Justin a have a spare official one i can give you for “free”, all i ask is for you to take a look at my dreamcast and see if you can identify and perhaps fix the problem. When i load up my game it basically resets after a certain time(the character selection screen). I seemed to of got it working when i layed it upside down to play - i’m not happy with this so if your interested in helping me identify the problem i’ll be sure to give you it, either way bro.
Shu’s DC had the same problem, and so did a couple of other people’s; there’s really no other solution except to get a new laser, which would be hard and expensive, since the DC is a dead console. Stick to the upside down, or get a new DC.

I’m sorry to tell you this Jerris but you laser is on it’s last legs. The side/up side down method for DC repair has been around for years now and it essentially only puts off the inevitable of the DC eventually dying out. It’s actually a big reason why I’ve wanted to buy a 2nd unit for so long because I know mine (which has amazingly held up for seven years now) will eventually go the way of the rest and die off. Again I’m sorry but I can’t help you in repairs (not my area of expertise) and as Anant pointed out, getting that laser replaced will be an expensive move.
better off to buy a new dc for like $30 from somewhere.

Hmm, really? I found my PS2 loaded slower when on it’s side. For example, if i was playing GTA, the entire world would take time to load, so it would look like i was walking on air, until the streets loaded. But when it’s on it’s full base, I never had the problem.
Jerris: when was your DC constructed? my 1st one i got was made on August 1999 and thus couldn’t play burned games so i got a 2nd one made March 2000 and it plays everyhing, either your laser is dying or it’s the console version
Anant: my cousin had that GTA3 problem before when the PS2 is horizontal, guess it varies on chips/versions…
