Have they confirmed how many characters will be available once the game hits the streets? I think we got like 15 confirmed so far.

You aren’t the only one. Reptile being my fave khar (and the one I used to play during UMK3’s hey-day in my area back in the day), I look forward to seeing more of him.
If this game is decent, maybe I can try and test the waters for MK at Xanadu…that would be the day… :lol:
lol cmon man, I knew about that, I’m talking about the downward lightning from the sky. It’s one of Rains original specials, and Nightwolf has it now in MK9 as one of his specials.
Nightwolf’s had that since MKD though. He was one of that broken game’s many broken characters partly because of it.

Ok, so what I’m asking is: What specials does Rain have now that make him unique? I seem to remember the Downward Lightning Bolt, which is now covered by Nightwolf, a waterbased projectile… and maybe he spilled some water on the floor to make the enemy slip, ala Sub Zero?
I dont even know anymore. But I can’t help but feel like Rains moves are already covered by other characters.

Well, if he was going to return, now would be as good of a time as any to possibly “re-invent” him (again). Hence his name, his move set should focus around water in an interesting way. Let Nightwolf and Raiden fight over who gets to use lightning. :lol:
For example, the guy was shown to be able to make “Water Portals” in his cameo in Deception, which was then made a part of his moveset in Armageddon. I’d like to think such would give a more believable reason behind his “Super Roundhouse” kick from UMK/Trilogy, as well. (Re: He kicks the opponent into a portal farther away, which then pops them out of another portal closer to him.) They play around with stuff like that, and I think there would be a good deal that could make him a unique character in his own right. But we can only wait and see…

But I can’t help but be put off by a character who’s projectile is essentially a water balloon.
Yeah, that’s the biggest problem with Rain. Everyone has him beat. Sub-Zero has water covered in a way better way than Rain ever could, and Raiden and Nightwolf are fighting over Lightning. Maybe I just can’t think of any cool water attacks. Meh.
Well, there’s nothing that says that they can’t do more with that too. Instead of how it was done before, it could be like a bubble that then (upon successful hit) ensnares the opposition in a bigger bubble, and then you can move them around like before.
And if they really wanted Rain to have something similar to that Lightning Move he used to have, they could just make it so that he summons a big water geyser beneath his opponent instead (like Sougetsu’s move in Samurai Shodown). It would function in much the same way as before, it would just look different.
Again, not so much altering his klassic moveset entirely, just adding a little bit more aesthetic “flair” that should play well to what the kharacter is all about.
I mean, to me, you (or rather, NRS, at this point)) only need to look at examples like Sougetsu and Suija from Samurai Shodown/Spirits for an idea of how water can be played around with in an interesting way.
