MLG picks up MK

KOFXIII is still really new, Though.

I’m just keeping it real…

Whatever gets you out of bed in the morning, man.

I was specifically taking bout MK9 out sale Street Fighter 4 not the series as a whole

I know, But I’m talking about Worldwide sales of SF4. No FG came close. Second was Blazblue, Then Marvel. It’s just shame Blazblues popularity isn’t mirrored in the west, the community sucks for it here.

The reason it sold so well worldwide is becasue its a Japanese FG not an American FG. As of now for some god awful reason Japanese FG are the Standard for all FGs even in America. So if it doesn’t have hit sparks, cartoonish chars, no deep Mechanics, then for some reason its an ass of a game and gets the axe.

Why FGC,WHY

Even than Huggy Bear’s argument is bullshit because Mortal Komat sold near 3.0 m, and Street Fighter 4 sold about 3.1m

Tekken sold around 3.5m(which destroys the bullshit theory that SFIV is highest selling fighting game)

$50 bucks to enter. Who’s still in?

I wish there was “dislike” button for posts like this^

Dedicating yourself to MK9 for 6 months makes you realize the mechanics are about as deep as SF4’s, which is about as deep as a wading pool. The move cap system (which prevents rinsing&repeating the same move in a combo) reminds me of MK4’s “Maximum Damage” system. People still found a way around and proceeded with shenanigans as usual. Also the block button is still stupid; Boon tries to pass it off as “unique” even though he doesn’t realize that it’s just detrimental to the flow of the gameplay.

I would rather play MK1 competitively than play MK9 ever again. MK9 sold off nostalgia, and why people take it seriously, is beyond me. Here’s hoping that MK10/MKX would keep my interest for a year.

How is the Block button stupid and how’s it a detrimental to the flow of the gameplay…Please explain

“Stomping my ignorance”? Get a grip on yourself. You are passionate. That is good. You do a lot for MK in your community. That is good. The Scene is dead in Michigan. That is NOT good. I have nothing against this game. I own the game. I would like to see the game (and any other fighting game) get bigger and more popular. I make a simple observation and offer my opinion and my disappointment in the lack of a MK community. The fact that you take it as a personal offense against you and your efforts is just plain goofy. The fact you then attack the Michigan Fighting Game Community and call there events “rinky dink” is just silly. These are people who take the time to show up, pay their money to play, bring setups, stay all day and help new players. You insult people who are doing things to grow the community but rush to defend the honor of those who are not. An I say again, in front of everyone you have no business being a mod. You are rude, rash, and hand out infractions for things that are not half as bad as what you post yourself. SRK isn’t my business so they could do what they want, but this thread (which before this post)was 3rd from the top shows there isn’t much action on the MK forums. Why risk posting an honest opinion here and risk an infraction or a MOD responding with a “Fuck You”. Rather than beating your chest and insulting people who post something you disagree with, why not see the problem as an opportunity to strengthen the MK base. The next “rinky dink” ranbat is this Saturday @ Timbuktu in Troy MI. Your only 1 state away bring some MK players up with you and create some hype. We have someone on our forums asking if there is going to be MK. It is right of I-75 easy to find.

No its not good the scene is dead anywhere, but all i can do is make players notice. Im doing my part, and no, i cant make it to Michigan to support the scene. i wish i could, and if i could, i’d show up everywhere to support the scene. But i am just one person, and this one person is trying to make players all over the country aware of their local scenes. But for you to call out my entire scene opposed to your local scene is ignorant. Rude? when rude is what im shown, sure. Brash? you dont know shit if thats what you think.

If you really care, then sign up on TYM and talk to the Michigan area players. Get more people involved. Its not up to Ohio players to make the scene in Michigan better, but yea, it would be icing to have local players (if any) in the Toledo, etc, area show up and support.

But if you want to make stupid comments, i’ll call you on them. Dont get pissed when people take offense to stupid things you say.

MLG’s event overlaps with NCR.
I was hoping things like this wouldnt happen but oh well

Yo I don’t get why you guys would be happy about MK getting in MLG. Have any of you ever watched an MLG event? Shit is fuckin WHACK! I honestly think “esports” will ruin everything the FGC has built up until this point. Especially with MLG running their tournaments the same weekend as other majors. The FGC is something special that was made by the people that truly love these games. All that will be fucked when you let greedy companys that don’t give a shit about the game run the tournaments. I don’t know if any of you guys saw the LG cup footage, but that’s pretty much what “esports” is. That and Adam Sessler commentary. When I saw Poongko and Justin Wong dancing at LG cup after their matches I couldn’t help but think they were just whoring themselves for money. It was pretty sad to see. This is why fighting games should not be your main source of income. You should have a career or job and go to tournaments on the side. That way you don’t have to sell yourself out. Playing video games should not be considered a sport of any kind. I hate sports. That’s why I love games.

TL ; DR
Fuck MLG and ESPORTS.

It makes the concept of cross-ups useless. Personally speaking, Im fine with it seeing as it makes competitive players focus on other aspects of the game. In practice, its not as horrible as it sounds. Really feel like getting back into this game. Kinda fell off after the first major patch but im curious as to what was changed in following patches. Anyone have a link for that or know a board I could find out on?

I mean MK has little to no similarity to SF, so when people want to say the block button is the dumbest thing to come out of a fighting game it really gets under my skin , but then i realized this is the internet so i have deal with it

Internet FTW… Block button for life… Them SF guys with their back to block is just nonsense
