Read your post, and was like “man, maybe I shouldn’t buy.” But then I saw your location. MoCo is balls, man. Balls.
Has the lag gotten any better now that the game is officially released, or is it the same?
Still the same. KOTH is horrible. Everything else is bad as well, but not like KOTH.
Online definitely needs this fix.
I don’t think the game deals with lag by adding input delay. When I encounter lag, it is the kind where frames freeze until everyone catches up.
I believe that the online code adds a couple of frames of input delay to all matches, as a way to help keep things smooth. I don’t know this for certain, but that’s the way it seems to me.
Also, King of the Hill mode is fine until 1 bad connection joins. All it takes it the one bad connection, then EVERYONE in the game has to deal with the lag.
how many frames?
IDK. I’m not even certain that this is how it works. It just seems that I always have a constant amount of input delay, regardless of how good/bad the connection is. Other than this input lag, the net-code seems great. I don’t start getting frame skips unless someone has a 1 dot (or maybe a low 2 dot) connection.
I’m getting bad latency and bad lag all around. No exceptions.
Justin.tv - TYMTV - Super Street Fighter 4, Super Street Fighter 2 X, Street Fighter Zero 3 …
A long set we did today online with the game .
It seems to take several minutes for me to find one online ranked match.
As much as I like the MK dragon logo, I’m starting to get a little sick of watching it spin round and round as it “Finds an opponent”…
Hey guys, I just want to point out that playing with someone locally is almost FLAWLESS. I have the same issues as most of you with constant lag in regular rooms, but I tried a private match with a friend yesterday that lives here and it was pretty much just as good as offline play, with no real input delay. I highly recommend you test this yourselves.
Please tell them that the netcode needs improvement (in a respectful manner):
Spread the word.
i haven’t encountered any lag at all and finding matches is easy for me. but in KOTH mode while the games are good I get kicked out randomly. i don’t know if this is a connection problem or if they some how kicked me.
well it seems i fixed my “connecting lobby is stuck” situation. i guess mu wired D-Link Router connection just wasnt getting through or something so i had my PS3 connect to my router Wirelessly (not the best way to play fighters i know) and now its fixed. played a match and it was OK with only a slight hint of lag through the end of the match. since this game is probably selling really well (i hope) im hoping they either use a different matchmaking provider (not likely) or get some better servers or patch it out so it works better (more than likely).
after all, its what an amazing fighter like this deserves.
I don’t know how the game deals with lag but hitting basic BnBs that involve dashing or rapid fire hits that are not a target combo (for example Johnny Cage BP spam in corner) are near impossible some matches.
I swear the timing for wake-up reversals is completely messed up online too. I can do it 99% of the time offline playing with friends, when I go online its easily 50% or less (these were laggy matches though). I’ve tried everything from doing it normally, to delaying the timing to try and visually line it up, either way it barely works. It’s so weird too because the window to do a wake-up reversal in this game is HUGE.
I had nearly no issues playing any fellow US players in SSF4/MVC3 regardless of what state they were in. I could still hit combos 90-95% of the time and be able to time reversals/punishes fine. I assume I’m being paired with people from the US (no way to check region so I don’t know) and atleast 50% of the games I have gotten were what I would call unplayable, where juggle combos were borderline impossible. If you thought MvC3 online was bad (I think its okay, not good but okay) then this game will make your head explode.
Really, good or bad netcode boils down to how it deals with lag, not how well you can play with people in your same city/state. If you lag when you are geographically close it would almost certainly be an issue with one of the persons connections.
one thing that helps a bit with all games online is spring for Business class internet. I had regular consumer internet when I started playing SSF4, then my wife upgraded to business internet and the difference is extremely noticeable
dump the D-link and grab the Vizio HD wireless router, pair that with business class internet and it is awsome
this is good to hear it i thought it was just me experiencing the lag hope they fix it soon
online has been ass, i tried going into a room & picking people with 4 green dots, it was still like playing a psychic guessing game…could never even get 1 KOTH session going, it always booted me off as the matches were about to start
i know my connection isn’t that great, but this shit don’t happen in SF
mk9’s netcode is generally bad imo.
ive only had a few matches where there wasnt crazy lag
i have 30mbps down btw
Yeah, I notice 1v1 is fine almost perfect even in tag matches with alot going on. But KotH, perhaps the best online mode, is terribly shitty. You’ve got to play against people who really have good connections as host, or with lobbies of three or four dudes, cause one bad connect and your eating shit.
However, unlike MvC and its online woes, matchmaking is probably the worst aspect of the netcode as anything short of individual invitations to friends and trusted sources is like pulling teeth.
