Phil Hellmuth - $346,000 (seat 4)
Blinds $8,000-$16,000 ($2,000 Ante)
Hand 134- Mike Matusow has the button in seat 9, Hellmuth calls from the small blind, Corkins raises to $56,000, and Hellmuth calls. Hellmuth checks in the dark as the flop comes 9c-9d-8s, and Corkins checks behind him. The turn card is the 7c, Hellmuth bets $45,000, and Corkins calls. The river card double-pairs the board with the 8h, Hellmuth checks, Corkins bets $60,000, and Hellmuth calls. Corkins shows Q-x for queen high, but Hellmuth wins with K-x for king high. Hellmuth makes a very tough call to win that pot.
Phil Hellmuth is a master of the delicate balance of bluffing and value betting. And he can also read deep into these situations and look beyond the cards. This decision was also a very mathematical one, I would have also called because Corkins would have checked 100% if he had an ace. So he can either have King or less or value bet(fake bluff) a full house or higher pocket. Since this is very short handed with big blinds, the latter was very unlikely. Great call.
