REASONS I HATE MY has said time and time again that a bigger pot doesn’t affect him or 90% of the community because they never expect to win tournaments anyways. He also claims this is one of the biggest reasons as to why SRK doesn’t support MLG.
I find this pretty ridiculous, especially since SRK seems to support other ideas that won’t directly affect 90% of its members. For example, there was a huge poll back before SSFIV’s release practically begging Capcom for an arcade version of the game, and SRK seemed to support the idea despite 90% of its members never planning on visiting an arcade in their lifetime. Why would they support such an idea?
Simple. Some of the best players in the world (in both America and Japan) play in the arcades, and they wanted to support them. The fact that SRK can support an arcade release but not support getting SSFIV into leagues despite both achieving the same goal (fostering a competitive environment, supporting the top players, bringing in new blood, etc.) is ridiculous.
I think people are looking at me as though I hold some kind of personal stake in competitive gaming, which is why I seem to approach this discussion so seriously. I’m a senior Sociology major, so I see interesting dynamics at work between social groups. That’s my inclination.
People simply aren’t being logical in this discussion. Trying to dismiss me as someone with some personal investment in competitive gaming’s success, even if that were the case, doesn’t imply there aren’t abstract social dynamics that can be highlighted here.

You are being ridiculous.
I can guarantee 90% of SRK & SF players support SSFIV being in MLG, at the same time I can guarantee you 90% won’t join the league.
So 10% of the people is why MLG ain’t running SSFIV, even though the top players would join?
at most larger tournaments top 8 is paid out though.
Maybe not the large amount of money that MLG would presumably pay on a regular basis, but they do get some form of winnings.
Look at SSF4 at MWC, top 8 got paid out in that game via bonus pot money and the 3 top got their regular winnings on top of the bonus pot.
Can we do without MLG? sure, just as we can do without MWC, FR, even Evo. Does it hurt us? Not really, does it benefit us? Only the top players. What I dislike is MLG’s position that they’re here to be our saving grace and respond in an unruely manner to us declining it.
You say that, but every time I see these types of threads, the large majority of posters seem to be completely against the idea of SSFIV becoming a part of MLG or any other circuit. This is the only thread I’ve seen where posters seem to be split 50/50 at best.
I’d like to believe that it is the vocal minority that disapproves of competitive leagues, but until I see solid numbers either way, I have to go with what I’ve personally observed on these forums over the past year.
So what your saying is your on this forum nobecause of the interest in SSFIV and its relationship with MLG but b/c of the social dynamics it would bring to the table? Lol im not calling you a lier but please enlightin me?
Is that really the case? Or just your perception of the issue?
Think about that, because part of the problem is multiple groups looking for a place to rest the most personal responsibility. This whole thing has really been more petty than anyone’s been willing to admit.

How silly of me, you are the all-knowing-truth of everything community and street fighter. It doesn’t matter if it’s MLG, the Marines, the Catholic Church or your Grandmother who organizes it: more legit tournaments are a good thing. If a company with the pull that MLG has wants to get into running SF tournaments, how exactly is that bad for the community?
If the top players are genuinely behind it, and I am more prone to believe Slash than you, then that means it fosters an even more competitive scene, which can only be beneficial. I didn’t say that the community “needs” MLG or anyone. It’s a loss for the community that we are missing out on more tournaments due to some bad blood from 5 years ago, if that’s what’s holding it back. The GAMME speculation seems a bit far-fetched, but who knows what’s got Capcom Japan’s nuts wound so tight.
Where did I say current tournament formats aren’t “well enough”? Strawmen, everywhere. Current tournaments are fine. I enjoy going and participating or even simply spectating. In fact, I like them so much, I’m advocating that more of them is a good thing. Whether it comes through MLG or we get three EVOs in one year is irrelevant, I just want to see more large tournaments. The topic at hand was about how close MLG got to making this a reality, and it’s a shame that it didn’t come to be.
What?
I’m on this forum because I’m serious about fighting games, yes. And yes, I am a competitive gaming advocate. But my investment in this discussion itself comes from my education. I believe my arguments come from learned principles, not from a personal agenda.
haha how synikal you are pretty entry-level especially that post about sociology jesus christ man

50/50?
Go through the thread and you will find 2 people that said absolutely no.
Everybody else said Yes
That ain’t 50/50 bro
Exactly. Tournaments are in no dire position; there is absolutely no need for MLG to be heavy handed in saying they are needed…because they are not. It is similar to the Fail Smash players coming to SRK and making threads/ruining other threads in trying to convince us Smash is a fighting game and get our acceptance.
We are perfectly fine. And since COJ has declined their offer, them coming to ask us is pointless. As was already stated we have no significant decisions on Capcom so the thread really should have been closed and the subject of MLG dropped and rejected.
so yeah this post is spot-fucking-on and probably should stickied
wait this thread is far from over i still need the obnoxious fighting game players to stop getting “hype” so i can hear halo

Jingo did you know SFIV was never released for arcades in the U.S.?
SRK asked for it still.
Why didn’t they release it, even though SRK wanted it?
They still haven’t changed their minds.
dayday, did you know that all major arcades in the US import their games regardless? Did you know that a Japanese release of a game still helps them get, you know, a game? All anybody wanted was another Japanese release. That’s exactly what was given.
“all major arcades in the US”
I read a few pages back and damn… so many ignorant SF elitists in here. Also, what’s with the bashing of other games? Unless you’ve played Tekken, Halo, Smash, etc. (at a competitive level), you shouldn’t be spewing ignorant comments on what games are “better” or dismissing other games as if they were nothing.
Apparently, not EVERYTHING was revealed in the interview so we still don’t know all the reasons as to why SF isn’t in the MLG circuit. So I’m not going to go off pointing fingers and blaming anyone based on mere speculations. But coming from a competitive gaming community who’s game is included in the circuit, I can promise you that MLG will only do good for the competitive community. There really is no reason why SF should not be included.
