GGs Jaron and Matt, especially Matt, we had some close matches and good fights… keep working on that Akuma, you’ve gotten better since the last time we played.
Gonna check out the new KOF and spend some time with it and see what I think… although me learning or really getting into anything other than 3s seriously at this point is a longshot.
GG’s today. I did ok at 3S. I’m doing Akuma’s kara throw consistently now. Need to work on my mixups with demon flip. Good to see people willing to play HDR. I like that game a lot sure it’s not OG ST but still a fun game.
I wouldn’t say I got better lol. I did take a match from Jaron’s Ken tho so for being rusty I’m proud of that. I still don’t know how I’ve managed to place 2nd and 4th in that game at 2 tourneys hahaha.
Yeah I saw you going for the kara throw, and you hit me with it a few times, excellent. The demon flip mixups work great with s.hp or close s.mk- you can demon flip or command divekick, s.hp and see if it hits. If it hits you can cancel into fireball -> super, if they block you can do another demon flip. Spamming demon flip loops works great against characters like Makoto, Alex, Q, and others without strong antiair specials, and is also confusing as fuck against the rest of the cast. Best advice I can give again is work on mixing up, and confirming low mk and mp into SA1. c.mk, lk tatsu, shoryu is great with no meter but if you have the meter the best damage comes from a simple low mk -> super
yeah har har lol derp xD
I agree, it’s fundamentally the same game, I personally don’t like the art direction as much, I dislike the remixed music as well. The whole thing almost feels like a flash game imo. It’s still a great game and SOME of the balance changes were good (i.e. Cammy), I’m not sure I like Zangief and T.hawk having hcb instead of a 360 for a command grab motion (makes them extremely easier to play, especially considering the strictness in 360 motions in the original - however this generation of fighting game players don’t like strict execution or practicing a single move or combo for months to be able to apply it in a match). Overall a great game and I had fun matches in the few I played with Matt (Bridgett and Matt played it for over an hour I think, while Jaron and I played 3s on ps2).
I like both too but if forced to choose between one or the other permanently I’d always choose ST. Biggest reason isn’t the changes to moves or gameplay but art style. ST was the last game made in a “realistic” sprite art style, very gritty and extremely detailed with very obvious variances in shading. Compare Ryu’s focused, tiger eyed grimace with his hair almost covering his eyes in his fighting stance in ST to his Alpha sprite (and subsequently CvS, MvC since it was reused) and I’m sure you know what I mean. The HDR art is well done but I wish they’d left the line art out, it doesn’t have the same look, but I guess that’s the point. Rose tinted glasses of plugging quarters into a WW machine at my blocks’ 7-11 in Albuquerque as a kid factor in a lot too
Btw Jerry, do you have a ASUS monitor? I think you said you have a 360, don’t know if you have a monitor though- I have one now and can bring it to the next tourney if you wanna dedicate it to 3s casuals so I don’t have to drag out my TV and ps2. Also, Matt told me today you have an Alpha 3 cab? I’d love to see pics of it, A3 is my favorite old school SF
i still never do the revised spd motion. i actually hate that you HAVE to do it for rbg in HDR. i don’t have an ASUS monitor, just 8 or so regular tvs. i also have a ps2 and anniversary collection, just let me know what everyone needs brought down and provided i can get a ride or something to haul everything i can bring whatever along. speaking of tvs, my coworker just got a 33 inch tv he wants to give me, and i super don’t have room for it at my place but i will hold it for one of you guys if you want to claim dibs.
i’ll take some pics of my cab tomorrow if i have time. i’m going to convert it to MAME but it is still fun to play A3 on it even though one of the sticks needs work. so how do you play A3 joe, v-ism crouch cancels and stuff?
Ahh well if you guys want I can bring my ASUS monitor for people anyway, sadly no console to go with it. I thought you had a 360 with 3s:OE? Otherwise if you wanna bring an SDTV I can bring my hacked ps2 + games, I just want to make sure all the 3s heads have a setup. Also, I can hack a memory card for you if you want, if you don’t already have one. I dislike the revised SPD motion because it makes it too easy for just anyone to use Gief/Hawk. Hey it might be scrubby but I find 360s in SF2 difficult to do consistently, standing 360s are hard. I still managed to perfect some random guy from France who challenged me in SF2:WW on supercade the other day with Zangief- World Warrior Gief is so bad xD. Took a few losses vs Ryu before I was able to beat him lol
Give the TV to whoever needs it, we’re set.
Maybe in 2003 haha, I was pretty good with Ryu’s V-ism combo then (VC1 (activate lp+lk) f+mk, c.mk, qcf+hp, f+mk, c.mk, qcf+hp repeat VERY FAST).
I used to play A3 at Nickel City and at the Brunswick Zone in Naperville back then… now I just play casually but I’ve played it forever and use everybody and really love the style of the game…no crazy Vism stuff for me anymore, but my favorite char in that game is Karin Kanzuki. I generally pick A-ism for everyone. The only char I really use Vism is Charlie and just do his HK Flash Kick in the corner with VC1 which is pretty simple shit (lp+lk). In Vism all charge moves become instant so you can just tap d, u+k and have it come out. Also, most people dont know this but V-ism Charlie is the only char in the game with a dash (f,f).
Bridgett wanted me to mention that SFA3 is her favorite game. Triumph or die. xD She learned SF by netplaying with me for hours on end on FBA when she lived in California so it was her first SF.
A-ism charlie can dash too. i do have a 360 and 3SOE i just thought you were wondering if anyone else also plays the ps2 version.
carlos i’m listening to preschtale now, pretty awesome stuff
