After quite a bit of struggle, I managed to get 3rd Strike up and running on ggpo, but now my problem seems to be using my USB controller. Are only certain controllers/sticks compatible? Mine is rather cheap, so that’s why I ask. I know some people swear by the keyboard, but it’s quite unplayable to me. Thanks.
I don’t mind playing newer/weaker opponents if they’re eager to learn. I’ve played noobs like 40 games straight, not because I gain satisfaction in “beasting” them, but because they ask questions and want advice through the games and in order to keep 3S alive, I want to show the new kats that the community can be inviting as all serious players love fresh blood-er, new cadets.
I’ve been on GGPO for a long time and I’ve seen improvements in a lot of players like bodler and others. gotta share the love if you want to keep the scene strong IMO.
it would be so cool if all the old school payers on GGPO would sort of “sponsor” new cats and we could have a tourney of prodigys, with each student maining their teacher’s character.I think that would be so freaking cool.We could track their progress and create statistics to identify weak points through monthly ranbats.I think it ould be great, but it would be a long term things, possibly 6months and I don’t think enough people could come to a decisive consensus over the rules. would be fun though.Maybe a co-cup type format 2v2 teacher/student style.aaaawesome lol.
for example, if Blaq_SRK taught an eager new 3S player everything he knew about necro and Blaq Jr. played my Student’s Urien. That seems likeit would be fun and a nice way to give back to the community.
If people are playing bad, and seem like they might be worth teaching in order to have them become future good players then I’m all for it. I sometimes sit there explaining people stuff about their character cuz I notice that they need a little push in the right direction. I’m not even good myself, but I see it as more people to play if they decide to invest time.
Also, people here are focusing too much on the good/average players who talk a lot of shit on a regular basis, and we all know those people well. In fact in my experience I’ve had a lot of random noobs talk a ton of shit once they get one round on me after I’ve streaked them, and shit. They even taunt…I had this one noob tell me he’d destroy me in SFIV. Seriously, if you’re coming on ggpo with that attitude…just fuck off and play jab fighter.
I try not to get into needless confrontations, but people love to provoke you.
I dunno man. It is a little disheartening to see so much pro elitism and at the same time so many noobs on GGPO. It is so impossible to get a decent game sometimes because either A) most of the “pros” refuse to play you because they don’t know you, B) Everyone who does play you either lags like shit or completely sucks.
Sometimes it’s frustrating being in this middle ground of players. I really think there are a lot of good players on GGPO, but this cloud of elitism makes it almost impossible to play against a good player in fair conditions.
what “pros” refuse to play?
it could be theyre either idle or playing a match since they dont want specs in there game
most of the good players will play anyone regardless of skill lvl…the least theyll do is end the set early but i havent seen anyone who refuses a challenge
it could just be your challenging ppl who dont want to play you, thats all
they dont necessarily have to be good or anything
my brother and I just recently made accounts on ggpo. we’ve been playing 3s since '01-'02 and know the game pretty well. if you’re looking for some friendly competition, look for “teeth of busey” (my brother) or “aquafresh” (myself).
Really? I wouldn’t think you would have a problem because you’re pretty well known on GGPO. But all the time people who I see who I know are good either from playing them previously or spectating their matches and just ignore my challenges and say “where are all the good players at?”
oh well thats just a few ppl lookin to either get beat or want ggs
me personally i dont have a problem with playing anyone who isnt that good as long as they can do there best to learn from the set
for the most part though all the good players will be willing to get games in no matter who you are (well unless its one of those trolling dummies on ggpo)
This dumb brazilian cunt 42i46 in the Alpha 2 room needs to be slapped senseless repeatedly
I still don’t understand the game completely, but I have to say, having someone teach you really helps. Big Boss on 2df (I don’t know about gppo) really helped me out one night and I’d like to think I’ve gotten better from that small session.
I am glad to see some of you guys are willing to go with scrubs. It makes me less afraid to accept challenges
