Pinkie Pie’s move set kind of reminds me of Faust from GG.
I’m particulary impressed by the Cupcake Gou Zankuu.
Hey thanks for those that watched! I’m surprised it was entertaining for that long considering there was only 4 characters.
And yes, no one seemed to get the hang of poor rarity. Part of that was that her movelist at EVO was missing her magic commands! We are working on fixing that sometime today hopefully and we’ll link you guys the movelist images when they are done
Thanks for that feedback! Apart from obviously missing stuff was there anything that felt frustrating or broken? (You mentioned the input is a bit finicky but yes, that’s a limitation of the engine unfortunately. We are trying to make it as friendly as possible!)
Hey guys, been following this thread since its creation, and while it’s been plenty of fun to read reactions and silly stuff i figured it’s about time to quit lurking and say hello. I am Nappy, the programmer and one of the animators for Fighting is Magic…and I’m here with movelists and system mechanics! Of course anything shown at this point is heavily WIP and things change pretty drastically over time.
Hope you guys enjoyed the stream! the chat seemed to be having a good time, and I heard good things from the man on the scene. Did anyone else from this thread get to play? What were your thoughts?
Also shoutouts to Pfhor for using best pony and noticing many little tricks she can use. It really feels good to see players crack the game open like this! The feedback has been great so far.
Edit: There, spoiled the images to prevent stretching! Thanks jay.
for the damnation, i mean
I think you spoiler tag to hide stuff bro.
Also, I been toiling away with my half-information on this thread then you come in all fresh with full-on movelists like a hero. Damn you Nappy, DAMN YOUUUU!!
#SWAF
Huzzah!!!
The staff members have been doubled!
Stream was great, game can’t come out soon enough.
A few suggestions off the top of my head. Chaining seems pretty weirdly strict right now, although making the window wider would affect gameplay in a way you might not want it to (although I wouldn’t mind if you added delayable chains like Melty Blood). Maybe you should increase hitstop on certain normals (it’s fine for some) a bit and take chain inputs during the hitstop to make the game feel better and make chains more intuitive, while still maintaining the cancel window you have in place. It would still affect the game when it comes to hit confirmation, but the positive affect would be well worth it.
I think non-pinkie ground movement should be better in general, I know pinkie is supposed to be the best at that but the disparity is probably too big. I don’t think it would hurt too much to make their dashes go further and let the character cancel them with normals.
In the current version if a character doesn’t have the required magic meter to do a special, they will do the animation for the special but it won’t do anything. Is this intentional? I don’t think it should do this, probably a better idea not to have the move come out at all if you can manage it. When I was using Twilight I figured that you can use her chapter trap without any magic meter to just use the animation to cancel all of her normals on block which seems to put her at massive +frames, or use a magic fireball without magic for a fake fireball. The fake fireball thing is whatever (for consistency’s sake it should probably be removed), but having a ghetto roman cancel for no meter is probably way too strong even though I didn’t have enough time to abuse it at evo. Normal chapter traps are hella good on block and that’s fine, but I should be required to charge magic to get the benefits of it.
Adding onto that, I think you should try to remove every instance of a move animation coming out but the move not doing anything unless you are specifically making it a fakeout special. For example, when Rarity has a gem onscreen she shouldn’t be allowed to do the gem summon animation until she gets rid of the one she has.
I’ll post more stuff as I remember it.
that’s not a glitch, it’s Feint Canceling
You’re canceling a fake move?
Isn’t that a bit much lol
Didn’t Garou have something like that?
It proved to have hilarious combos.
My little pony fighting game WTF. I dont see why grown ass men like this show so much i guess they are pedophiles in training.
mod-edit: handled.
In the case of twilight Its similar to garous fake special but the requirements for it is an empty magic meter. I don’t think any animation should come out if you do the move without magic. If they wanted to add a separate command feint move like garou that would make more sense, but I don’t think twilight needs anything like that.
Chapter 1 looks retarded good.
Lich in Daemon Bride had a move just like that, and it was considered fuckin’ good.
And that’s because in that game, you could dash through fireballs. WTF?!?!?
Yeah I discussed this with Nappy earlier. As he told me, there are… technical problems. That being the problems you found:
- Cancel into special move
- move cannot complete due to having no resources
- engine sends you to another animation that has it’s own cancel conditions.
Our problem is we can’t intercept the move before it gets to step 1, ie, we can’t check the resources before the move is attempted. Sux.
We have some ideas on how to fix but are limited a little bit! a “non-animation” is certainly one of them.
Sorry, lemme let out some steam.
It was an avi file, and it was under ten hours. It was named “clip0009.avi”. Why the fuck would it get rejected?
UGH.
Tried splitting it into smaller chunks with Virtualdub, uploading one at a time, and seeing if those take?
Im beginning to suspect the reason Twi seems so godlike is because she’s Nappy’s best pony… Hmmmm…
I really loved playing this game at Evo. Something about it was strangely addicting, despite being such a simplistic game about ponies from a children’s animated television series.
I really hope that Applejack doesn’t receive some unnecessary nerfs due to how misrepresented everyone was during the Evo playtest. I personally felt that Applejack was the most limited as far as potential goes, and if anything, one of the characters that needs a buff the most.
Applejack’s gameplay was very straightforward and honest. She has a very nice KoF-esque hop with great normals like j.B and j.C to either hit front or crossup depending on setup. I usually tried to figure out a setup like frametrapping with cr.Ax2-3 and then doing an instant hop j.C to crossup. Her s.C is as close to an Iori/Sakura s.D/s.HK as you can get with tiny pone legs, so I was pretty pleased about that. The only thing that bugged me was her launcher whiffing on crouchers. The fact that you have to force stand with s.C wouldn’t be that bad if you could skip s.B in the magic series (s.A, s.C, launcher), but to my knowledge I couldn’t, so most of the time the opponent was pushed out too far to launch and start a reliable air combo. To cope with this, I was almost forced to end combos short with her Applebuck, Lassorama, or Summer Rambo/Bionic Farm, except when in the corner and/or when opponents forgot to ground tech. I didn’t get to play around with Counterbuck enough to figure out if there was some followup to justify a 2magic cost, but I felt like it was a little too steep considering how unreliable it is for her to get magic meter. I also couldn’t find a use for the C Applequake, as it seemed to whiff at most maximum ranges. Summer Rambo/Bionic Farm could definitely use a little bit more invincibility, or at least projectile invincibility throughout the entire duration, as I felt that strong zoning could pose a great problem to Applejack unless she has a meter to spend on an EX Applequake. I really like her overhead and I feel like it is just perfect as is, as well as how throws are implemented in the game to add another dimension to offensive mixup; the tech window really felt just right.
The only glitches that really stood out to me were some hitbox interactions that were kinda wonky and the Pause glitch. Oh, and of course the glitch where Twilight Sparkle used Story Arc Climax and got K.O.ed but the beam remained on screen.
Like others, I’ll try to post more about the experience as I remember more about it. I really have high hopes for this game, and can’t wait until the next time I’ll be able to play it (for some reason this game is maddeningly addicting). I was trying my best to break the game down on Saturday, but I also really wanted to stay on and really explore Applejack/Twilight Sparkle’s options, so I kinda got distracted in all of the fun.
p.s. i think rarity and pinkie are secretly way too amazing but just required a lot more thinking and setups so i didnt bother
