As big as the street fighter community has gotten, it’s still a community of fans ran by fans.
Chris Hu is clearly a fan so what’s the problem? Not everyone has to sound like Marv Albert.

I wasn’t really going to get into the Chris Hu shit but…dude likes SF and is good at it and that’s all you really need to talk about SF. I remember the days when people just watched matches. Now there’s all this personality NFL shit. LOL. If you’re having a good time watching the matches who cares about how well some guy can speak English. People dont just watch matches anymore…
Just mute the stream when Chris Hu comes on if you dont like it. Problem solved. I play music during streams most of the time any ways. Who cares what video game John Madden has to say. Not like the peanut gallery in the stream chat helps either.
I turned on the stream chat for 10 minutes today for the first time in a while (during a major at least). I wish I could have those 10 minutes of my life back.
Is the stream archive for Shadowloo finals for SSF4 AE and MvC3 up?

On the topic of Chris Hu, I don’t think he is a bad commentator necassarily, but the reason people (mostly stream monsters) like him so much is because of his broken english. If you had some other regular Joe Schmoe say the exact same things Hu says, no one would find it nearly as entertaining. People don’t think he is funny because of his jokes, they think he is funny because his L’s are R’s and he throws in random consonants in some words. This is what the stream monsters want… the actual players who watch the matches are outnumbered by the random people who watch streams, talk about how all these good players suck because they dropped a combo, and maybe play 30 minutes of fighting games online per week. I use to think it was pretty funny, then I realized it was kind of fucked up because I was actually laughing at him and not with him.
But yea if the commentary is that big of an issue just mute the stream and turn on some tunes or something. I think if you are an adequate player in the game you are trying to spectate you should understand for the most part about what is going on. Hu does actually say some pretty informative stuff in SF4 though that I have learned things from.
You know RyRy is godlike when he gets to grand finals without being able to consistently do BnBs with 2/3s of his team.
Thanks a lot.
Everyone drops combos. MvC3 is a fast paced game that naturally with adrenaline going you are probably going to mess something up eventually, sometimes at a much greater rate. This is why I hate it when commentators say stupid shit about “finishing your plate” and acting like they have never dropped a combo in a clutch moment themselves.
I was watching his games all Saturday and Sunday because I had friends in his pool and I saw him land maybe one of his Magneto combos. He’s just so good it didn’t matter.
You expect more from the best players though. There were so many dropped combos, missed hit confirms and shitty decisions in that Top 8. It was not a very impressive tournament.
I get the impression that Ryry doesn’t actually know Zero’s combos either because he kept dropping them in the same spots constantly.
They are still human and will still drop stuff.
This may explain it… from his facebook…

RyRy is probably the most talented player on the East Coast.
He does extremely well in almost every game he touches, without being sposored or being a “pro gamer”. He got 9th in TvC at EVO last year, and top 8 in HDR. He beat Gamerbee in pools in SSFIV. He got DQ’d from Tekken b/c he was too busy playing Marvel, but that’s where he got his start. He’s got a day job as a programmer, and doesn’t actually get to play that much, considering what he can do.
I find it hilarious that Noel Brown has basically spent the last month traveling the U.S. playing this game at big tourneys every weekend, only to get blown up by a guy with a full time job and has mostly been playing black ops.
I find Chris Hu very comical and informative. That is why I like Sp00ky streams, it’s raw and uncut no holds barred when it comes to what is being said. You have your mixed commentators who can give you something funny but will also drop some knowledge like Yipes and Chris Hu; and on the other side of the stream world you have the informative commentators like James and Ultradavid.
It’s a pity Twisted Jago wasn’t there, he probably would have given Chris G a closer fight. Does anyone know what happened to him? I heard he was sick.
And uses a team that someone with 3 full time jobs could probably use competitively lol
ECT MvC play was honestly shockingly bad. Where was the Chris G that went head to head with Justin at CEO? Letting RyRy reset the bracket was shameful. RyRy himself was playing like junk compared to Winter Brawl. Taking 2nd place at ECT with that kind of play only goes to show how bad EC is at the game right now.
I dunno how much of a “closer fight” you want…
Ryry reset the brackets.
If the PS3 doesn’t slow down and ruin his “happy birthday” as zero in set 2 game 2, and he doesn’t drop the soap on that akuma combo in game 4… We have a new champion.
Chris has a very unorthodox style with some really strong gimmicks (ryu air throws and dog slow->tag) but you could see Ryry adapting as the set went on.
Zero happy birthday would have dropped anyways.
Ryry needs to get off the damned Black Cops. LOL.
The Noel Brown vs. Ryry situation basically just explains that no matter how much you practice you still just have to have a natural talent and ingenuity for fighting games to have that edge to place consistently. Other people if they play one game long enough can be a great player in that specific game but some people just have a natural talent for games where they dont have to play a game much to already have you beat mentally. That’s why Ryry who drops bnb’s is still a beast and a Ryry that doesn’t drops combos is going to be just another level on top of that. Hopefully Ryry keeps playing Black Ops so everyone else has a chance. I’m not sure I wanna know what that guy is gonna be like when he learns the TOD’s and doesn’t drop the standard bnb’s. Definitely would love to get some games in with him to practice up.
In general though people really need to step up the combo game. The Japanese are going to be blowing us up even harder when they show that when you spend a long enough time practicing you dont drop long bnb’s every other attempt at high level play. They regularly got down one and 2 frame FRC combos in Guilty Gear where you had to know different bnb’s for like every other character you fought against and got those out regularly. We’re definitely going to be on the losing end of things if we have to run Wolverine plus XF1 to stay in the firefight vs. guys who will be not dropping stuff with high tiers that require execution like Zero/Dante etc. Zero can kill Wesker with one meter now and you know damn well they’re going to make sure they can do that everytime they hit Wesker.
The game gives you the option to pick characters where you can have the execution of a baby with winter mittens on to get around. On the other hand if you put the work in with characters like Dante and Zero you will get the pay off and wont drop the combo half way in every other time you go for it.
