They are both good supers (specially SA2), GJ is just way better.
If you’re a total beginner, i would say SA2 is a better choice than GJ to start with…
I specialize on SA1 Yun. Never could bother to learn GJ comboes. Long meter, but good damage and easy to confirm.
Isn’t SA1 and SA2 both confirmed from the same combo? I’d think SA2 is better than SA1 because you get more EX meter
Yun doesn’t really need EX.
The only thing Yun will need EX for is Nishoukyaku, and even then it’s been known to trade with Shoto cl.HP. SA2 covers a lot of range and has better damage potential than Youhou. It does pretty good damage for a 3-bar Jinrai-sized Super. Only problem I can see with it is that it forces Yun to play more of an offensive game, which is bad since there’s no real threat to him and his movelist has always been mediocre. Runaway meter-building tactics just don’t seem to work quite as well either. Look at Mester whenever he brings out SA2.
There is no problem with SA2 Yun but a majority of them online go SF4 and link shit every time.

Yun’s EX is usefull…sometimes.
Youhou is a better super compared to Sourai Rengeki in certain match ups I believe. But, you must avoid canceling SA1 from a shoulder tackle/command grab/st.mp,hp, palm combo.The damage scaling is almost ridicilous.
If you pick SA3, you don’t need to worry as much. You can activate SA3 3 times in a round depending on the set ups and Finishers.
There has been a real ebb and flow of character choices since OE came out. I remember playing loads of oros, elenas, ibukis and seans early on. Many more uriens too.
Also, each person’s experience with opposing character variety can be greatly effected by who they themselves pick most of the time. For some reason lots of guys have tried to counter pick me by using urien… I play gouki… just don’t get it.
Akuma takes hits like a sheet of paper and Urien can potentially kill him with like six tackles. But leave it to ignorance if that’s the sole reason they choose Urien against him.
They always seemed to run out of things to do once I showed them I wouldn’t just random air tatsu or dive kick into their AA fbs all day.

in my experience 80% of OE ranked Urien players will run out of things to do once you show them you won’t run into their AA fireballs.

Necro feels like a hard matchup for Elena and Twelve players are gross in general
On PS3 version the top 5 characters are, in order: Ken, Akuma, Ryu, Urien, Yun, I have played a ton of ranked matches(mostly player matches since ranked is endless grinding)and it feels like everyone plays for tier, the least used characters are Remy, Q and Oro. This is just on PS3, i haven’t a clue for 360 or the GGPO community though.

i’ve played more oros and qs than yuns. in fact, i’ve played more seans than yuns and chuns combined. process how little sense that makes. i don’t think char popularity matters but if i had to make a psn list it would look something like this

elena, q, ibuki
yun, hugo, necro
remy, chun, yang

I try to play everyone I’m interested in, though. Akuma, Ibuki, Alex, Dudley, Urien, Remy, Yang, Makoto, Oro.
