I don’t think this is the case. Ammy’s cold star beads are actual projectiles, so they get reflected, but Chris’ shotgun blast is more like a flare effect. It’s like how in KoF you can’t reflect Ryo ko’oken because even though it has projectile qualities, it’s not an independent projectile.
Maybe the gong has an HP rating and depending on the damage of each projectile it eats it deteriorates or something.
I suspect that if gong was good enough to beat beams and/or hypers, then that would have been specifically shown in reveal footage.

Maybe it just missed him that time? Yun’s palm is a projectile Mahvel is full of random shit. Sometimes things can hit and sometimes they don’t
In previous games, it could reflect Ankihou (I’ve seen clips in combo video/exhibition type things where two Hsien-Ko’s would play tennis with a single Ankhou projectile, reflecting it back and forth at each other).
Agreed. It didn’t in DS and honestly I can’t think of any fighter where beams can be reflected.
I haven’t been able to find a case of a projectile destroying the gong percussion wave. It just seems to disappear when the duration is over. The gameplay video where she fights Arthur at the start is a good resource for that. The wave absorbs multiple projectiles without a noticeable change. The second gong of the match is out for a comparatively short time (more like VS-style duration) and there’s nothing on the screen that would have canceled it, so it looks dependent on strength for when it disappears (less startup for the short one or something I guess.)
no i mean her own projectiles, not mirror matches. i swore i saw her own gong reflect one of her own bombs.
As far as the Darkstalkers games go, the bomb can be bounced around simply by either player hitting it with anything. When it explodes, it’s capable of damaging both players, as well.
Yeah she threw out a bomg and she used her gong to bounce it INTO the opponent. If she can dash cancel out of pendulum swing…omg that could mind fuck city.
Although her dash is slower in this than in DS, with the ability to have a number of gongs up, assist, P.swing and cancel out of it, I think she has a lot of ability to open you up. Although truth be told that is a lot of work.
She doesn’t seem to be entirely rush down or keep away. Sort of mid range specialty actually.
Regarding Team Darkstalkers, Morrigan AAA, Felicia Rolling Buckler, and Hsien-Ko Gong(?)
This is looking good already.
I wouldn’t use gong over pendulum as an assist unless you specifically knew you were going up against a very projectile heavy team. I don’t think Morrigan and Felicia benefit as much from it as Hsien-ko does herself.
I think if you’re playing keepaway, rather then HK as just gong assist, I think we might see some people just use the better projectile assists, and have her on point so they can double gong, get one in the air, etc. Sit back with Doom rocks assist while you make a wall of two gongs, so your opponent will have to superjump to get over them, or tag out Golden armor Arthur and start double gong walling with a wave of fire at the same time.
I see Arthur/HK as working really great as well, because he can start on point, keepaway and build meter with his projectiles- while he’s on point, gong assist works great to shield him, and when they finally penetrate your projectiles, you DHC golden armor into HK’s wave of blades, which pushes your opponent back to the other side of the screen, ready for more keepaway. Of course, you need the requisite AAA to punish opponents trying to go over your projectiles- but actually, I was thinking, rather then a SRK assist w/ Ryu or Morg, you could run something like Doom’s rays, which work as an AAA, but they can also just be mixed into your projectile keepaway game. So if anyone wants to try it out, Hsien Ko-Gong/Arthur-Fire Bottle/Doom-Jazz Hands, might make a snazzy team.
One concern I have is whether her j.A is a crossup in this game. Don’t think I saw anyone try it in the videos.
If you cancel pendulum after you’re already past them you turn around, and backwards airdash probably turns you around, but it would be nice to have something good to crossup with after you’ve airdashed or gotten flying momentum from a pendulum cancel.
Crossups=you change the side you’re on
High-Low Mixups=you ambigiously attack either high or low, and your opponent has to guess which and block right
Pendulum and her airdash are good crossups. She can high-low pretty well probably, because she can airdash cancel on top of them, or pendulum cancel, with aerials then land and go for a crouching attack, or jump again for another high mixup.
I modified the original post to be a bit more clear.
In VS she could score a knockdown, use the pendulum, cancel it early, and fly over their body for a meaty crossup j.LK or land -> cr.LK, or just let the pendulum continue and do something else after.
I’m not really talking about methods to crossup, but normals with the right hitbox to do it, since she lost some normals in the transition.
Even though we don’t know if gong reflects beams, am I the only one with this picture in my head? Hsien Ko reflecting Sentinel’s beam and saying “get ur shit spit on bitch” in her tiny voice.
OMG BISHAMON CONFIRMED FOR DLC. o_O
Just youtube’d Bishamon, he has a cool sprite.
