Mortal Kombat, anyone?

Another stupid decision by Midway. The Grid brought in money and should have been treated like it. But no, Midway’s idea of marketing is “make MK, promote MK, everything else is ignored”. It was going to be on Dreamcast, and even if they had instead put it on the other systems it would have sold, even based on Midway and Boon’s names alone in places that didn’t have it because it was still known.

Midway seems to think that the only game that matters for them is the MK games. Remember when they hired John Romero to work on Gauntlet? Hell, remember they were even making another Gauntlet? And they hired John Romero, of Daikatana infamy, to work on it? That was a disaster.

To top it off, they even managed to ruin the Unreal franchise. Epic pairing with them was a huge mistake. Would you believe me if I told you that MKvDC runs on the Unreal Engine? Probably not. It’s like finding out the Doom 3 engine runs the original Quake. It was their job to promote and market UT3, and they did that sparingly until they decided to promote MKvDC, and just shoved UT3 under the rug.

Fuck Midway.

It’s no surprise I never heard of it being available online. I remember when UMK3 went online and the MK fanboys bitched that it wasn’t MK II. Probably why they did it. The fanboys outnumber the real players anyway, so of course it would get a lot of play. I wonder how many Jax or Mileenas get used in that case. Do players ragequit when they can’t pull off a fatality in time?

Ed Boon uses your tears for sustenance.

IMO

eh, you see alot of Mileena’s, Kangs and ninjas. But there is alot of very VERY good players out there too. But just like any game online, people cant take losing. Its the sissies who quit at “Fatality” or quit if you pick Jax, etc.

And that’s why they’re bankrupt and are selling their MK license to the highest bidder. Let’s see if the new holder is any good with the license…

It’s about time Midway hits the crapper. Since they haven’t made a really good game since… the mid 90s at most. It would be interesting to see what other companies would do with MK.
