Ok, so according to your summary you don’t like Kanye, right? Would you also not like Jay Dilla, who produces similar type beats? They both produced for similar people like Common, and both use melodic type beats. I agree with the fact that the masses are stupid, but you can’t just say that Kanye is pop. Look at Jay-Z’s Blueprint. Most of that was produced by Kanye, but I would hardly call the songs on that “Pop”.
Btw I am talking about Kanye as a producer, not an emcee.
Actually, I CAN say that kanye is pop, because he is. “pop”, being short for “popular”, is justified being that almost every radio station has him on rotation. Again, does that make him “good”? No. Contrary to popular belief, a million people CAN be wrong. “pop” doesn’t have to be a negative thing, it just means you sacrificed substance for a larger base audience (most of the time). Dilla had melodic beats, but kanye had more of a “find-an-old-song-ramp-up-the-pitch-put-on-fast-forward-add-bass-and-water-for-the-next-hit” style.
The man could produce the occassional beat, but how many without samples are hits?
P.S. Tell that to the cities of Oakland and the whole 707. I was coming home from poleng lounge at 3am and a van going 100mph sped by me. Folks were sitting OUTSIDE the van through open windows. Going dumb is right.
Ok maybe there is a bit of hyphy but ONLY in the bay, cuz basically that’s all they have going for them right now…
Anyway I don’t think using samples makes a beat any more worse than a beat made on an 808. Almost every Premier beat uses a sample, but no one faults him as a bad producer.
I think you misunderstand. Do Kanye haters generally hate Kanye’s music: No. However, do Kanye haters think the man himself is a complete waste of life: Yes, yes we do.
yea there is no sf4 rap better than gigaton punch close thread.
@ retro kid the only people that hate on kanye are people who like pop music(soulja boy, lilwayne, drake, gucci mane, and other wack rap MC’s).Granted kanyes last release 808’s and heartbreaks was complete trash other than that is a great hip-hop artist
edit: that joytick madness was crap the artist has no flow and even less talent for wordplay he should be ashamed of himself for even releasing that
I’m not averse to samples myself, hell, one of my all-times faces is Ms fat booty. I’m just saying, kanye’s swagger is all about swag. He’s a walking commercial. His target audience buys tigerbeat, complex at best.
Ask any serious old-schooler about hip-hop (not rap, there’s a huge difference) if kanye is a representative of it and they’ll tell you. He’s right up there with Taylor swift and nickelback though…
Your entire argument is based on the fact that he samples? HAHAHA that’s classic. You are prolly some other college boy thinking liking “underground” makes you dope or something when all the real artist recognize talent where its on the radio or off.
+1 i see so many on those types of clowns… people that listen to 2pac or biggie and some “underground” rap and they they are hip-hop aficionados when they wouldnt know real hip-hop if it kicked them in the balls.
Love Black on Both Sides, anyway no one is saying that Kanye is a representative of hip-hop. I was just saying that he is a legit producer, and people hate on him for being soft. Hate on his singing/rapping ability, but lay off his producing. You’ll see when BP3 drops, it’s gonna be good shit. He has NOT fallen off yet.
Yeah he is a great producer and makes sick beats, but no one ever said he was the greatest lyricist alive or anything like that. He’s pretty average in that area.
yes kanye is pop. but does that make ye’ bad? hell no. dude made some of the most monumental beats ever (heart of the city much?).
as for sampling, sure ye’ over-samples but so does 9th wonder… imo, one of the best producers in the game right now. they don’t straight up JACK beats like diddy’s punk ass.
