MGS5 is just pointless story wise. It added nothing. The few extra scenes in the true ending are probably the best part of the game, and even then it was done horribly and rushed. Game definitely needed another year to finish up.
What’s the point of Skullface? He didn’t do anything. He was done better in GZ, and he had even less screen time in that game than he did in MGS5TPP.
Zero being a veggy in MGS4 is better explained with him just being old as fuck.
Quiet didn’t do anything. If she wasn’t in the game then nothing would have changed.
Volgin, Psycho, Eli are all pointless. They contributed nothing to the story and were just in to be in.
Ocelot…Fuck he do exactly? Oh, right, he was an encyclopedia of Afghanistan and African Wildlife. And the good to Millers bad.
Huey and Miller are the only characters who were needed in a sense, and even their worth is just seeing two people become utter assholes.
Code Talker is only in to be the guy who knows about the shitty parasites, which, by the way, was resolved insanely shitty and was just a shitty plot device. As bad as MGS4 just explaining everything via Nanomachines.
Venom himself was dull. His silence made a lot of scenes awkward as hell I.E him and Skullface talking in the car. What makes it even worse is that Miller and Ocelot just talked for him, they were the Angel and Devil on his shoulder. He just did whatever they said making it look like Venom wasn’t even the god damn boss of MB.
The few scenes we did get are awkward because of long pauses for no apparent reason, or just bad writing. I.E Miller just pauses his sentence for like a minute then continues it. SUCH A LUST FOR REVENGE WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO? And lets not forget the car ride where Skullface just stops talking to hear his girl spit that hot fire, then continues where he left off.
The lack of strong climax comes with there being no real ending fight. Snuffleluffagus Gear is the closest to a final fight, and it doesn’t feel like one. The true ending scene just happens. There is no build up. It just happens.
The resolutions to the points of the story were all weak. It really feels like Kojima wanted to stretch all of the plot points out through more chapters, but had to cut them all short, and left us with a bunch of anticlimactic resolutions.
