Even though I know it wonât happen, itâs cool to imagine how games like MVC Infinite would exist as an Arcade release.
I know SFV and KOF XIV are getting Arcade versions, but itâs more important given the demographic theyâre looking to appeal to. Since the US scene has no real Arcade scene anymore, Marvel being console only isnât an issue. I still miss the atmosphere, though.
Interesting idea, but that goes more into fundamentals, which is better for a general tutorial than character-specific trials. Defense and positioning are very much matchup based too, which makes clear tutorials that much harder. For example, take getting around projectiles in SFV:
-The obvious solution is to jump over them, but you have characters with odd angles/speeds that make jumping a really bad counter
-Whiff punishing doesnât work comparably with all characters (i.e. Chun cr.MK vs FANGâs coward kick)
-Not all characters have the same invincible/armored/mobility options, so exploiting move properties doesnât transfer between characters
SFV to its credit tries to cover this with demonstrations, but there is a lot of nuance that can only be understood through playing.
Or you could include combo trials that give you a general idea of how the devs envision the character playing, and have a separate mode for defense, mechanics, getting by zoning, etcâŚkind of like GG (rather, exactly like GG)
The arcade version of SFV is technically a custom PC so it probably opens up a window for an arcade Marvel. Itâs just modified to run like an arcade cab.
If they can do that for V, donât see why they canât do it for Marvel other than just blatantly figuring there isnât a market for Marvel in the arcades there. Marvel will certainly be getting a worldwide release on consoles. The top Japanese players of Marvel 3 are already prominent anime game players who said they would drive for hours to play each other casually and in tournaments. Giving them a cab would allow their local scenes to be stronger and not have to drive to each other so often for practice.
Oh. Thatâs a really good point. I didnât think of that. I keep forgetting this is getting a PC release.
I remember when @The_Shakunetsu posted a modified PC version of Street Fighter X Tekken that was designated for the Arcade. Had the Insert Coins stuff and all. It took you straight to the character select screen and avoided the console menu screen when you pressed start. Makes me wonder if that game wouldâve been better received in Japan had they actually released an Arcade version.
Momochi, Nemo, MameSpider, Abegen, Infiltration, and quite a few international players seem to be hyped about Infinite. Momochi said he came into Ultimate late, so he never had a chance to really get into it like he wanted. Infiltrationâs another who said heâs always enjoyed the game, but his scene in Korea didnât play play it. Now that the MCU is much bigger with fans overseas, many of them will be willing to give the game a chance.
I like the idea of everyone jumping into the game when itâs fresh. The competition will be amazing.
Thereâs also this:
So Disney and Marvel are definitely looking to give this game a strong push. Iâm excited.
Yeah the game seems like itâs on the way to getting the best of both worlds that SFV tried but failed at. Focus the game on casuals as your first objective so you make money and the gameâs modes are plenty and function well, but make sure thereâs also a big push for eSports so the game stays in peopleâs eyes outside of just purchasing and playing the game. ESPN makes sure dude watching Sports Center or a boxing match can suddenly see whatâs going on with MegaMan fighting Ryu.
