So can you explain why vanilla SF4 was so unpopular in Asia even before the announcement of SSF4?

Not enough spiky hair?

It’s state of popularity before the announcement has little to do with its popularity decreasing.

You didn’t answer his question.

And I’d like if you could, as I am interested in the answer as well.

I didn’t intend to, just wanted to point its a tangential question at best.

Unpopular is kind of a subjective term anyway. Don’t really know what that means to the person who posed that question. Of course, there is more competition over there though.

It wasn’t unpopular, it has been top 10 since it has been out. It ain’t numero uno, but it is still getting played.

cram 70,000 people into an arena to watch people play street fighter and not participate, then compare it to sports as a profession

can you think of any other fighting game that should be on that list?

Totally random here but hell yea for Gundam Vs Gundam Next doing so well. Fun game right there. Anyway the podcast was an interesting listen. Myself personally though MLG having SSF4 or not doesn’t really affect me as I don’t ever see myself trying to make a living off games or even really going to tournaments for the money at all, shit i’d be happy just to hang with some people and play fighters with no money involved. I play them because I enjoy them the most out of any game genre, I go to tournaments for the social aspects of it and also to try to improve my abilities. If I ever really start winning stuff then that’s awesome but that isn’t going to make me quit the job i’ll have after i’m finished with College, i’ll just go like hey awesome I got say… 500 bucks let me go out have a nice dinner and just spend it leisurely.

Super Turbo
KOFXII
KOFXIII
Basara X

I got 3 of those from the SBO list.

I think there is another Gundam fighting game as well.

SFIV still has the original arcade lineup, whereas the home version has a shit ton more characters playable.
I think Tekken 6 home and arcade are close if not exact in character count.

Stop thinking that it needs that kind of support to be viable. It doesn’t.

Regardless, that’s far from impossible. But it would take generations exposed to and socialized in a world with competitive gaming as a norm for it to happen - just like popular sports today.

Why do we need to be making retarded amounts of money from this anyway? Because they do? That’s not a good enough reason they shouldn’t be making that much money at it to begin with.

Because?

i thought that it was a good listen. personally, i thought Sundance came off as a huge tool with 90% of what he was saying. he spent WAY too much time with qualifying statements to the point of: ‘people need to be WAY more kiss-ass to me, because i do so damn much all the time, because i am so philanthropic’.

having said that, i would very much like to see the fighting game community grow and evolve in any way that is beneficial. better monetary gains for tournaments (and bigger turnouts in general) will foster heavier competition, and that is always good.

so, i would really like to see Sundance come off of his blame-horse and capcom (usa and japan) sit down and discuss how to move forward.

i thought i already explained why SF4 isn’t popular in japan. japanese players think it’s a bad game because of too much defense, and they would rather play 3rd strike. SSF4 is pretty much dead in tokyo and top players like mago and daigo have to play on xbox live. guilty gear is the #1 2-D fighter over there. anyways, i think the SF community should just step back and let tekken be the reigning fighting game at mlg. it’s rightfully the better game and deserve it more. accept that you made a mistake and hope that another league will appear in the next decade… or just switch to tekken.

who the fuck are you to be talking all this like you know anything, everything you know you just heard in a random thread. shut the fuck up, seriously. no shit that SF4 players lost in a tekken tournament, your logic is so fucking retarded that I can say that since the best tekken player can’t win a SF4 tourney, obviously SF4 is the much better game thats way harder.

Back on topic.

EVO should set up with MLG. It could only help themselves get bigger. Run the SF tourneys as a chance to come to EVO. Use MLG as a vessel. Just make sure what you want is in the contract.

The laziness of people is hilarious why make a living by getting a real Job when you can sit on your ass all day playing video games

I mean damn at least pro poker players have businesses or part time jobs

comparing a pro athlete to a pro video gamer is hilarious

i’m just stating the truth, which has been personally confirmed by top players in tokyo. cry moar.

whats it like being an elitist about something you are a completely nobody at?

Because there are more responsible things money like that could go to. You don’t need to earn 200,000 for being good at a video game in much the same way you shouldn’t get paid 34,000,000 to be good at Football or Baseball. There are people homeless on the street, no food out in the cold.
