No, I understand you, my point was that if Marvel 2 and 3 are close enough in terms of gameplay that they can be debated over the same way ST and HDR are, then I think we’ll have a great game. Of course there will always be hardcore Marvel 2 supporters who won’t migrate to the new game just because it’s not the same game they love, but hopefully 3 turns out to be good enough to get key people on board and loving it. I think it’s safe to say if we get like Mixup, Demon Hyo, Shoultzula, etc all playing MvC3 and loving it, then we’ll have a great game.
I just hope it’s not like SFIV where a lot of people play it just because it’s new and competiton is everywhere and not because they genuinely like the game =/
Guy at ForceDisconnect says he has it on “very good authority from numerous sources” that MvC3 is getting announced soon and will have a graphics engine very similar to SFIV. (2nd comment)
Edit: BTW, the title screen in the link above is an old mock-up if anyone didn’t know. Just gettin’ that out there right now.
Yeah, but here’s the first thing - companies will call a game so-and-so purely for brand recognition or whatever reason to make sales stronger or entice people than the game on its own merits might normally allow. For example, Samurai Shodown Sen. We all know its no SS, and its not even good on its own. But it got a little attention because the characters were there and it used the namebrand. I doubt SFIV would have sold well if it didn’t have the SF namebrand.
Second thing is that people probably wouldn’t care even if the name was different. We have TvC for example, its not claiming to continuing Marvel and it isn’t; its a different game. But guess what? People hate it primarily because its “not marvel”. No three person teams?? Fuck that. No assist abuse?? Fuck that. More balanced roster?? Fuck that shit! 3D graphics?? End of the world. I mean, I hate the first TvC too; won’t go into the list here but because of the problems the system and characters had, not because it wasn’t Marvel. If I let that hold my thinking for the UAS version I would have missed out on a damn fun game. They’re different games, and people should accept that; I like them both for what they are.
Yes but Unreal Engine is an actual Program engine that companies use to makes games. I doubt Capcom made a Street Fighter engine to make just fighters. duh!
Oddly enough, I think SF4’s art style fits the Vs series better. SF4 should have used a less cartoony style, perhaps something like TvC or Project Justice models (increased detail, of course).
I think capcom should think outside the box if we getting 2.5D models , do something different like sf4 but with mvc3. Something no-one has ever seen b4.
I still think having Marvel hand drawing the characters would have sold the game some copies right there.
even though i don’t really care about mvc, it would be a sin for it to look like sf4. no game deserves that. arms should be firmly attached to bodies, women should look like women, character models shouldn’t look like separate pieces lumped together like a GI Joe toy, etc…
