Metal Gear SOLID Thread: Snake? SNAAAAKE!

The suppressor refills and ammo were pretty scarce on European Extreme (mgs3) but in other games they were everywhere. That is probably why the max rank in MGS4 was more or less a joke compared to other games. No suppression refills to worry about and mk2 ammo was plentiful throughout. I do admit MGS1 sounds much easier with the FPS view now that I think about it.

The MGS2 engine killed Twin snakes because the AI remained the same as MGS1, and MGS1 just wasn’t built with Tranq in mind so the game became stupid easy on all difficulties.

I would also say the same thing about the camera switch in MGS3:Subsistence.

It wasn’t adjusted for the third person view and it made everything around you visible, which kind of ruins the game. Fortunately you can still go the the options and switch back to the original Snake Eater camera.

I don’t remember which version of MGS3 is on the HD collection, but changing camera type is as easy as clicking the right stick down. You can go 3D or classic camera style.

Back when I originally played it, I could deal with the fixed camera. I can’t do that shit anymore though. It annoys me. I feel like its more enjoyable with the movable camera. Also, I’m kind of surprised that by the third game, kojima didn’t figure out that special ops soldiers don’t have a fucking T-Rex stance with hand guns. Its about the silliest thing I’ve ever seen.

didnt they change snakes bnb in twin snakes? did he do the spin kick or was it a S.hK after the punch combo

twin snakes was pretty easy, mgs2 mechanics in mgs1 didnt work too well…lol

I disagree with this completely. MGS3 was built for the Subsistance Camera we just didn’t get it till the Subsitance version. Guards can see much much much farther in MGS3, the old camera system was a massive hindrance in that game, while the update camera makes it into a brilliantly wonderful game. You spend a lot of time getting spotted by shit you can’t see because it’s way off screen unless you really lay on the FPS button. The old MGS series camera is terrible in Snake Eater most of the time, there are places where it works out great for the player, mostly when infiltrating Grosni Grad.

Also you can switch between the Snake Eater Camera and the Subsitance Camera any time you want by pressing in the R3 button.

Edit: Also mulling it over a bit more, from a cinematic and story perspective there’s some shit in Twin Snakes that really bothers me. The jumping off a missile shit and it’s ilk, I’m pretty over that, it doesn’t bother me anymore, especially in a series that now has shit like a woman back fliiping a motorbike off someones face, it just doesn’t really get to me anymore (tho the density of this kind of sillyness is kinda grating). What does still really bother me tho is Snake doing stuff like pointing his gun at Bakers head cuz the old guy forgot Meryls codec number. It’s so out of character, even within the game itself. Snake would never point a gun at an unarmed old man who just had his arm broken in brutal torture. TTS really turned Snake into an asshole. I mean sure he was kind of a jerk loner before, but in TTS he’s a real d-bag. He treat Otacon like shit during the game. When he lifts him off the ground when going over Rex’s real purpose in the lab he shakes the guy like he’s trying to give him SIDs, and later in the cell he shakes the guy again and then throws him to the ground. If TTS where my intro to Metal Gear and I moved right onto MGS2, I’d really have no clue why him and Otacon are best friends, Snakes a douche to him in TTS.

I guess it’s just funny that out of all the wacky shit in TTS, it’s the smaller stuff that ended up bugging me the most.

Wow, someone actually like the original camera system in MGS3?

I agree, that bit was kind of outta left field in the middle of MGS3. But it didnt bother me initially because I’ve seen worse from a video game.

Example:

Honestly though, that should’ve killed ocelot. You get hit in the face with a Motorcycle from the WW2-Vietnam Era, your brain pretty much just turned into jelly. Those things are fucking heavy.

SE camera made the game an ultimate slow stealth challenge

Subsistence camera makes it fall asleep easy

Yea if you play on kindergarten mode and use the tranq gun sure.

It should say something that the ability to have competent sight lines apparently makes a game too easy.

If you want difficult play MGS2 EE.
Only truly hard MGS game.

I dont believe in limiting a game to try and force a false sense of difficulty.

The svd to tranq gun instant headshot shit breaks MGS3

I do when not doing so makes the game no fun, especially in a game made of nothing but options like MGS3. Nothing quite so boring as being tossed into a sandbox and then making nothing but bucket sand castles cuz it’s the easy thing to do.

Big part of why I say the tranq guns shouldn’t be in this series. Least they look to be attempting to try and nerf them for the newer games. Hopefully they make the darts damn near impossible to find to.

Except he shouldn’t be finding Tranq Darts on site anyway.

Give him a Tranq Gun with around 2-3 clips and that’s all he gets during the entire game.

Enough to give him a decent backup but in reality, any of the three “protagonists” at this point (Solid Snake if he ever gets another game, Big Boss, Raiden) should be more than sufficiently able to move through areas without being spotted while not using any implements.

MGS4 BBE got the tranq shit right, but they gave you like 900 tranq type weapons and bullets.

If you use R3 to switch between the cameras, you won’t be able to lock the view like you can in SE. Going into the options and toggling it fixes that.

I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.

You see, the developers had a reason for making the camera the way it was in SE.

Corner-peaking doesn’t even have a place in Subsistence where everything can be seen from around the corner. That’s one example of how it fails the original design.

No the camera is the way it was in Snake Eater because they where lazy and Kojima gets motion sick.

There’s a great Snake bit @ 5:42 (although the entire thing is gold)
