That’s the first thing that came to mind when I saw her.
Cause we just do. For me, first impressions have a lot to do with it. In the first few episodes of season one, there was very little that impressed me about the Mane 6, except that Twilight seemed to be just as skeptical of the world she was in as I was of the fact that I was watching it. She pretty much made the show bearable for long enough for me to get into it, so yeah she’s my favorite.
I am a grad student. Therefore I can identify with her.

Babycakes confirmed that unicorns can at least levitate, and with all the time she’s spent in the libraries at Canterlot and Ponyville I’m sure she’s found a spell to control it by now.
