There’s already a minimum of one frame of lag (default is three!) built into the networking, plus any other problems. I don’t know what connection speed you were playing at, but it goes from bad to goddawful real quick. Usually <90ms ping is mostly playable.
It’s usually better to select opponents by ping rather than skill.
