Microsoft TRIED to renew Killer Instinct but their application got denied because Fox TV currently own the trademark for a cancelled TV show.

It’s Rare’s fault for not acting sooner on this.

It’s not the legislation that’s messed up. A brand name is worth good money. Call your game “Street Fighter” and people will care about it.

I could swear not even a few months ago I read someone bitching because Rare wanted to renew the license but microsoft didn’t.

I say fuck it, Build the game, change it to “Instincts of a Killer” Launch it and have a secret character named Fox who starts special moves but never actually launches them. Fox will be the Dan of the game with the exception that he will NEVER be any good…ya know, like most the cast of MK: Armageddon.

Only if they bring back the characters missing in 2 (minus the lame ass bosses), update the fighting system to make it as fluid as the current set of games and keep the create a fatalities.

What is even funny about this, is that the Tv Series Killer Instinct only had 13 episodes but only 9 were broadcasted, lol.

I would play a new KI without any doubt, though the game being a 360 exclusive diminish my interest by a good margin

The strong possibility that we’ll never get KI3, or even a KI1/KI2 re-release, is heart-wrenching. :\

I can’t imagine Microsoft would want to buy it with other options. They could work around the name or they could just wait for the Fox trademark to expire as I cannot imagine Fox would renew it for a series with no interest. I’m not sure how long trademarks last in the US but the work around name is probably more viable.

It won’t stop them doing whatever they are doing with the franchise if they are developing a new game or working on HD versions for XBLA. Its just a name which they will either change or wait on. If it is a new game I expect they want it as an exclusive launch title for the next console. Either way they probably won’t wait too long for Fox’s TM to just expire so a work around on the name is more likely.

If it is XBLA then they could probably be able to call it Killer Instinct HD. If it is a new title then it would be a reboot so they would want to call it something along the lines of just “Killer Instinct”.
