Montreal February Thread 2007

Let’s have a break from all the talk shit.

I am willing to teach Third Strike to anyone who wants to learn next week from Feb 17 to Feb 24.
That doesn’t mean I’ll be available everyday and I’m not going to do individual lessons.

What we need:
-A place to play on console and that can house a few people
-Two joysticks

What I expect from you:
-Be willing to listen or stay a scrub
-Don’t try to show off plz, because you ain’t impressing me
-Be a man and take the criticism well
-Ask questions like: “Why when I do this __ ,I get parried all the time?”

The content:

The following topics are what will be covered. It is the basic but trust me people don’t seem to know them.
Knowing this will greatly improve your gameplay and we are not doing the advanced shit yet.
While I cover these topics, I will use a Ken vs Ken example. I’m not going into character specifics yet.
All this seems really simple but you will see that it’s more than that.

1.Move Start Up/Recovery & Frame Advantage/Disadvange
-Will teach you when to attack or not.
-Will teach you why some move have better priorities then others.

2.Block Stunt
-Will teach you the concept of it
-This will lead to more advanced tactics which won’t be discussed

3.Space Control
-Will teach you how to approach an open with you being in a good position.
-What to do in a bad position
-Learn to walk, dash and jump

4.Grab
-When to tech
-Option select grab pros & cons
-Tick throws

NOTE
-I will not show you how to parry
-I will assume that you have the execution to connect supers

I hope that this will help you guys do some damage at MAT.
If we get to do another session, I’ll go into more complicated stuff.

So who’s interested? Anyone willing to learn is welcome.

can you teach us how to beat randomness? :looney:

In 3s, yes

LOL! Only bitches talk shit!!! Then were all bitches!!

How to beat randomness? Im all in

hmmm I might consider taking a quick lesson although mvc2’s randomness is on another level :razzy:

Moi je me pose meme pas de questions

Phoun:are you willing to go to longueuil?lol I don’t live that far from the metro.

You can also ask Reggie for some places to play.He lives around metro langelier.

hahaha mais me semble samedi ya 2-3 semaine passer quand jai dit que ottawa va venir pis que ont serai pt 20 personne me semble que cest loing detre un talk shit sa?? LOL:rofl:

teach me 3s Phoun since there’s no competition for me in mvc2 in mtl

I’m scared to ask. <_<; Smokey, teach me 3s LOL!

I can’t house, I don’t have a joystick and I have poor execution from the lack of practicing. I understand the concepts of frame advantage etc., but I can’t apply them effectively in combat. I get raped when grounded (e.g.: against a ken, I never know if I should tech a grab, or block low, etc., especially in the corner).

I am very willing to learn though! I want to play Necro and Akuma for now. Then when I get good with them I’d like to play Makoto, but I’m like a sandbag when I play her. I don’t like to focus on one character though, I’d still like to be all-around (except with some characters I simply do not find cool). I’m not a scrub, more of a noob willing to improve. =/

P.S: Do I have to pay? Just to know…

pay me and i teach you alpha3 lol

NIGGA I’M BROKE! I ain’t paying no one, shiii~ lol, I thought it was done out of sheer niceness. Damn y’all! Alpha3 doesn’t appeal to me. I’m all 3s.

dude its only a joke LOL
actually if u want a learn it phoun is the good person . he’s skill its as good as me in alpha3 :lovin:

Voici un exemple typique du talk shit a la Mao

Talk pas shit

As I can see those who seem to be interested are:
Chi-Ritty
Waveshine
Payback
Reggie

If we can come up with a common place where we can do this, it would be great.

PS. You might not want to become the best of the best from this, but you’ll change your 3s status from scrub to decent player

For InfiniteWaveshine:
Not focusing on 1 character is the ultimate noob mistake when you want to play a game seriously.
If you just want to play 3s just to play, then be my guest and start learning all the chars and suck with all of them.

By learning 1 character and knowing it well, you will focus more on your gameplay during a match. Since if you don’t know a character well, then you won’t know what’s the best thing to do against certain chars at certain situation. While you are hesitating during the game, I just double perfected you.

Only when you know the game well enough then fool around but always have a main character.

Do you mind if you tell us when you’re going to be available?

So I can try to set something up.

Lessons from Phoun?!

Get ready to face his On Tilt Side he might be a good teacher but if you beat him with something scrubby… oh man its something I cant explain lol

We can do it at my place no probleme but people bring your sticks since mine are all busted

Am I the only one that uses “noob” and “scrub” with a negative connotation? >> Bah whatever, I find 3s to be one of the most interesting games out there, so I’ll cope with this newly acquired title for the time of the training… --

Anyway, I wholeheartedly agree with you, learning “1” character is the best way to go, but I also believe that when you get sick of training for hours with 1 char, you can take “a break” by playing with other chars for a little bit.
I’m not saying that you should learn all characters at the same time, far from it. When taking a break from learning a character, trying stuff with other characters fills the gaps when you don’t feel like playing your main for half an hour or so. Plus, it helps you when you go back to training your main character.

[It’s just like learning a language after the 5 years old stage. Before 5 years old, your brain cells allow you learn everything excessively quickly. Afterwards you lose that ability.
If you cram on vocabulary, you’ll lose interest quickly, especially if you force yourself to it. You should study vocab for a while, then when you feel like you need a change, switch to grammar, conjugating verbs etc. ]

I also think that (even though it’s excessively nice of you to offer to train people like this) you should maybe try to adapt to one’s personal learning techniques. Personally, if I work on 1 char during many hours, I need to stop for a while. Same when I’m studying. Breaks are always good, of course. So for some people, it’s good to switch to another char just for kicks (while still keeping your main char in mind). Regardless, after playing for 3 hours with 1 character, I don’t see what’s wrong in playing with 2-3 other characters for half an hour.

Btw, if something pisses you off when your “students” are being taught, don’t be afraid to tell them, you’re the sensei cuz you know your shit.

I still haven’t decided if I’m going to play with Necro or Akuma. I think they are both cool.
