This doesn’t really apply to Captain Marvel. Mar-Vell (Male Captain Marvel) has been dead forever. When I still collected comics, we are talking the 90s , Captain Marvel was a black woman.
The Original Captain Marvel was a dude named Mar Vell, he met Carol decades ago in the comics and when she got her powers she went by Ms. Marvel. Recently, she went by Captain Marvel to honour him, and her Ms. Marvel title was taken up by Kamala Khan, a huge fangirl of Carol’s from Jersey. More info here.
Well not literally (thankfully), it’s more of an overloaded legacy title fest. Character titles are being passed down and shared, so you’re having multiple people using identities at the same time.
CvS2 grooves had roll/parry/dodge/JD as their passive and used their supers for activations. Looking at the trailer, I think Ryu’s wall bound and Captain Marvel’s teleport are actually products of their gems, and may not be locked behind the gem activation.
“Captain Marvel” is a name that’s been used by multiple people in the comics. Most of them have been men but it’s also been used by at least two women, including the one we see in MvCI, Carol Danvers. And yes, she did used to be Ms. Marvel (among other names).
As far as i remember, the original Captain Marvel Mar-Vell, as well as the former Captain Marvel turned Photon Genis-Vell are both death in Avengers vs. X-Men, and Thunderbolts events.
Only one former Captain Marvel, who now under alias Protector, Noh Varr is the only known surviving male Captain Marvel.
Honestly, some of the new legacy books that they’ve introduced have been some of their best books in some time. The new Ms. Marvel has been one of the best sellers in digital. The new Wolverine book with X-23 as Wolverine is arguably their best X-Book at the moment, and one of the better new books in All-New, All-Different Marvel. Hawkeye vol. 4 which starred both the original Hawkeye (Clint), and the second, female Hawkeye (Kate Bishop) was one of their best books during its run.
I hope this game releases late 2017. Releasing it early just isn’t worth it, especially after the disaster the SFV launch was.
We’ve been given a second chance at getting the casual crowd into fighting games. Marvel will be the ultimate casual magnet, not to mention these kids love flashy fighting games, if they play their cards right this game will easily out sell SFV. (Just based off MvC3 and Ultimate sales)They’ll also have ez holiday sales to fall back on too. Just imagine how bad ass UMvC3 would of been if they actually kept updating it. Maybe if the scene stands behind this game (which shouldn’t be hard, cause everyone here loves Capcom dick anyways) casuals will get into it, get into the scene, then eventually gravitate toward playing SFV too.
Besides, they even made UMvC3 on next gen consoles and PC (Kreygasm) to tie us over, surely you can survive the wait.
I don’t know who he is, but I’m glad I’m not the only one who has this concern. Also, in that video I posted someone else said they thought the game looked like Injustice, so I’m glad I’m not the only one seeing that. Based on the response I got here I thought maybe I was crazy or something…
I’m really hoping that this game has a 4 player mode. Competitive tournaments would be so cool with 2v2 and would add a new event for players to enter at tourneys! It would also be cool if Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite was added to the Capcom Pro Tour… probably would be way easier to market than Street Fighter to the eSports crowd based off of how crazy the MvC series is visually.
