If he would have said anything about lag or malfunctioning hardware that would have been totally acceptable. Those are legitimate excuses, I complain about lag when it’s really bad and try to avoid those players. If lag was really a factor I seriously doubt he would have called me out on a FT15 for $2,000. But instead he felt the need to tell a complete stranger on XBL all about his personal problems. Everyone has problems. I’ll admit it, my life was 10x better in 2003, but I’m not going to talk about my woes to random strangers online. That’s what friends and family members are for, and if you’re unfortunate enough to lack those things in your life then there are plenty of other, more appropriate places to talk bout that stuff online. If someone acts like a salty asshat to me then tells me their personal problems, you’re damn right that ammunition is going to get fired right back at them. We all have responsibility and bills to pay, that’s just how life is. We would all be better at MVC2 if we had more time to play. Like IronG. said, “leave that shit at the door.”
As I said before, I think Maverick is a good player and I enjoyed our matches we had, but then he started in with the crying and name calling and there is just no need for that. He was even talking shit behind my back 3 months after the last time we played, so I confronted him about it. I treat every new player the same that I come across, with respect and a friendly attitude. I wish it could stay like that but you meet all types online, so if you’re going to be a dick to me then that’s what you’ll get in return. Win or lose, I’ll be cool with you, I just ask that you treat me with the same respect.
Online Marvel being a measuring stick for skill is a great topic of discussion! I look at it like this, online is pretty much all we have anymore…sad but true. Marvel should have been 6-feet-deep a few years ago but the re-release on XBL/PSN is barley keeping it on life support. Not a lot of people are lucky enough to still have other local players or arcades in their area, so it’s online or nothing these days. No major tournaments have MVC2 anymore, they couldn’t even hold that shit together at Season’s Beatings, and that used to be THE place for MVC2. Yes it’s hard to take online serious because there are so many more variables, but online is my only option so I’ll take what I can get. Which I’m sure is the case for many of you on here. The closest MVC2 players that I know of live about 8 hours away.
As far as the ranking system goes, I’m sure all the past EVO winners would be at the top of the list if they actually played MVC2 online and spent as much time in ranked as RegencyRob, Spidermancanrun, or whoever is at the top of the list right now. Wong, Sanford, Yipes, Schmidt, etc. do not play online so their names aren’t going to pop-up in the rankings. Everyone knows that ranked is BS anyway, too many RQ and shit like that. But the people at the top of the list (that aren’t hacked) are there because they are good, spend a lot of time in ranked, and can handle their business.
