I actually, don’t use the air dashing alot, I think IM is best in the normal jump range. Abuse that jB (a shit ton of active frames), and jH (lol I hit you from half screen, now give me my 770k).
read my description on Youtube did you… and I was trying to be polite and subtle.
Well, that tears it. Iron Man looks amazing and I’m devoting my lab time to him exclusively starting now, regardless of how much of that may or may not change in Ult. Fantastic stuff.
great video. i learned about unibeam mixup on incoming characters. THATS nice. everything else i had knowledge of… but some of it (alot?) i was reminded of.
nice vid VE.
one thing though, how are you guys playing IM? as a keepaway/midscreener or as an offensive “powerhouse” im still trying to find my own niche with him as i havent really landed on a playstyle that just works for me… except for funnily enough keepaway with arthur daggers and ground unibeam, which is so noob as far as execution, but surprisingly effective: daggers plus L unibeam then H unibeam combos for 220 k or so or does about 50 k in chip… pretty good for fullscreen pokage.
other than that my IM is hella random in its effectiveness.
Great video FV, any thoughts on how much of it will translate into UMVC3? Obviously the double jump combos are out, but he’ll probably have new stuff in their place. If anything the fly mode starter on combos (the important part) may be easier if it’s faster, right?
Good vid. Really shows the world that IM is more about abusing his gdlike air reach and not just mindlessly tri-dashing. I think there coulda been a little more on Iron man’s flight mode. Flying I think really compliments IM’s neutral game by allows him to convert big damage off of his big air reach, even against jumpers. All you really need to do is use the same tech you use for the auto-pilot combos, but apply it into a neutral position. Just fly, j.M>any variation of j.H>fly cancel>ADDF or ADF (depending what j.H you did), then improvise. You can also make your jump normals safe by just fly cancelling in emergencies.
The ground fly combo still works (I’ve seen it) in Ultimate so, minus the double jump part, it should still work. The focus of the video wasn’t really combo’s though. Most of the technology should still work.
You’ve opened a new door in my mind with playing IM in regard to space control. I have NO IDEA why I didn’t think of something so easy to implement instead of taking the air moves into account only after jumping.
I’m going to start adding ground fly normals into my training to see what I can come up with for space control. I’ve been spending a lot more time playing IM lately on point (instead of my usual anchor spot on my Cap team) so that I can work on his zoning/space control ability (super strong once you get used to it) instead of trying to rush so much. I’m looking to get used to the newer version of himself, prior to actually getting to use that version…anything extra I can just add in later.
Since I play a lot online, I had grown acustomed to not using his ground fly for combos (afraid of lag too much for no reason), so other than doing double/triple overheads I stopped thinking about ground fly at all…it was almost as though in my mind ground fly was just a command overhead move like a f.H for Spencer lol.
Thanks, now I gotta get to work on setting myself right.
Oh, and Ve…I’ve looked through your vids for a while now…do happen to record any of your match videos. I don’t care if it’s casuals, testing, tourney, whatever you’ve got I would love to study it.
I love watching match video to try to disect what’s going through the fighters heads, and why…as you play 2 of my super high up favs (esp Jill, but lately advanced point IM who’s been in more than 80% of my fights lol).
I’ve thought about it, but there are two problems.
Online is ass, to the point where I straight up can’t play…
To record I have to take my stuff off HD (I only have an SD recorder), which creates input lag. This isn’t so bad when I’m making a vid because I can just do several takes, but playin an actual match in that is pretty bleh…
Also, I don’t think I’m that great at marvel. I’ve got all my training mode stuff down pat, but I can’t really get any good experience with high level players. I’ve got plenty on my friends list, but again… online…
I do upload BB and SF3 (I’ve got some sets saved on my hard drive). I tend to play very methodically, I calculate what the best strat is and perfect it, as opposed to some players who are more free. Not that one way is better then the other, but I don’t really “go nuts” even if I’m hitting a shit ton of buttons.
The big thing that people hate about my IM is my OS stuff. Always OS’s throws in a few ways (some were in the vid) it really gets people to stop holding up back. Also, Smart Bombs, that move is stupidly good and IM players should use it more.
