Tim phan is in 6th, Phil Ivey 7th, Howard Lederer 31st.
There are 185 people left with 3 days (going up to 4 if necessary) left in the tournament.
WSOP 2005 was a very important tournament. With thousands of players, and 100 million dollars in prize money for all the tournaments. It would help to answer the ultimate question, is poker a game of luck or skill.
With so many amateurs joining, and a field of 5000 instead of the old days of 300, they said there will never be another repeat champion. Now Raymer is chip leader, and all the tourney winners were mostly pros : Johnny chan, Doyle Brunson, Todd Brunson, Mark Seif (2 bracelets), Phil Ivey, Barry greenstein etc etc…
Some amateurs did well, at one point one of them was a chip leader will 750,000 chips. In 2 hours he was busted, obviously because of his lack of skills. However, Daniel Negreanu and Phil Hellmuth did horrible at the WSOP. They might not have played very well but they also suffered bad beats. You need luck that’s for sure. At the very least you need to not have bad luck, when you’re 80% favorite pre-flop you need to win those.
They once asked Math Phd and pro player chris ferguson how much luck vs. skill is there in poker. Well he took in all the data from a final table, used complicated computer programs and algorithms, and came up with an exact percentage - 70%. Ferguson says it’s 70% skill and 30% luck.
Now with the wsop results, ferguson’s study and my experience, I can definetly conclude that it’s somewhere between 50% and 70% skill.

Not really. It should cost about $110.00 a night. For 3 nights it’s roughly $75.00 per person (if you’re 4 people). I’d hardly call that a fortune.
