That would be the equivalent of saying that people don’t play SNK games because of one broken character who has a 1 frame startup for a super which links into itself; when that isn’t the case. Aren’t SNK games better balanced overall?
Not like Cable’s being in the game is any good reason to use as as singular excuse for not playing MvC2.
I think the reason people piss and moan about SNK has to do with the fact that they have a fundamental hatred for the button layout; especially at Wizzards.
ABCD is strange IMO. Other arcades have the better layout I’d say:
AB
CD
aka
PP
KK
even
PK
PK
would be better than 4 across.
Its not that the Capcom/Tekken players don’t play SNK because of “Terry the Terrible” or whoever. Chances are, if there was a broken character in the game, the Capcom/Tekken players would abuse the hell out of it. I just think that Capcom/Tekken peeps just jive better with the alternate layout.
I bought my Neo-Geo in 1990 (old man)…4 button layout just takes some getting used to like anything else. Peeps like Juan, Joe, TECHNO, etc. don’t seem to have a problem switching between the two…neither do I. Senator Ivy plays excellent on an XBox controller…I despise the thing…but I’m sure I could adapt, I just don’t want to…which is kinda my point in replying to CM’s post.
If someone doesn’t like Cable in MVC2 and chooses not to play it, so what? Do they have to be called a pussy? If thats the case, if you don’t play SNK because of the 4 button layout and you choose not to play SNK, so what? Does that also mean your a pussy? That appeared to be the message CM was trying to convey and I thought it was a silly thing to say.
A person plays what they like, who am I (or anybody else for that matter) to say that Vegas is a wuss because he plays Namco/Tekken? Who am I to say CM is a fag because he plays Capcom and Sammy/GGXX? Could go on and on.
As far as SNK games balance, it depends on the game, just like with Capcom. They’ve made some serious pieces of trash (Real Bout Special was broke as fuck), and games that just weren’t very good, like KOF 2000, but they’ve also made really good games like Sam Sho Special or KOF 2002.
The button layout does take some getting used to, but then you see the fucking BIZARRE layout for the guilty gear games, and all of a sudden, every button layout on any game ever made seems normal.
I said one game was a better competitive game, and it’s true. In Japan, KOF 2002 is considered the best KOF for competition play, which is why alot of KOF 98 players there moved to 2k2, and 2k3 players went back to 2k2. The gap between top tiers and the rest of the cast is fairly small, and all the top characters have at least one counter. It may not have alot in way of fan service, backgrounds, or music, but gameplay wise it is the most diverse KOF, and thus, the most popular in Japan. They also play Real Bout over there as well, and the simple fact is that Real Bout Special IS broke as fuck. Obvious God tier(Kim) characters, combos that do ridiculous amounts of damage, shit like that. RBS may be fun if youre just playin around with friends, and it certainly has the fanboy aspect that KOF 2002 didn’t, but the simple fact is that the game is absolute shit.
Best, shut the hell up, damn bum. Your whole post is a reflection upon YOU. I don’t know what goes on in that dome head of yours but, you better stop thinking that you are the best at Wizzards 'cause you’re not, boy. And don’t tell me to “calm down”. I’m always calm so, leave the “crack” alone, you hear me, boy? Maybe if you practice to increase your pathetic skills then, you might get somewhere.
Ali Vegas, the legendary, and still a trashy bum. You will ALWAYS be at the bottom of the barrel at Wizzards. Why do you even come to Wizzards if you can’t play shit, boy? Everytime you get your ass beat in a game, I can’t help but to laugh at trash like you for always running your mouth about how you and your “bum bashers” run Wizzards. How can you call yourself a “bum basher” when you’re ALWAYS getting bum bashed on? What you need to do is stick to your internet-thuggery and stop getting your bummy ass beaten in EVERY GAME YOU PLAY. You understand me, boy?
They play anyhting in Japan because they got a load more games to choose from than us at good ole Wizzard’s KOF 2002 is shit too to be totally honest compared to American’s and anyone who even looked at it in Wizzard. It’s hard to find anyone who even respects a SNK cabinet besides myself and ROBO. SNK games were all stupid as hell after Mark of the Wolves. Gamplay wise and mechanics, it’s been proven and that’s all I really have to say about it. I’d play anything SNK/Playmore Circa 2000.
To more important news. I have my Spider-Man tickets for tomorrow, gotta see that the first day. I’m also going this weekend as well.
NeoGeo 4 button, maybe, since it’s a drop-A; Wizzards has that straight-across BS layout, where normally your thumb would go, now your pointer finger has to go. Failing that, you have to cock your hand to the side.
So you’re saying that KOF 97, 99, and 2000 were all great games? Are you going to say that Art of Fighting was great too? No. Those games sucked.
The fact Japan has more games to choose from just shows how GOOD those games are. In Japan, bad games aredumped damn fast. Guilty Gear Isuka has had almost no players within weeks of its release. The fact that KOF 2002, Real Bout 2, or the last two Samurai Shodowns (5 and Special) see as much play as they do, in such a highly competitive market, should just say how good people consider them.
And how has Matrimelee, 2k2, Sam Sho 5, how have these all sucked? I want to hear your reasons. Gameplay reasons.
You should talk to beelzebubble over here or fierceslash. He lives in fucking Japan, and he can tell you exactly what they, people who actually DO play SNK games competitively, think about a game. What strategies they use. What characters are good. I’d trust them alot more then I’d trust anyone in america, because no one plays it seriously in america, and as such no one knows shit about the games. Wong won KOF 2k3 using a duolon tactic that was shut down in Japan months ago, yet no one knew how to get around it here. What does that say?
Not to disrespect you dude, but you’re coming off sounding like one of those fanboys who are convinced everything made by the old SNK is fantastic, and everything Playmore’s made is shit. And those people are fucking idiots, because they can’t take a game on it’s own merits.
None taken, but…That’s exactually what I’m saying. If I’m a"fanboy" for knowing that Playmore games are trash in my and many others opinions they hey, so be it. And Art of Fighting always sucked.
But to each his own as alwasy, so I’ll leave it there. I don’t care about games enough for it to be a huge debate. When does that Chris Benoit DVD come out?
And I gotta pick up Spider-Man 2, the game look slike it’s pure crack so I can imagine playing it.
We can all agree that Terry the Terrible is hilarious
I don’t pass judgement on the playmore era games just because of when they were made. I’d prefer to take them on their own merits. It’s my view they’ve made some of the best games on the neo geo in their era. Yeah, they’ve made bombs too, but the old SNK did too, and every other game company in existence has as well. Sides, they’re releasing the slug games on affordable consoles, and that can never be bad Now if only they’d put out a classic collection for Live, with Sam Sho 2, fatal fury special, galaxy fight, waku waku 7, and other sweet games.
As for Benoit, it’s scheduled to come out July 27th, which is way too far off for my tastes. The Flair DVD just reiterated in my mind how great old wrestling matches can be, especialy compared so some of the shit they’ve had lately, like, say, JBL vs anyone. Who the hell thought he needed the title?
