MvC1: playing to win

Kalis: Red venom is acessable in the arcade. And your strider strategies only work against scrubs and not top level mvc1 players. And Jin and Zangief are not #2 and 3.

Jin is not good. Seriously - I play with someone who picked Jin all the time, and was pretty good with him. You can block high on Jin and be safe since his low short is so damn slow it can be blocked on reaction. He’s only a terror against people who are over-aggressive or don’t know that jab roll kills him.

As for tiering, there’s a difference between your best characters and the proven best characters. It’s already a proven point that the top 5 are Strider/Red Venom/Wolverine/War Machine/Gold War Machine. This will not change, because they are the characters with the most overpowering capabilities.

All of Strider’s special moves are too slow to be useful on their own. His only real good moves are jumping fierce, low fierce and stand/crouch forward.

And BH infinite: SJ.roundhouse, airdash back roundhouse, repeat. The infinite sucks, don’t use it.

You cannot be best in your area when you didn’t even know that red venom was accesible in arcade. When playing with good players red venom would frequently be used and you have obviously never suffered the rape that red venom brings which I received throughout most of my time at high school
Your tiering is incorrect no matter how much you fuss about it zangief while having some useful things I guess shrug is most definitely not top tier nor is Jin.

Hey

Hey. I never said I sit there and use artillery with Strider all day Box.
Call me a scrub in MvC2. If you call me a scrub at MvC1 I have to take offense.

And maybe you (the other guy)can’t beat Red Venom cause you don’t know how, don’t blame me. You prolly have it in your head(subconciously) that he is gonna beat before the round starts.
I have to admit though, I have not played against him much.
He is just not accessible at any arcade I have ever been at.

Well I’m glad I’m the other guy in this debate because I don’t really see the sense in getting into it when you don’t have an arcade near you with red venom accessible  . Red venom may be my personal arch-nemisis, but it is quite easy to receive a heavy ass kicking from high no matter who you are. I’d love to go to an arcade where gold war machine, shadow lady, and red venom are not accessible =D.

edit: I spelled accessible wrong cause my english is getting worse lol

Red Venom is overpowering for several reasons:

  • basic reasons - his c.fierce is too fast, his tick throws are difficult to beat and his j.fierce has too much priority
  • his infinite can be started in a variety of ways. If you jump, you get guardbroken into infinite, or else you get hit into infinite. If you’re near the corner, you get air comboed into infinite. If you’re playing someone good, midscreen air combo leads to infinite too.
  • again, he’s really fucking fast and difficult to push off of you.

To fight Red Venom adequately, you need Psylocke assist and some amount of luck.

I know morrigan/lillith suck, but they’re fun when you’re not playing “to win.” Also, I don’t do infinites; I do 1 rep but don’t repeat… not because they’re cheap but because they ruin all opportunities for fun. I like resets.

Why lillith > morrigan? It’s cuz she cuter, huh.

What should War Machine do against an orb-whore strider?
What should wolverine do in the same circumstance? I sometimes go for fatal claw x on reaction to the orbs super, but this at best trades hits and sometimes leads to orbs hitting, launch+combo on wolverine, which sucks.

What should WM/WOLV do during a duo? If the tag hits? If it’s blocked? I normally go for the throw with wolverine into the proton cannon, but other times I just chip between BBX and WDest.

Thanks Dasrik and Arturo.

Is RV on a Time Release system? Are there multiple versions of MvC 'cade? Or is kalis just hopelessly confused…

You ‘do’ know the code to access RV, don’t you, kalis? xD

anyone know what to do against chun?

her rush down + lag is really hard to get away from since i can’t really jump away and it’s kinda hard to know when to block low since sometimes she gets more hits out of her hk and sometimes she doesn’t.

I use Strider and Wolverine mainly.

just block, pushblock, then sj away

Is this guy for real??

Jumpback fierce with Strider >>>> Chunli

can someone explain to me please the wolv infinite?

looks like s.short, s.strong dash then repeat

is there some glitch???

cancel s.strong with down, then dash

It seemed Dasrik never explained why Lilith is superior to Morrigan in Marvel vs. Capcom 1. I will put it in terms than an idiot can understand.

Duo. Bats. Orbs. Win. Rinse. Repeat.
