I’m been getting desyncronized alot. And I been playing friends with good connections from other games. Its not just the freakin lag that hinders the experience but its also the fact that most ppl are going to rage quit after one match or quit just because. I would think the solution is to go to chat rooms to challenge ppl but everyone is either going to deny or quit after one match. Wth seriously. they could have implemented ggpo early on in development but its too late now. I think thats why most fighting games out can’t just make a rapid shift later on the development bc they already had an agenda they must meet.
Because no other fighting game has used it in a retail release yet.
Because you have to ask for Ponder’s code?
Because NRS believed their netcode would have been fine at the drawing board, but ++development later, turned out they put in more stuff than that pre-assessment indicated as ‘adequate’. Now they’re trying to tweak it for improvement, but how that will happen is yet to be seen.
Exactly. This game could have built a solid beachhead and expanded its presence, but the garbage netcode really stifled the community and many like you and I have abandoned it. MK missed its window of opportunity, and will be forgotten within 6 months unless something drastic is done about the netcode, which I personally think is unachievable. When this game came out many of my friends were playing this, but almost all of them have since abandoned it and returned to SF4.
I recently went back and started playing SF4 again myself, and it makes MK look stupid online. Hell, even MvC3 makes MK look stupid online…
They have a contract with Gamespy. GGPO doesn’t work as well with models as well because of the rollbacks. They’d need to keep more information on hand besides the inputs, including the position and motion of the character models at the time instead of just a sprite.
False on the model part. More complex rendered games like MK, SF4, MvC3, etc. need to be designed with GGPO in mind.
None of the above were. GGPO works on everything, if the game was designed for it to be so.
As reference, 3S emulated via GGPO isn’t great either.
Well the model thing is what a producer from another company (either Capcom or Namco) said when talking about why GGPO wasn’t used for their recent 3D games.
They only said it was harder, not impossible.
the patch for the net code won’t fix shit. The reason being is that they keep trying to tweak an input delay based net code instead of redoing it and going with a GGPO style one. As long as the input delay based net code is there for this game, or any other, it will always be pure shit online in America.
GGPO can be used for 3d games and its not really even a topic @ this point. Its used in FPS games for both PC\console and its also used in other fighting games that are 3d. The only thing thats preventing companies from using it are the companies themselves who refuse to upgrade their shit garbage net code.
I don’t know how people can say well MK sucks online, I can’t do shit but on sf4 I can! in fact, they’re both the same method of transferring inputs online so they suffer from the exact same flaws. If you hate MK online, you should equally hate sf\mvc3 online too because capcom uses the same net code style.
Yes, just as I said it didn’t work as well, but also not impossible. Same difference basically.
It is more of a case of “We don’t want to put THAT much effort in to online when people will just play the game anyway” They CAN do it, they simply see no immediate reason to. I thought this would change with NRS, but I guess not.
I see, thanks Zeb!
Selective reader.
Its pretty simple: I’m basing my opinion purely on experience, and MK is unplayable most of the time, whereas SF4 is pretty damn close to offline quality most of the time. I could care less about the underlying technology…
this guy is smoking something good, because I can play people in america with SF4 and get a yellow connection and have very playable matches. I cant even play anyone in my own area in MK and get anything close to that, this is dogshit netcode.
The main thing that bothers me is I never see anything but green connections in MK lobbies. Even if I go to some lobby with people all far away like Brasil, everyone is green. What is MK’s lower limit for a green connection, 200ms?
But since 1.02, I’ve had a few online matches that were extremely responsive and felt the closest to offline-play since getting the game. Maybe I just got lucky and found someone nearby.
ahh ok… my PlayStation version still is telling me I am on 1.01, and I also can’t connect to any matches, what the hell is going on did they pull the update? I assume this is happening because some are on 1.01 and some are on 1.02 and the game versions are not compatible.
bingo. i’ve played SF4, MvC3 and MK (post-patch) online and they all equally suck. i don’t even need to play AE (and i won’t) to know it’s the same garbage as well. frankly, the only game with promising online play will be 3SO (GGPO no surprise there).
you guys must be smoking some serious crack. Yeah they may be using roughly the same method, but there is a workable implementation (within reason) and a simply fucking broken implementation.
I live in NZ, I can play SSFIV and have VERY playable matches to people in the US with a yellow bar connection, and the experience is consistent.
In Mortal Kombat if I am lucky to actually get a session going (this game session is no longer available), I am plagued with input delay over 1 second. and this is playing people in my own area!
yet, I will be another switching to 3so when it drops…
The game is MUCH more enjoyable now that the lag has subsided!
I can’t even get a match at all now. (game session is no longer available.) then again my version says it’s still running 1.01? did they pull the patch?
