Do you know how many hours it takes someone to put together a good 3D model? All the geometry, weight mapping, normal mapping (which is essentially done by creating a super-detailed 3D model with millions of polygons), making sure the texture fits nicely (Which also has to be drawn). Then there’s the animating. All of this is done by hand. The good thing is, this can be done by a team of people in tandem.

You disrespect 3D artists everywhere. -_-

all i care about is that the backgrounds actually deal with the involved characters (rather than fucked up funhouse backgrounds), no horrible jazz soundtrack, and hopefully they tweak the assist system so the game is less about mashing assist every 5 seconds.

Seriously. If you somehow appreciate something from Japanese origin you are suddenly labeled as a “Japanophille” And the ironic thing is those individuals with this obvious dislike of things of Japanese origin are discussing about a game from a Japanese developer.

Might as well stop playing any fighting game made by Capcom, SNK, Arcsys, and Namco which is like almost every good fighting game.

SF4 is Capcom’s first real try at a 3D Street Fighter game. Hell yeah they’re going to have troubles in terms of translating things over. Like you said yourself, it’s not even SF5 and they’re already making the models and animations look a lot better as they move into SSF4 (Hakan looks great). By the time SF5 rolls in, which I hope is in 6+ years, 3D animation will have easily advanced to the point of 3S sprite animation and further still. After all, there’s only so much you can do with flat pixels.

In my opinion this isn’t an issue of style, but an issue of having trouble working with different styles. Trying to get 3D models to feel like 2D models is probably extremely difficult, especially with the backlog of sprite-exclusive techniques they utilised over the years. Give them a chance to develop their work with 3D modelling and animation instead of just ruling out 3D models as inferior outright, because it’s not fair.
