MvC3: Strong teammates to pair with Akuma

Damaging, really?

Going into this I assumed the damage was shitty (after seeing it on Tron) because of the fast invincible grabbing utility. Are damage figures out for something like this then? high relative base damage would definately make sense given it lacks comboability.

Tron is on the higher end of the health totals, so, that might be why it appear not to do much. Demon is 465,000 going by the wiki, and, Tron’s health is well into the millions. 1,200,000 tie her with Hagger/Hulk for the third highest in the game.

akuma’s demon flip assist hits as an overhead…there are some nasty tricks to be done with sentinel’s L rocket punch (which hits low) or with wesker’s gunshot assist (which also hits low)

nvm, sent’s assist doesn’t hit low, hehe

That overhead assist will be good for my team.

Any figure yet for X Factored SGS?

Akuma damage increases for x factor: 135% 170% 205%

So with the “normal” raging demon doing 465k the results (rounded down) should be:

lvl 1 = 627k

lvl 2 = 790.5k

lvl 3 = 953k

This was done using the data on the MvC3 brady games guide. Will test as soon as i get home but it should be correct.

Level 3 x factor akuma is nuts…yesterday i was doing really SIMPLE combos like c.L c.M c.H > h tatsu > S > j.M j.H j.S > OTG beam super for 1.35 milion damage lol

Yikes!

I’ve been fiddling with Dante/Akuma/Sentinel for a bit now, so I figure I should throw some stuff in here.

I’m liking akuma, but to be real, I don’t see him being THAT great a character once the game is learned more, especially if you rushdown with him only. But I figure I should throw in my thoughts. If someone REALLY discovers how to be godlike with him, that is awesome!!! Just giving my day 1 thoughts (and my few days before).

His normals are indeed pretty bad, they lack range, and his low heavy is incredibly slow and punishable (yet it’s his only good range normal). Combined with his low health, straight up rushdown is overall not that effective with akuma (from what ive seen).

However, he has LOTS midrange options to safely go in with. His air fireball is really fast and recovers fast, and when combined with jam session or sentinel drones, you can really really really pin people, and the chip it does is actually pretty substantial after a few. This makes his midscreen game actually fairly strong. And if anyone tries to do anything crazy to knock him outta his air fireball chain, you can cancel into super. Once you get the situation set up, Akuma can go in pretty safely with drones at his back, so he doesn’t have to risk dying.

So I definitely think sent’s drones are a GREAT assist for akuma. Jam session is also solid (but i tend to start dante, so i dont get to use akuma with dante assist much)

His dive kicks are somewhat lacking though, as I think their angle is way too steep and their hitboxes aren’t very large for this kind of game (where there is so much space to work). They also kinda push back far so sometimes your follow up combo will whiff.

One of my favorite ways to enter is with sentinel on assist coming out, and then air tatsu and 50/50 the opponent (yeah… it’s a bit street fighter 4ish, but it works okay… for now). He’s safe after it’s blocked, and if it hits, he can combo afterwards, and he gets lots of cool angled movement when doing the air tatsu. And it spins so fast you don’t have to time it all really, as it will always hit the opponent (into block or hitstun).

I’ve been using Amaterasu/Sentinel with him. Sent’s assist is great for keep-away, while Amaterasu’s is great when you want to get in.

Can you guys test for any SGS ticks and quirky catches and stuff?

Sentinel seems like a pretty good match for Akuma (although let’s be serious here, Sentinel works with almost everyone extremely well). If I didn’t hate that character so much I’d probably use him!

honestly, with 3 bars in this game you can do SO MUCH DAMAGE, no one’s gonna use raging demon unless it’s for full screen punishes.

Was just thinking of the game long-term, Akuma’s basic gameplay doesn’t look promising in potential for when people start figuring out the crazy stuff with their own characters; so I’m not sure where most of his juice will come from if it’s not exploiting cheap Demons in some way. I mean SGS got some interesting new properties, the rest of his game just looks quite bare bones.

He can pressure decently with his fast normals when he gets in and isn’t pushed blocked out, he has decent combo damage and opportunities, air fireballs with cover from an assist help him get in… but is there anything else to look forward too?

my order is

akuma
deadpool
ryu

i try to save meter for level 3 xfactor so i can spam shinku hadoukens lol. but i pretty much got bnbs down and its been working out pretty well.

If you think Sentinel is slow moving, you’re not doing it right.

Sometimes all you need is something basic. List the number of characters who can protect their own advance with a projectile (as in combo into it). It’s a very short list, because it’s a very powerful ability to have.

I am liking X-23 with her low assist. You can actually set up an unblockable with overhead chop and that assist and if it lands you can go straight into a combo.

After watching the Wednesday Nights Fights Tournament, I say that Wolverine and Akuma are a match made in heaven. hopefully they post up the vids so those who missed out can see it.

I wasn’t really interested in Akuma until I saw some matches with him. He is such a beast! Him and Sentinel Drones or Doom Rocks are great. Also, a low assist works wonders with him.

I’ve been using Akuma/Sentinel/Iron Man a bit, but I just can’t quite get a perfect fit for Iron Man’s slot. I need a point character to start the fight with, get some damage in, build some meter, and take some hits. I feel like Akuma and Sentinel can almost do so much damage on their own that the first character is almost expendable to try and get some early damage done, because honestly what it seems to come down to in most matches I’ve played is Sentinel vs. Sentinel at the end playing rock em’ sock em’ robots in X-factor. Basically whoever has more meter saved up and more of a lifegain will probably come out on top.

Soooo what characters have some good spammable beams, rushdown capabilities, good health, etc. all the while having a decent assist and nice hyper? I’m weighing Iron Man and Wesker a lot, though I can’t get the hang of Wesker to really play him efficiently. I didn’t see JWong’s Akuma/Wolverine combo but I hear they might make a good team, though I’m a little hesitant to pick up a character with tough times getting up close. Arthur would be good if he had better health, and I’m thinking I need more of a starter point character so he’s not the optimal choice I don’t think. Dr. Doom seems like he has good assists but it unwieldy and a bit awkward to play for me. I’m going to try Amaterasu and Captain America next, though Ammy looks like she has a high learning curve.
