Microsoft Windows 10 thread

@Darksakul think of it like drinking & driving. Maybe you don’t even drink. Maybe you drink, but don’t drive. Many you drink & drive, but you don’t get drunk and stay under the limit. Maybe you don’t GAF and do it anyway. But the thing is, it affects you in some way whether you know it or not.

Exact same scenario with spying and erosion of privacy. It might affect you, it might not, but do you really want the possibility of it? Like, if the laws governing driving under the influence were loosened because of some corporate loophole you would care even if you don’t drink because you still share the same roads with everyone else. The Internet is the exact same way. Everyone shares it, and even if you think “Oh no one wants to hack me!! I got nothing” well, your machine acting as a relay for a bot network or some shit can affect people who really do have things to protect. Also, social tolerance against being spied on decreases, so today it’s Microsoft, which you may be cool with, but tomorrow it will be your university, religious organization, employer, insurance company, potential lender, etc. and so on.

So it does affect you, directly and indirectly, and I do not think that the “tinfoil” joke is applicable here.

Well for everyone saying “I am not going to get Windows 10 because of the NSA”, how many of you have a Apple iPhone? An Android Phone with GPS? operate their PC without some firewall protection?
If you are worried about privacy, it can be a concern, but if you going go into the extreme deep end and I an not going to apologize for the tin foil joke. Lets be real here.

If you want to talk about the spy game, its some scary ass shit, and if you read about the history of spying you can understand the paranoia the DoD and NSA has for the security measures (it does not justify the illegal wire tapping of every american citizen). Like how the NSA banned Furrbies because they fear the toys could be recording and listening devices. You should read up on The Great Seal bug, which there is a replica in the National Cryptologic Museum, there a wooden wall decoration where the listening device inside has no power supply and no transmitter get it still listen in on whats going on (it works on a similar concept as RFID tags).

Realistically no one going to go to those extremes to listen into a private citizen, its not feasible or economic.
Now the bugging of emails and electronic communication is a thing but blaming Win 10 becomes a witch hunt that doesn’t get results. How many of you are concern with pirvacy and spying but never ran a Malware-scanner tool like Spyware S&D or Malware Bytes or Hijack this? If the answer is no then my joke stands.

I haven’t had any anti virus software on my computer since 2012. The only protection I have is that Windows Defender (Windows 7)

I haven’t gotten hacked. That anti-virus bullshit is exactly that, bullshit!

The way people talk about hiding from the NSA, you would think they’re terrorists with something to hide.

ISIS communication was discovered through terrorists chatting on PS4s. They can find you if they really want to no matter what you do to prevent it. If you ain’t doing dumb shit, don’t see the point of constant paranoia over who’s ‘spying’ on you. This is the world we live in.

I really just don’t want to burn my upload/download/processing power just giving some mega corporation data on me.

I’m not asking for an apology. Just informing you that you’re a part of the same environment as the people you’re making fun of because they’re trying to protect us all.

For the record I’ve been heavily concerned about government snooping since the days of Echelon being revealed back in the 1980’s. Back when CALEA was passed and Carnivore and D.I.R.T. was being used by the FBI. Funny how those methods have now become completely indiscriminate just like we figured they would. I’m not too eager to see how much further we can slide.

Can we have a separate PARANOIA thread and let this thread just be the Windows 10 thread?

How much is there to say about Windows 10 otherwise?

The privacy is my only concern unless you wanna talk about how retarded it is to force v-sync in the desktop environment.

There’s A LOT to say about Windows 10.

Unfortunately the majority of people that come in here don’t even have Windows 10, and only talk about paranoia heresay and things they read. It’s been out for about 4 months… it would be wise for people to update what they know about it, because a lot of the shit they think Windows 10 does has been debunked a long time ago. Microsoft has released about 2 cumulative updates per month, covering their tracks and changing things lowkey.

I don’t put any stock in anyone saying Windows 7 runs faster than Windows 10 under any circumstance. A friend and I clean installed Win 7 and Win 10 on two identical rigs last month. W10 ran faster and it wasn’t even close. I honestly have no idea how people are not noticing the speed difference immediately.

I’m onboard with that train of thought but it’s still sending your data out and I don’t like that. If I could get rid of that I’d upgrade in an instant.

I’m not gonna upgrade to win 10 until KI on PC is available. Curious how well the cross platforming with XBL turns out.

I think that’ll be my tipping point as well… as long as its still a free upgrade around that time.

Once you have the update downloaded and the invite, I believe it’s still free. If you don’t reserve it before then, depending on the time frame you may be SOL and have to pay.

Has this been posted yet?

I finally got my windows 10 upgrade. My version of windows 7 ain’t legit so I’m weary of updating.

Get a non legit 10. They still can’t tell. No-lose situation.

Enable This Setting to Make Windows 10 Boot Up Faster

anyone tried this yet?

That setting is on by default.

Yup, Windows 10 wakes up crazy fast on SSD.

How long did the upgrade take? Thinking about letting it run overnight tonight.
