SUP WICHITA ?
peter, what illwill ment by the dojo is coming over to my house beside andy’s MY HOUSE is the only place that has games going EVERYDAY. you ought to come over more offten. now let me set the recoord straight. in november we will put on the biggest tournament wichita has ever seen. it will be ps3 and open to any one thats wants to play. there will be sponsers this time. which means large cash prizes and gifts.
as of now sf4, tekken 6, blaz blue, and more to be announced. in 2 weeks there will be a post up with all the info. peter get at me asap !!! illwill if i remember rite your lili got done !!! im jus sayin tho. peter, illwill hit me asap ! lets make this happen.
lol, don’t listen to rex, cause i do go to tourney’s :).
illwill - the midwest sucks because we don’t have a big enough pool of talent.
devil - the problem is getting enough entries and a big pot in a town that has no background with sf. for example…i’d say stl has a decent sf background, we’ve been holding monthly’s for a while. even stl has trouble getting out of towners to show up. like why try to get east/west coast to come when we can’t even get the rest of the midwest to come. it’s like reaching for the stars when you can’t even reach the top of a tree.
and exposing ourselves to the rest of the midwest isn’t gonna make the midwest better. it’s not about exposing yourselves. you can get good even if it’s just 2 or 3 people playing eachother. the internet makes this possible, watching videos, reading strategies and comboes, etc. look at AKA and 4gottenkazama, they got to national level playing each other. it’s possible. exposing yourself to other playstyles and better players help you gain experience, yes. but to actually get BETTER, it takes creativity, good mindset, ability to read opponents, good execution. this is all shit you can’t just learn by playing somebody, this is all up to you.
we just need more talented players. players who have the drive and knowledge to be able to learn and adapt and execute.
i’ve played against a lot of people who play standard by the book style. if they do this, i do that style. no. i’ll beat you everytime. it’s about learning your opponents habits, finding counters. gathering information about the other player WHILE you play.
i hate to say it but a lot of people flowchart this game. i know flowcharting is a scrubby term but it’s true. flowcharting can only get you so far. i know people laugh at the ken flowchart bullshit and that’s the most extreme version of the flowchart. but really think about the idea of flowchart. you have a predetermined thing you’re gonna do depending on the previous situation. there’s no LEARNING or adaptation involved, it’s just do this when he does that or…do this when i land this throw.
we have too much flowcharting in the midwest to get better.
There is talent. Lots of it. The sad thing is though, you might never meet them. No one likes to drive 6 hours plus to get somewhere when it’s easier to do things at home or over the net. It’s just the times we live in now.
I don’t understand the phenomenon fully myself, but it exists. How do you approach it; how do you bring out more players; how do you convince people it’s worth coming to a tournament to play people – that’s the million dollar question.
walmart and blockbuster has signed on to help with the tournament. there’s talk of giving away madcatz fightsticks & ps3 systems & games etc. I should know sumthing solid in the next week or so. WICHITA, LETS DO THIS !!!
As I recall I went to your house and was doing people up with lili, then fought you later on and went 1-1 when we stopped. Its all good though, i dont play tekken nor really get into it much at this point. Looking forward to 6 though.
All trash talk aside, This sounds really good with the sponsors and what not. Once we get more specifics I’ll try and hit up some resources to get more coverage across the interwebs.
PS - I thought we were talking about the same Andy (Maybe the andy i know isn’t engaged, but he did have a gf that worked up at the mall, same dude?)
