Metal Gear SOLID Thread: Snake? SNAAAAKE!

Regarding mission 43

[details=Spoiler]What if i don’t kill any of the infected?

So good - it actually inspired me to do something I’ve wanted to do for a long time.
These days it’s hard to find a game that you can play how YOU want to play…like really personalise the gameplay based on how you want to. Sure some games “pretend” to offer this, but mostly you’re still following what a bunch of other people did too…not coincidently, but because that’s what the game design restricts you to.

With MGS5…I feel I have a lot of freedom and the ability to make choices no other people in the world may have made.

So, with this inspiration, I actually opened my own youtube channel just the other day. I made some really short clips that demonstrate EXACTLY what I’m talking about here. Hope you like it, and I’d appreciate some feedback, even if its negative:

Red beret pink beret whatevs!

Sooo i’m at 93% overall completion and i just saw that i have one of the blueprints glitch.

this is the real phantom pain.

is there a database for MGO2 players?

Im tryna find records of my old character.s

that was awkward to watch, but seeing as snake was the only one who cared about her made sense

got bodied by mission 33 but I remembered I have actually “play” sneaking on that

I’m just going to call this game metal gear WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAA

drebin point reward point whatevs!

fraud detected

I didnt play MGO2 alot, but i never claimed to :pirate:

That sucks, hope they patch it so you blueprints always show up in the missions even if you’ve gotten it.

Found this in a comments section. Probably the first good thing I’ve ever gotten from a yt comment. It’s concerning the ending.

[details=Spoiler]I feel like I’m cheated when i find out i’m not the real Big Boss… just like Venom did…

Save Big boss from explosion.
Lost an eye and arm.
108 foreign pieces embed into me .
Coma for 9 years.
My face is alternated.
Brainwashed.
saved by bandaged man who make jokes at me
I keep seeing his ass
Flaming monster mistakes me for the guy that killed him and won’t get away
Asshole Boss stole my identity and rides off to go relax while the whole word wants me dead
Asshole Boss smoke real cigars assuming vaping is for losers
Asshole boss and his friends used me
Big boss’s asshole son harass me
he stole my giant robot
build up army and feeling good about my self suddenly i remember that I’m actually medic
Forced to living a lie
Asshole Boss build bad ass new base with cool name

i’m dead and asshole Boss used my death as way to sound cool by “returning from the dead”[/details]

dead

After knowing the ending of the game “V has come to” sounds even better than before.

It really shows from the True Ending

Spoiler

That Zero isn’t really that bad of a guy, rather he fucked up with the idea of The Boss’s Will and his idea of Information Manipulation thanks to SIGINT building it and leaving him in charge.

New MGO3 information.

cloak n dagger = tsne

bounty hunter looks like tdm I guess

only 5 maps doe? I REALLY hope they bring back some of the old maps. and skillset is there which is a good thing. and the box better not be completely useless.

The more I listen to The Man Whole Sold the World, the more I feel it gives away the ending if you’re paying attention to the lyrics and the context in which the song is played.

Oh well

So I was on YouTube watching a review, and wrote my own little review cause I felt professional n shit. I’m just gonna copy and paste what I wrote, not awake enough to go and edit.

[details=Spoiler]Well I’ve been reading through the comments and wow, seems like there are some strong opinions and a lot of what I think is over-reacting. I really enjoyed MGSV, it’s been the best gaming experience for me since Dark Souls. It had brilliant stealth gameplay, and it didn’t put a single foot wrong in how it plays. There are negatives definitely and yes they are very easy to identify, but I think a lot of people are jumping on it heavily and disregarding what the game does right entirely. Regardless, this is where I think the game falls short.

Before I start, I think this game is fucking fantastic. But I don’t think it’s quite the true “Metal Gear Solid” experience.

POINT ONE
The Story -
Kojima stated that Big Boss would be talking a lot less in the game, and that we’d see him “Become a demon” throughout the course of the game. I initially took this as a way of saying we’d be seeing Big Boss descend into the villain we eventually confront him as in the MG games with a lot of controversial topics and dark themes visited. Bullshit. The entirety of the game shows barely anything that would solidify that statement save for a SINGLE mission - and Big Boss doesn’t even show any character development when you do it anyway! Big Boss is never in the forefront of it and never showing any character development and generally has no character arc at all. He seems to be a fucking background character half of the time with Miller and Ocelot taking the reigns in terms of both line quantity and character development. This makes the story being told feel hollow and completely void of any involvement from the player. And when you go as far as to remove Hayter and bring in Keifer Sutherland to perform your leading role, he’s barely used. This left a horrible after-taste when beating the game, I felt like Big Boss had gone nowhere and hadn’t developed at all.

And to further Yong’s point about heavy handed writing - one of the cringiest lines in the entire game is where Skull Face first confronts you “You became a demon for weapons such as this?” the became a demon part felt so heavily forced, and Big Boss hadn’t even done anything remotely evil at this point in the story - hell he does nothing evil at all throughout. That line made no sense and felt really out of place.

Onto the next story centric point - the ending. Not going to spoil it but in short - left me completely void of ANY feeling of accomplishment. It makes everything you’ve done feel completely useless in the grand scheme of things. Haven’t actually played since beating it, I am that disappointed with the ending. My FOB is gonna be FUCKED.

POINT TWO
The Latter Half of the Game -
So when I beat “Chapter One” (The bulk of the game) I started to get a…weird vibe from the game. Like I was playing something incomplete. The way things started - cutscenes, missions, everything. Nothing felt like it was polished and everything just felt rough around the edge compared to the first chapter. This became HEAVILY apparent when I saw repeated missions with extra difficulty settings. I was kinda mind-boggled at this and knew the game was coming to a close. Why aren’t these difficulties just selectable for each mission via a slider or something? It seems like they were put into the game just so the mission list would reach 50 missions, honest to god.

It’s very hard to explain without spoiling the story and the games content, but the second chapter is VERY strange, it has an air of incompleteness about it and generally just feels like it was left half made. The cut content doesn’t help either because as Yong states the mission that was cut is SO. FUCKING. CRUCIAL. It ties up quite possibly one of the most batshit story arcs the game has to offer, and it makes zero sense that it was cut and I’m heavily disappointed that it was. Without this crucial mission in the game, players who don’t own the collectors edition and are yet to discover it’s existence will be left mind boggled and grasping at straws as to what the literal fuck happened to _____(Insert the names and whatnot here).

OVERALL -
Fucking masterly crafted gameplay. You won’t find a better playing stealth game IMO. Open world that feels empty, it’s just an interconnected map of small compounds and villages. The story is nothing - I mean NOTHING compared to previous titles, lack of dialogue with Big Boss, quite a soulless antagonist who really isn’t that interesting at all when you delve deeper into his character. A lackluster ending that means well but just doesn’t deliver and cut content that soils the best story arc in the game.

8/10. A masterpiece of a game, but not the story we’ve come to expect from Kojima. I acknowledge he hasn’t wanted to work on MGS for a long time however, and a man who has no desire to work further on something will only gradually become jaded. So it’s expected that the story will never quite hit that high note again.[/details]

36 finally dusted, no idea htf am gonna extract these fuckers tho.
