Doodums, I had some really decent matches with Tao last night. There was almost no lag. Are there good times and bad times for you, or is it pretty much constantly bad for connections outside of Korea?
Tao, good games last night! It’s cool that you can use so many different characters effectively. I’ve pretty much got one team that I’m comfortable with. I’m trying to pick up Taskmaster currently.
haha mrmanuke! what’s ur real name btw?? is it the name posted on ur info page thingy on xboxlive? haha ya the connection was VERY good last night. i actually played last night after like 11pm until 2:30 with lagless matches after 1 with everyone i used to have super shitty connections with. they still ragequit on me tho. it makes me sad. i guess it’s the fact i’m a foreigner now and they don’t want me on the japanese network haha. and during one lagless match with a guy named hoygo, he usually rage quits but this time he beat me and rage quit every single time we matched up after that (about 15 times) hahaha played stoicmyyah once too. asshole beat me BARELY with x-factor sentinel and then stopped playing ranked matches and played only player matches for another TWO HOURS. OMGGGG it’s that kind of attitude that does NOT make tourney winners. even tho he’s probably the best ammy in asia right now lol. i was so salty after that that i waited another two hours to match up with him again but he never came back on ranked haha.
aaaanyway, i wanted to use about half the cast, but now the tier list is much more defined and the best character i dont’ know how to use right now is dante. next is she hulk or task master. ur team is really good! HOWEVER, i feel u should use one more character that can take advantage of spencer’s DHC glitch. it’s SOOO strong to be able to kill any character with one combo. other than that, with the idea that maybe a patch will come out to nerf the DHC glitch anyway, ur team is good! i tried using she-hulk a bit too but i kept losing online with her so i stopped. she’s got really weird move properties. like if u hold back after certain moves, she does her wall jump thing and command run… which really mess me up. hahaha
ah, one more thing i noticed, you don’t seem to push block enough… i think the mixup situations i do will be more easier to avoid if you push blocked in anticipation to mess up with my character spacing. other than that, i really wanna see how matches with u and shortroundisben play out!!! he uses phoenix tho hahaha tronne vs phoenix = gay
My real name is John. Is that what you see on my xbox live account? Man that’s crazy that you get a lot of rage quits. By rage quit, do you mean people disconnect in the middle of the match? I have only seen it a couple times. That could be because I have only a 6th lord rank and only about 43% win. You probably face people who are a lot more invested in their ranks. I somewhat doubt that you being foreign has anything to do with people not wanting to play you, but then again, I don’t understand the whole rage quit mindset at all. I will play against anyone and any characters no matter how many times I lose. I might get frustrated, but I don’t stop playing. I’ve played hogyo (hoygo?) quite a few times before. From what I remember, he was a 5th or 4th rank, right? I think I was about even against him, or maybe he beat me a little bit more than 50%.
Now that you mention phoenix, I think I remember playing shortroundisben a little. IIRC, I had trouble against his phoenix, but I was able to win some. This is a big “IIRC”, but I think I played one match with him where I was about to win by time out, and he activated x-factor, and somehow I got confused because I thought he had spent a meter on something and I attacked, activating DP, whereas if I hadn’t attacked I would have had more hp and won. That might have been a different Phoenix player, though. I often go the time-out route against phoenix players in ranked because I think the nature of online play makes it a very safe strategy. I actually got a different guy to quit playing phoenix one time because I beat him by time-out 3 times in a row. That has got to be the most frustrating way to lose, flailing around and getting nowhere for upwards of 60 MvC seconds against a Spencer who is just grappling randomly in the air. hahaha. I played the guy 3 more times and he didn’t seem to know any other characters, but he sure as hell wasn’t going to pick Phoenix.
Thanks for the tips! I’ll definitely try to push block more. Also, I’ll spend more time in training with Taskmaster. His DHC trick with Spencer is brutal.
ohhhh yeah taskmaster can DHC glitch too haha i forgot, i was just looking at she-hulk! ya u probably did play shortroundis ben. he uses wesker/mags/phoenix when he uses a phoenix team. otherwise, he’s using dante and tronne based teams. in my experience, there’s a few types of ragequits. 1, when u don’t want a guy to beat you. 2, when the match is laggy. i’ve had only a FEWWW people rage quit on me cuz we were both pretty highly ranked and they really didn’t wanna give me the satisfaction of me winning. UDA IwI is literally the ONLY guy with a good connection that will taunt me after he kills me and when i’m about to win, will rage quit. but here’s the thing. you lose a LOT of rank if you quit during a match. the little blue bar decreases a LOT. and then there’s the other rage quitter who ragequits because of LAG. they either just let me kill them to get the match over with quickly which happened kinda often this month and is i guess better than duking it out under extreme lag and then theres guys who will just see my characters and name and quit. there’s two guys who do it 100% of the time and that’s hoygo and endofrain. they won’t even play a match with me. and they’re always online lol. hoygo is a ragequitter tho, he used to be 4th rank and is actually pretty damn good but he got all the way down to amateur rank one day cuz he ragequit too many times. like i would play him when he’s 5th rank, he would rage quit and then an hour later he would be a 6th lord haha. at the end of that gaming session, he was a 9th lord lol. other dudes just don’t play u again after they win. it’s hard to avoid matches in mvc3 but back in sf4, it was easier to just kick a player out of your room after u get a win. anyway, it also has something to do with my playing style… i’m super aggressive and i’m used to lag. guys who aren’t get pretty pissed when they play me and just don’t wanna play again lol. honestly, the quits have more to do with lag than anything. it’s the most frustrating thing ever losing to a guy because of lag haha i honestly can feel their pain! anyway, what are u doing in japan? teaching english like me?
Yep. Teaching English. Where are you exactly? Seoul? I bunch of my college friends are teaching in Seoul. Unfortunately, none of them are gamers.
ya dude like right near seoul about an hour away on the subway actually. damn i have like NO friends from school that are teaching in korea. would be like 10X more fun. what program are u doing? JET? or are u at a private institution? i kinda wanna go and teach in japan after my stint in korea is over. i’ve been here since 2008 lol right after university. would be nice to play some matches of super mvc3 by the time that comes around lolz
Man Tao you must be really used to lag to play against the Jap guys with the current status of Korean connections going out-country… I played a few Jap guys last night and there was at least a 300 ms action lag time… I know that this game can be played in lag, but it turns into a much different game… certaintly not the way the game designers intended for it to be played.
I think i’m going to just stick to play Koreans and other people I know I get a good connection with, like you. Haha, even with our ~50ms ping sometimes I can really feel the pain when i’m trying to block your high/low tri jumps coming in with Mags… normally in offline if I was tri jumped by a mags and caught his high with my high block I could switch to my low block fast enough but with our (small) lag it’s just impossible.
I guess what i’m trying to say is that some key parts of the game are just inaccessible when playing online… I hope that our connection improves to what it was when we first played eachother… for some reason I remember it being perfect back then.
our connection depends on the time. if we play early or late and not in the evening when all the kids are downloading music and watching korean youtube, then ya, it’s nice and fast. i’ve gone home at like 1pm and had FANTASTIC connections with people. the closer it is to when people are at home fucking around on their computers, the slower it is. and i don’t like playing with lag anymore. cuz nobody likes to play me. i will only play now before 7pm and after 12:30 cuz taht’s when it gets pretty good! what’s a ms anyway? is it 1/1000 of a second? or is it 1/100? i dunno if you can block trijumps at home cuz there’s no way you’re playing anyone who can tri jump at home anyway hahaha anyway, the key to mvc3 is to pushblock the first attack so u don’t to be mixed up for the second attack. the pushblock is the key to successful defense online =)
We played 3 different times. The first time was crazy lag. The second time was a really good connection. The third time was somewhat laggy. I would love to be able to play with so much lag like you can, but I’m not really to put in the effort I would need for getting used to it. You’re the only person I’ve really played with that much lag anyway.
Btw, Tao, sorry for not replying the other day. Also sorry to floor16 (I think that’s your GT…), is that someone from SRK? I ended up playing player matches with my friend for over 3 hours. haha. Anyway, he was talking with ShortRound online. I guess they know each other from some other forums. We’ll probably set up some matches sometime soon. I’m free pretty much all weekend.
haha hey john. ya no worries about the no replies. i was kinda worried i spammed u with texts or something. anyway, damn, no wonder i have such low rep. if japanese players get pretty perfect connections with all of japan, then me and shortroundisben are like the only guys they’re playing with laggy connections. cuz we’re the only ones in korea who set our regions to japan hahaha it’s not like in sf4 where u can choose ur opponent based on your ping. in marvel, u don’t get that luxury and while i get some pretty good connections, most of the time, it’s not that great. it was actually PRETTY good with ur friend, herdofpenguins. so i think if we play when it’s not that laggy in general, it’ll be better. floor16 is doodums from srk. the thread starter of this thread. hopefully, you’ll be online later tonight. i’m gonna play until like 4 am haha hopefully people are online
Tao check your inbox. I need info about that PC 방 you were talking about.

Hope your stick works with xboxes
dualmod sucka! thanks to gummowned:)
tao, i’m trying to send you messages on xbl but it’s telling me “This message exceeds the daily limit of messages to people not on your friends list.” Even though you are on my friends list…
LOL That’s fucking random ya, you’re on my friend’s list but it’s not working? lol what were u trying to send??? it worked at the end of the night tho lol weird
welcome to korea mr alfredo
unfortunately, i don’t have a ps3 which i’m actually kinda sad about but i’m only here for another 4 months and it’s pointless to go buy a ps3. we can play mvc3 at hongdae tho. i actually wanted to buy a ps3 just to see what the competition online is like. the mvc3 action was fucking AMAZING like 1-2 months ago but sadly, nobody ever plays.
I was just trying to reply to your messages. All the messages you got, I had to type out with my controller. It takes forever.
- ps3
- f-o-r-m-l-e-s-s
- usually late night, around midnight to 3am ish
- ssf4, mvc3
i tried playing mvc3 online but i can’t figure out how their system works, i’m from the states but i’m in korea and my location is set to the usa (i don’t think i can change it), but in the game i can only choose “same region” or “any region”, does “same region” mean that i will find matches in asia? or north america? anyway i tried a few different settings and every single match i played was filled with horrible frustrating lag no matter the displayed connection strength
anyway would love to play some locals online
@Formless Same here brother, I tried to make a new account in Korea but it wont let me. Damn Sony
