I hope they really follow the DLC train though for characters, no reason they shouldn’t, unless the roster is actually huge (like, 40+ characters)

2v2 is essentially already a tribute to the old “classic” vs games as the first 3 were 2v2. Marvel 2 was 3v3 but didn’t have a sequel for 10 years so people just kinda assimilated 3v3 as MAHVEL. If you count Xmen COTA and Marvel Super Heroes it technically started as 1v1.
I’m sure they also did it as this is a more “casual” focused game and I’m sure casual players had trouble learning 3 characters and and managing all of the assists and options that come with 3v3. 2v2 makes it so there isn’t as much card deck style meta for having a team. You can pick 2 characters and if they aren’t bad you got a team.

My guess is the Gem is some type of match buff to each character since the devs called it an augmentation. My guess is it alters the way specials and assist work?
I wouldn’t mind 2v2, but somehow I doubt that’s gonna be the format
