Telepone is down. Sadness
Unlikely as it is, is there any decently comprehensive competitive resource for this game? Trying to level up my game.
I don’t know of any right now. If you’re willing to slog through youtube videos of people trying to beat the computer even though they’ve never played before, there is a RBD tutorial by Hirosashi, as well as a spanish language tutorial for Fluttershy. If you have any questions about matchups and stuff like that, I think you can just ask on Squirrelnet.org’s forums and people will answer. Community is kind of dead right now though…
And, if not for nothing, Esuwai is seriously making me question whether TE is still a not-busted fighting game.

(Pinkie Pie infinites - he recently posted a video with an easier version, but for the sake of space I won’t post it here)

(Unblockable setup against RBD and PP)

(Applejack meterless TODs against characters with no invincible wakeups)

(Esuwai and his buddy basically making this game look like Marvel)
Always a start, but I was looking for some more basic things like BnB’s and footsie stuff. Alas, I was looking to play Pinkie Pie and Applejack, so I’ll have to keep looking.
Good to see this thread still active (somewhat).

Something random
[edit: actually, while the concept is pretty cool, this is… not that good…]
Was there a stream for Evo for Tribute Edition?
No, there was no stream for Tribute Edition unfortunately. What did happen was that I got enough time to run MLP:FiM-TE casuals in the BYOC area for about 4 hours over the course of the weekend. Tribute Edition at BYOC was a freakin BLAST. Holy shit! I got to play more offline casuals than ever before, and I had groups of 4-6 people at a time watching matches and waiting their turn to play.
I got responses ranging from, “Oh my god, there’s a My Little Pony fighter? Look at those combos! This is legit!” to “I had no idea this game was actually playable! Didn’t this get shut down?” to “Someone ACTUALLY brought this!” to “This game is really, really fun. I want to keep playing. Where can I download this?”
Notably, there was one player there who was familiar with the EVO build only, but picked up the two new characters quickly. There were two other people who were very familiar with Tribute Edition and it showed.
After playing for a while offline, I appreciate more than ever how the developers have created a really, really fun fighting game, and why I like playing it so much.
And then… without me knowing at the time, my setup apparently showed up on Gamespot Editor Maxwell McGee’s twitter.
And someone did record a few casual matches. I haven’t seen them uploaded to Youtube yet, and they may or may not be uploaded at all.
There were no money matches or tournaments played for this at EVO AFAIK. Only casuals were played at my setup.
Rumor has it a playable build with Derpy Hooves as a selectable character was present at some expo.
Whatever truth there is to that I hold dearly.
At this rate, I’m more interested in the new Mane6/Lauren Faust fighter more than Fighting is Magic Tribute Edition. Of course, I did try Tribute Edition, but I sucked at it (plus Fighter Maker does NOT play nice with the arcade sticks I have, guess I’ll try with Xpadder sometime later on).
Sadly, I’m much rather the opposite. Everything is going well for Mane6, and their game is going to look nice and play well. At the end of the project, we will probably have to buy it for our respective system, and it will end up being less popular than SkullGirls due to the cast being made up of animals and a ton of the brony support dropping off after the C&D.
Tribute Edition is all about ponies, picking and choosing characters the fandom loves, and making them a fighting game character that fits the character themselves. I’m super excited to see what they do with Derpy, as well as Trixie, Octavia, and Gilda.
So I know that the Tribute Edition team went underground (REALLY radio silence) for a really, really long time. I have no idea how far along Derpy is. If the rumor’s true, that’s awesome.
A couple of reasons I’d be really excited for Mane6’s version of the game:
- Add hitstun deterioration to shorten combos and possibly get rid of infinites and TODs (Apparently can’t be done in FM2K)
- Get rid of high/low unblockables
- No more need to use X-padder to get sticks to work, makes offline tournaments viable because X-padder button configs are a nightmare in practice
- GGPO netcode
- Difficulty slider so that newer players won’t be intimidated by AI Twilight (AI’s not a problem for me, but I’ve seen lots of newer players giving up against the AI, thinking the game’s designed for “Fighting Game Masters” only)
- Autoblock in training options (Or add a fully fledged training mode for that matter!)
If they can keep what makes Tribute Edition so fun but also add these things into the game, Mane6’s game may be the only fighting game I’d play outside of Skullgirls. I know they have these things in mind, as they’ve seen MikeZ’s UFGT seminar on how to design fighting games.
I’m pretty glad to hear that the tribute edition got some time at an offline event, there’s a lot to love about it. That said, I am in the camp that is more eagerly awaiting Mane6’s future title. The people who worked on the Tribute Edition did make a lot of good additions (stage select, updating characters to their state in the CG build, adding the unfinished characters, etc., mostly based on what Mane6 had shown of their work) but there are a lot of things in the tribute edition that remind me that Fighting is Magic is great because it began as a project with a team that wanted to make a good, fun fighting game. I’m not completely sold on the Tribute Edition group’s ability to stick to that vision rather than to throw anything into the game to please fans, but nevertheless I am somewhat interested in seeing what happens when they add an entirely new character to the mix.
With the new engine and development of the team, I hoping Mane6’s new version is gonna be something special.
So Rainbow Rocks dropped today.
Ironically the music was actually the weakest part of the movie IMO. I was expecting Jem and the Holograms and the movie didn’t quite deliver.
Everything else I really enjoyed.
Also, the after credits sequence teasing EqG3. Without spoiling anything, the EqG universe is going to shake up something fierce and I’m already excited about the sequel.
There were a few elements contradictory to the comics, particularly G4 Star Swirl was played straight rather than him being the goofball he’s written as in the comics. Plus it seems like G4 Twilight learned nothing from the AU arc in the comics.
Does anypony have links to character breakdowns/tutorials for TE? I’m having trouble figuring out combos and whatnot. And to those having trouble getting their PS3 controllers to work, I have found it easiest to use MotioninJoy to install the drivers and use Better DS3 to configure the buttons.
