This gif sums up the anticlimactic nature of Mighty 9’s release.
for shame.
Nah, guys. Don’t blame Capcom for this. This is all Inafune and his team’s doing. LMAO
I’m hestiatant to blame his team. Inti Crates are his team. They are also the co-developers of Half Genie Hero and the team IGA hired for Bloodstained. Those games are looking great.

Yeah I want to get that sometime, never sat down and completed old school MM games, that wave just passed me by.
Watching GameXplain’s 3 hour livestream from earlier. I just can’t get over how fucking ugly this game is, like everything just looks like a mediocre PS2 game.
He also started off saying the combat wasn’t bad like others in here but that quickly grew to annoyance. Like multiple chat boxes on the screen blocking falling ledges on the screen resulting in a death for example.
Where the fuck did that money go.

It’s funny that this cost more than 10x what shovel knight did.

Well, Inafune did make the backers his bitches.
You’re forgetting Comcept.
Honestly, I’m 4 bosses in, and objectively the game isn’t that bad. Granted, my expectations were really low, but there are some things that this game does right. My thoughts so far (PS4 BTW):
Pros:
- Some of the boss fights are really well thought out (Dyna, Countershade)
- Level design is decent overall. I really liked the gimmick in Countershade’s stage, and Seismic’s stage was a good example of “tough but fair”
- Challenge stages are well made
- Controls feel tight and responsive
- So far the weapons all feel useful in their own right. Weapon energy is restored over time or when enemies are absorbed, so there’s plenty of incentive to try out your new toys after winning a fight
- I like the fact that defeated bosses help you out in other stages. It feels like a natural progression of the mechanic in X1.
- Boss weaknesses are more involved than just “extra damage”, often helping out in other ways. Feels closer to MM8 in that regard
- Haven’t noticed any slowdown whatsoever
- Steve Blum nailed Wolverine Countershade’s VA
Cons:
- Presentation still could use a lot of polish
- Music volume seems so unnecessarily low. I can barely hear the main melody half the time, and this is AFTER tweaking the settings
- I still think the ‘dash to kill enemies’ is whack. For the most part it works fine, but there are situations where it can easily get you killed (i.e. slipping on the ice stage).
- Certain bosses (read: Pyro) could use better tells. When he starts running forward I feel like I’m about to eat a 50/50 ambiguous mixup
- Plot is kinda campy
- Lighting could be better in some instances. Towards the beginning of the Cryo stage, there’s a section where the water is so dark that you can barely make any of the platforms out
- There’s a frustratingly bad moment in Dyna’s stage where you’re informed about a movement mechanic for the first time in a situation that results in instant death if you screw it up. You essentially have to position Beck as close as possible to said death trap and dash under it with the precision of a surgeon…twice in a row. If you screw it up, time to redo that section with the lives you have left.
- Spikes don’t care about your hit invincibility. It’s not uncommon to get bumped by an enemy right into a spike wall…
- You can’t change weapons in the pause menu which kinda sucks
- The game suffers from “too many buttons” syndrome. Weapon switching shouldn’t take more than a single button press, and the “special action” function feels completely unnecessary.
If I could summarize the game in one sentence: it plays better than it looks. It has its issues, but for a $20 platformer it’s fairly decent.
thoughts
I’ve only beat Cryo and Shade. I got to Dyna (her fight is fun), Military guy.
Really? Maybe it’s because I had the right weapon on-hand (which makes both the stage and boss drop multiple tiers in difficulty), but once I figured the gimmick out, I was able to quickly hunt him down. The stage didn’t even last that long for me; after a few screens, I was able to trigger the battle.

I think the game is ok. but I have played way better games on steam for 20 bucks. I think this game isn’t worth more than 10 bucks IMO. It’s got some positives, but it’s nothing special, and the dash through mechanic is annoying and stupid. I am a backer, but I am not bitter about it. PS how do you unlock the gold backer suit? I want to roll in style while I finish this game.

Look at how nice that concept art is
Oh well. These things happen.
If you have that much money to spend on a freaking VIDEO GAME, you damn well should also have your own travel expenses n shit paid for. Regular people that would have to enter a contest to achieve that would need travel expenses. Not mega rich nerd who won’t spend it on something much more worthwhile.
If you’re spending that much money you should also have money to rent a Skyline and ride Inafune around in it at a drift race.

What a damn shame. Considering a significant portion of my childhood was spent enjoying Megaman games and even drawing the characters/ designing my own bosses etc… it’s really disappointing to see how someone who contributed to that level of joy could fail so hard wat what he’s been doing for nearly 3 decades.
Welp, at least I can take solace that I didn’t throw any money at the game.
The “Inafundme” wiki revisions page is pure gold.

He should have played megaman 2 again before making this game, to understand what makes a good game
He would somehow make himself pay himself 4 million dollars just to play mega man 2 again. 8 million if it’s rockman 2.
