MK9 | The Ermac "We are many, you are but one." Thread

Hey people

Im really amazed at the kombos you guys have but I have to ask, did you ever pull them off in a game? Because the games I usually play, ppl just either turtle or spam. So if I get close to start off the BP, BP, I get uppercuted.

Is there a way to play Ermac? Like should I be agressive or more defensive?

Don’t use BP, BP as a regular combo. Use it to punish unsafe moves considering that both hits are high and if it’s ducked, you’re going to lose a lot of life. If you want to throw pokes with Ermac, use FP,BP because the second hit is mid.

All the combos in my videos are practical combos that you can use for actual matches. Some easier than the others. For the tough combos, they are quite difficult to execute but they look so pretty and you don’t have to worry about not wanting to attempting them for fear of dropping them. A lot of the combos that have difficult sections, before you get to that difficult part, you’ve already done like 40 + damage. So to actually land them for max damage just puts the icing on the cake.

Thanks for the tips!
I was actually trying a combo I saw but damn its hard to get the timing right.
Also when I’m in a game and I say block scorpion’s teleport and he is just helplessly rolling in front of me, I panic and just uppercut to make sure I get him instead of doing a combo lol

But do you think I should turtle or is ermac a more aggressive type?

I’m still trying to figure that one out.

ermac is a character that can do everything, his most effective spot though is mid-range imo, to be exact its the max range where you can ForcePush for pressure and not get punished. if you want to find that range its the exact distance of Johnny’s dash kick or Raiden’s superman.

yea I noticed his range is mid.
He does feel that he can be good to keep an opponent away or get up close and personal.

Also I’ve been trying to find some damaging combos after I do a ground level teleport…
So far what I got is when i do the teleport and punch them, I do the move “Controlled Chaos” (Forward + BK, Backward + BP)
Does anybody know how I could make that better or a different move that is stronger?

wouldnt have asked if i saw anything!

Guntank, it’s not a low. Look at the property of the move. It says “medium”. It’s an overhead move and Ermac’s only overhead besides the neutral jump punch.

Any move that registers as “medium” is an overhead.

That explains it, it’s tricky move with an ironic name. a lot of people block it low, too bad it doesn’t lead to some real punishment but still pretty sneaky

ya so far i have been using it for mix up, can really catch casual players off guard and even pro players have to suspect it

i love his overhead, i also love how the start-up animation is similar to his f+4 Low kick, same with his fireball and teleport. makes mixups a bit more interesting as they actually have to guess.

my personal bnb is
BP, BP, Force Lift, Neutral jump BK, air Force Port, dash BP, BP Force Push. does in the high 40s
and you can replace the force push with the x-ray for mid 50s damage

Combo question

Relatively noob player here, and one of the combos I use a lot as ermac is

BP, BP, force lift, jBK, force port, dash, BP, BP, force push.

But I was wondering why sometimes after the force port, my enemy ends up behind me rather than in front of me so that I can dash and continue the combo. Has anyone else had this problem? Is it a timing issue?

It has to do with timing. Ermac can be pretty tricky with it’s timing

Hold up the only overhead I came across was up+4

that is correct, u+4 is Ermac’s only overhead (outside of jump punches)

I’ve posted some matchup info about Ermac in my Smoke thread. The Smoke boards don’t seem too interested in discussing matchups, so I was hoping people here are. If you could take a quick look at the info I posted and tell me where you agree and disagree, I’d be very grateful. It’s always helpful to talk about matchups from both sides.

Here’s what I have written:

Ermac

[details=Spoiler]Matchup: ?/?

Strategy: You have advantage at full screen, disadvantage at mid screen, and are about even close up.

At full screen, throw smoke bombs and hold block right after. If Ermac tries to fireball, it trades with smoke bomb in your favor (8% to 12% even without a combo, and you get okizime). If he tries to teleport punch on reaction to your bombs, you’ll block it and he’ll eat a combo. Try to vary your timing on the bombs, as he can only teleport punch if he correctly guesses the timing of your bomb and teleports at the same time. Smart Ermacs will realize this disadvantage and will block-dash to about mid screen. You need to counter his spacing with your own teleports.

At mid screen, your goal is to get in or get out. Ermac beats you badly here. If you jump, he can force push you out of it. If you throw a smoke bomb, he can threaten to jump punch in on you for huge damage. You need to block-dash in or out and not try anything risky.

Up close, both of you are about the same threat level. Ermac’s 2, 2 combo is decently fast but you can duck under it cleanly. His B+1, 1, 4 combo hits special mid but is very slow, so if you’re crouching you can poke out of it. Either of these combos leads to very big damage, however, so watch out. Meanwhile, you have your 44% combo with 3, D+1, 2, and you can threaten a fast overhead with B+2 for 35%, and you have a fast sweep for 7% + okizime. Neither of you really like being up close, so depending on the opponent and how comfortable you are up close you may be able to get the advantage here.

If you score a knockdown, Ermac has no answer to cross up jump punch on wakeup. Do that into a sweep/overhead/throw mixup.

The matchup looks like 5/5 to me, possibly slightly in Ermac’s favor since he can just blockdash a couple times to get to mid-screen, while smoke has to work harder to stay at full screen. Ermac also has an easier time cornering smoke for the same reasons.

I like what you wrote.
As an Ermac player, you’re correct, if Smoke keeps throwing smoke bombs, i do what you said. Sometimes it goes in my favor and sometimes it doesnt.

While I like to get close up to Smoke because I hate his smoke bombs, i’m always worried that he will do that combo that starts with the kick to the legs and ends with a pop up uppercut (dunno the names).
Both are very strong up close so its just a question of finding the opportunity to pull a combo. Ermac’s close is sometimes kinda slow so i usually rather poke then get a Force lift and go from there.

I think Smoke vs Ermac is one of the funner match ups, its pretty balanced and both are similar and very different at the same time.

Fusion --> lift --> fp/fk teleport–> dash BP,BP,Ender never seems to work for me outside of the corner. Fusion just seems to push them too far away from me so my ending punches don’t hit

Yay, someone finally responded!

Both can do a lot of damage up close, but I wouldn’t call either a strong close fighter. A hint for you for the matchup - the 3, D+1, 2 launcher string starts very slow and every hit is high except for the second, which is a mid. You can beat that string with pretty much any of yours, except of course B+1, 1, 4 because that one is also pretty slow.
