You’re being too literal. A teleport as far as a fighting game is concerned is a command movement that can pass through an opponent. We’re not talking about a X-Men comic or an anime. Jeeze.

English majors should be quite aware of interpretations of words and the literal and non-literal definitions.

:stuck_out_tongue:

IT’S A METAPHOR MAYNE. (<-- I am just trolling now.)

Wat.

Like I said, it’s cool. The Sociology minor in me is able to adjust my interpretations to fit this social context.

I would rather have Zero’s buster over Dante’s Hammer. Its probobly the best move in the game.

How do they counter her? I know this is “theory fighter general” but come on guys.

They have all the tools they need to combat her, and together they have unblockable setups on incoming Phoenixes. Snap in a Phoenix with Viper, call Dante, Focus Attack, Phoenix is done.

There is a big difference between being able to deal with Jean (nobody really does) and having a snap in setup for her. Sure Dante and Viper have great snap ins for her but they still lose to her 1v1.

Wolverine has some hard counters and ways to totally shut him down, as well as bad matchups.Phoenix has none of those and only requires a decent point, some execution for that guy and an invincible assist to be able to run over top players. I actually feel wolverine got nerfed too much. All he needed removed was the invincible berserker slash. Meanwhile, Dante and Viper and Zero got buffs, lmao.

Also let’s not assume tiers before the game is out. It’d be pretty hard to make a character with teleports and 3 frame cr.ls C tier.

That’s not inescapable, in fact Pheonix has some of the best tools in the game for getting out.

That’s 4 frame c.L and that’s a character with completely nerfed salty balls, no more Deathwish open gambits because of no invince on super and those 2 things pretty much set up everything else about the character. She was a powerful character but depended on those 2 things specifically to unlock her power. Now that those are nerfed to shit she isn’t doing much anymore with that small health pool. I see regular phoenix getting trounced on by most of the cast and just kinda throwing herself out there if she has 5 bars to get popped like a virgin.

That got nerfed. Vanilla Phoenix can’t get out of X-23 + Jam Session unless the jam session is timed poorly. She can technically get out…but if she does try to X-23 can just block the super and punish the ultra laggy recovery and kill her when she no longer has 5. The only characters that can safely get out with little to no reprocussion is Sentinel spending meter on hard drive or Morrigan spending 3 meters on Darkness Illusion (only other air OK invincible supers).

??? How??

Also, we were talking about the jam session snap focus trap with Viper. Its very powerful, but not unstoppable.

Well yeah the X-23 thing is just something I threw in to compare…but I know for sure Phoenix has to hope the super hits 23 and if 23 blocks the super, she dies any way.

From what I’ve heard Phoenix’s bird super no longer has invincibility. It’s not in the official notes but I remember someone posting and saying they discovered it through gameplay. Realistically it may just be a drastic nerf to the invincibility frames but that’s what was said.

The only tool that combats Dark Phoenix that I know of, is Amaterasu for the THC to get 4 way mixups, and an extension of that involving 3 characters to set up an unblockable, and the unblockable grab setup when she turns dark

All the rest is just hoping to get lucky, aka hope your mix up succeeds, your random beam/full screen level 3 hits, the phoenix player fucks up, or your team can runaway.

That’s the whole point…Dark Phoenix is not a character you’re supposed to matchup or combat. She’s a win button and a consequence for the opponent for letting the team build 5 meters. The matchup is you need to get lucky…that’s the point of the character. It’s stupid but that’s what Capcom wants her to be.

Which is why things are going to be really interesting when Ultimate comes out cuz I see regular Phoenix getting blown up left and right by snaps with all the nerfs.

Going to pairings for a minute, this last weekend shows why Viper/Dante is a better pairing than Viper/Ammy. From what I can tell, its WAY easier to escape the ammy versoin of the viper unblockable than the dante one, well presuming you have the basic tools to avoid it at all :stuck_out_tongue:

In fact, the more I think of it, the more it becomes clear to me that Ammy, while extremely excellent at many things, is essentially a not quite as good Dante with a few special tricks.

Good, that should never have had invul.

MODOK bottom tier is lolz.

MODOK is bottom tier because he looks like something you put your bottom on in a Japanese bathroom.

I dunno. They’re different characters with different tools. Dante is better for the unblockable for sure, but Ammy brings other stuff to the table. Slow+hard tag instant overhead comes to mind.

Ammy also blows up haggar teams for FREE.

Trying to make your main look bad when he is damn near a demigod doesn’t work.

Cut it out.
