MVC Infinite Lounge: DLC Characters and Costumes launch Dec 5th

They had 10 years to MAKE him a top tier and didn’t. At what point does ‘potential’ turn into ‘not’?

IIRC, previous games also had mostly Marvel characters as top tiers. Only Capcom characters in MvC1’s top tiers were Chun and Strider, and they were still below the highest tier. Chun was also the only SF character in XvSF’s top tier.

You say this as if Magneto and Doom were not major players in MvC3.
Or as if Hulk/Sentinel (and Wolvie/Storm) didn’t win an EVO.

To be fair, the focus required to maintain the broken status of a character like that plays a factor when looking at tournament results. Hell, look at Zero. He’s not even close to a “high execution character” imo but that was the reasoning behind him not dominating tournaments for the first half of MVC3’s life( since compared to the Phoenix strategy everything else was too hard…). If there’s an easier way to achieve the win then no matter how much more efficient the “theory” way is people will ignore it. I’m sure all the theory talk with Viper could have turned into something too but Morridoom and Zero was easier to maintain so nope.

Someone beat you to this point. Still I don’t consider Doom anything more than a top tier assist.
Uhm if you’re argueing that HULK or Sentinel are top tier then wel… LOL.

People like to think that wins effect a characters potential to break a game if mastered and be considered top tier. The main factors have nothing with the players ability, but the opportunity to apply that broken shit. Now I’m no expert on getting that first hit with Dhalsim, but lets say technically Spencer in MVC3 could timer scam every game without rules against it. I still wouldn’t call him top tier without the ability to get that first hit before dying.

I don’t think so. It’s series tradition to have odd characters like Spiral, Omega Red, Shuma, etc…

I’m guessing atleast Howard the Duck & Groot for Marvel.

Also UMvC3 was pretty balanced between Marvel & Capcom. I don’t think one side was better than the other.

I feel the Capcom roster has better point characters and all round characters than the Marvel side.

How do you factor characters who need assists behind them, like Morrigan? Are you comparing each character in a vacuum 1v1? Or each with a full team backing him/her/it?

Seeing the recent announcements for Injustice 2 makes me even more excited to see what’s in store for Infinite down the line.

Pretty salty to see Infinite isn’t going to be at the Taipei Game Show.

I don’t think Groot would be all that odd, he was one of the most popular characters from GotG.

He’d be odd/different visually & gameplay wise. I don’t think Capcom really cares about popularity, they just want unique characters.

Where’d this info come from?

But MODOK was even more “odd” compared to these guys.

Part of those characters charm is most people didn’t know who they were. A lot of guys here had a WTF reaction to MODOK. Even more so with Rocket Raccoon. That’s lost with Groot as the mainstream audience knows who he is.

Lets be honest. UMvC3 has the most oddball movesets. Sure Amingo is a living cactus that summons plants, but he was still pretty straightforward with use button to do damage type stuff. It was just normal movesets with weird presentation. No hooks were needed.

The UMvC3 stuff though? There’s probably more characters with a hook in this game than the others combined. Phoenix Wright getting evidence. MODOK flight and cubes. Frank’s photography. Viper’s EX moves. Phoenix’s second health bar. And that’s just core gameplay. Individual moves across the roster and small touches abound. Wesker glasses. Chris shooting his grenades. Strange’s various spell interactions. Deadpool’s teleport misfire. Nova’s red life use. Arthur’s armor. VJ’s bombs. Ammy weapon. stances. Spencer’s Armor Piercer

Honestly, I’m surprised Cap still got his shield back and the shield retrieval mechanic didn’t return. Everyone feels that much different from each other and it feels like you’re playing minigames with half the characters sometimes.

And if any game is one to do it, MAHVEL is a good choice.

So CES came and went and no news for Mahvel

There’s Taipei Game Show starting tomorrow
There’s the EVO reveal show next week
There’s PAX at the end of January
There’s GDC at the end of February

^ any chances we might be getting reveals or info drops for MVCI at any of these events?

It would kind of suck if we had to wait until E3

No. We’re never getting new info for this game ever again. Not even when the game releases. It’s just those six characters and one stage with no health bars.

funny

Yes, and I suspect they’re going to double down on that approach this time around. We’ve already noticed Morrigan has a status effect and X has different armor so far. The loss of assists means each character’s kit must be that much crazier to match the level of chaos we’re used to.

I want Storm’s original typhoon back.
