RED-DEVIL-NINJA: At first when I read your post I was like who the hell is Reddevilninja, but now I know.
Anyway plz man, i’ll tell you exactly what goes on when I play in wizards. At first I try to play normally, but the more I play it seams the worse off I get. I try to do moves and combos I know I can hit, but the more times that they dont come out, the more likely I am to stop attempting them. Eventually it gets to the to which Ive been punished for attempting a move so many times that I just stop, and at that point I start turtleing.
Plz T, dont a big head, if I gain a loss in wizards most likely its not because of my opponent, usually its because of my shitty execution.
But anyway: T, I herd Julian saying something about 360’s and new buttons for wizards, he mentioned your name do you know what he is talking about?
LMFAO!!! WTF IS WRONG W/ YOU KEVIN?!@ JCBUNCH!!!
100% cosign.
For real? WTF is your problem w/ Obot?
IMO, Obot gets a bad wrap here for no good reason.
Word.
And how is what you go through any different than what the rest of us went through? You aren’t any different than any one of us that learned how to play fighting games. Except you give up. All the time. You are unwilling to do what it takes to get better. That is my #1 beef with you: You want the easy way out. You practice RCing a DP, before you practice a DP. That makes no sense to me, other than you are trying to get wins with the least amount of effort. Ain’t gonna happen. You take the easy way out, and it sickens me. The reason I feel this way is because you came to me for advice on you getting better, and you seem like you expected some magical advice that would skyrocket your skill (skill) to another level. ANYONE that you consider good got good by practicing the basics, either casually, or hardcore. You are no different than them, Obot. Take the long road. There are no shortcuts, man. That bridge is out. I look forward to the day you realize that, and you reach you full potential.
Don’t be so damn quick to quit. Its not like your alternative is winning, anyway.
I give up all the time? No, I dont think Ive ever given up, although a lot of times I get disheartened. When have you seen me give up?
I’m unwilling to do what it takes to get better? What exactly does it take? If I knew why wouldnt I do it? so tell me in detail, what do you think?
Hollow, the only issue I take with your advice is that you use words that are far too general for me to actually get anything out of what you say. Often times you post things like, “practicing the basics” or “You need to learn the basics” and “you need a foundation” etc etc etc. Very rarely do I find people that are willing to explain what the basics are.
Am I a quitter? if I am this is news to me.
One rule of basics: Find out what button does what with each character.
Not being an ass…this time. But my example is, know the lenght and/or combo ability of each button with the desired character. Find out if their standing fierce or ducking short is anti-air, or can hit Bison or Blanka after ANYTHING! In other words, find the characters Priority. Then move on to what special move is good for what. Gotta go to work, just wanted to contribute.
That is giving up. Giving up knowing how and when to do any particular move. Gaining experience.
Here you go, in detail: and plz, if anyone thinks I am wrong, or would like to add to it, feel free.
First of all, Definitions…
The basics: not just simply knowing your characters special moves, supers, normals, The range of sadi attacks. Also knowing how to effectively use them in combos, as pressure tactics, zoning, and keepaway strategies.
Practicing: repeatedly doing one or 2 aspects of a characters attacks, whether it be special moves, or normal attacks into special moves, for example ducking middle kick buffered to a fireball (sound familiar)?
Foundation: The entire collection of knowledge that one has gained over the years, usually stemming from hours of playing various video games when one had little or no responsibility. This general knowledge usually carries over from game to game more than Ryu’s white gi.
Figuring out how a character is designed to be played, based on his/her normal attacks, special moves, supers, etc.
Example: if a character doesn’t have a fireball, chances are it isn’t a keepaway character, if they are a charge char, they probably aren’t built for rushdown. These rules aren’t set in stone by any means, yet I have rarely seen them broken in 2D games.
Example:Grapplers with a fireball/projectile.
When you asked me, and I suggested you simply practice doing ducking MK to fireball, what was “general” about that??? That was a specific suggestion. What did you say after you tried to practice that? “it got boring” in other words, you gave up. You quit. Why? Too hard.
When you stop looking for the easy way around things, you’ll really make leaps and bounds over alot of ppl, Brian. I just see it happening. So I leave this question to you. When?
LOL… well Hollow if he stopped doing cr MK into Fireball…
it was probably due to me… cuz cr MK fireball is bad in CvS2 as opposed to other games. You can roll it and punish Ryu or Ken for free. You can Super/RC between it.
Cuz I remember when Obot first came to AA… he did that shit and kept giving me free combos… I was like… “you know you shouldn’t be doing that cuz it is getting you hit”.
You basically mentioned some stuff that is the basics. But IMO… the best method to play a fighting game. DON’T DO SHIT THAT GETS YOU HIT and PUNISH YOUR OPPONENT’S MISTAKES. Just keep a mental note… if shit gets you hit, you prolly shouldn’t be doing it.
As far as landing a hit… that goes with the level of player, the better the player, the better he is at creating situations to land hits. When you play a good player, no matter what fighting game, they aren’t going to do dumbshit to get themselves hit. Thats my take. To get better at this, you just gotta get better at reading your opponent. To do that, hell if I fucking know, I suck, I just practice RC and glitches all day (cuz that what it really takes to be good, not what I said above). Ask someone else.
I agree. I was mostly telling him to practice at home, anyways.
Hey Robo, I got your PM abotu Naruto 2. That’s just my luck. I already ordered it because Bob told me he probably won’t get anymore:mad: Dammit, well it’ll be here by the end of next week, that’s when I would have had the money for it anyway. Ah well.
You wanna talk serious rivalries, nothing comes close to me, Kevin, and our boy Sean.
Julian was talking about me buying some 360’s for Wizzards and installing them. I have two but I don’t like them at all. Most likely they are from the bad batch that Happ controls ship out. Hopefully in a couple of weeks. Depending on T.K.K. keeping these tournies running. Other than that it wouldn’t be worth it.
Shinkarai, Hollow, C_M… good detailed advice. ill take it as being advice for the general mass of gamers comin up, on how to master the basics of any fighting game. with that ill say thx for the info
Re: Hello!

Re: Re: Hello!
Have you guys tried networked mario kart? It’s freaking awesome, and a fun alternative to Halo. Somehow the game gets 50 times better networked.
My buddy Phil is looking to play new people at Halo, maybe I’ll send him up your way next time you guys run it
Cityhunter- best things to read are www.sirlin.net and the seth killian articles in SRK. IMO, its gold. most of the shit I say stems from those sources. Ed doesn’t have good advice. He is a cheater. Last time we played, he kicked me in the shin, and then threw my character.

check PM for Riddick avatar or see attached.
Lemme know about changes.
EDIT: c_m …u were absolutely right about GGI…ugh.
Also: Rick James found dead. To old timers like me…this is tramatic.:wasted:
The first thing obot said when he met me was “how can I get free hard drives from you.” Obot’s first and last interests are Obot. Obot is like Dominic; you leave them alone, and then after a while they just call you out with some stupid attempt at wit, to which they are not equipped.
So, you hung out with Obot a lot at LTU, did you.
Here we go:
This is a nice example. You’re not better than him, he simply hasn’t overcome the hurdle of manual coordination. CVS2 is his natural talent, you see, whereas with you, it is a much struggled at task. Oh, the plight of the prole is one filled with travesty. Oh sea, oh sea.
There’s a good analysis. The only difference between this and my take is that I don’t look forward to the day Obot comes into his own; I’m not an optimist.
As for doing “more productive” things, I apologize that I’m focusing more on pointing out the logical fallacy of having issues to solve, yet do nothing towards that end. Unlike other people (not you, Cheese; I’ve never met you, but we’ll hope they know who they are) I don’t badmouth obot here and then when it actually matters keep quiet. I say these things here, and I say them to his face, because they’re true. Maybe if Obot was a bit more reverent of people’s hobbies as a class and a bit more respectful for people as a whole, he’d have that “RESPECT” that he’s striving so weakly after.
Then again, some people are just cheap, period.
