Metal Gear SOLID Thread: Snake? SNAAAAKE!

It’s not even a matter of the shitty graphics, but that the hand to hand combat in that game is literally Mash A for the Win.

The MSX style graphics aren’t shitty. On a side note, the old graphics makes a different atmosphere.

The game doesn’t have to be confined to the NES era, and it can always borrow elements from other genres or games.

just cause the graphics are charming doesnt make them any less shitty

Case in point:[details=Spoiler]Marvel 2  [/details]

mvc2 has some really shitty graphics when it comes to certain characters. especially the classic morrigan sprite

Replace A with O and that’s how you beat Liquid atop Rex in MGS1

for a series that (used to) prides itself on memorable bosses, mgs has had some shitty boss fights before.

most skillz required to beat MGS boss fights?
I always liked the ones like vamp and the fear

sorrow fight was pretty gay

I am not tryana to die out here which you have to :rage:

I loved the Sorrow “fight”, creepy and atmospheric as fuck the first time

Pretty twisted to be forced to walk down a river seeing all the people you murdered

And that save mini-game was neat too

Hardest boss fight of all time is Psycho Mantis on Extreme with a broken OG PS1 P2 port

Harrier w/Vamp+Solidus probably the most fun fight I don’t mind replaying over and over, also a bastard on Extreme. Solidus shit talk too stronk

I had to look on the internet for help on getting past the Sorrow.

I don’t remember how long I was wandering that river. The spirit camouflage is great.

  • zombie face paint & spirit camouflage 4 ever.

I totally forgot how I figured that out

I think if you keep calling zero/signt/paramedic one of them give you a hint about it

i bought the mgs3 strategy guide with the game cause i used to buy everything metal gear related, so i beat mgs3 without really trying lol :

Beating games like the first Resident Evil or Silent Hill would have been less brutal with the aid of strategy guidebooks.

It appears that some games are designed to screw the player in every fashion.

cant remember re or sh having any “problem couldn’t be solved without a guide book”

it was all in the game. I beat all those games without any internet/book help. but only normal mode. pretty sure there are some whacky puzzles in silent hill games in hard modes(so I hear)

Didn’t find any puzzles or anything that I couldn’t solve in a rather timely manner in RE1-3.

SH on the other hand…I spent like a week trying to figure out the piano puzzle =( I’m probably a scrub tho

i never needed it, i just looked at it cause it was there. wish i hadnt, it kinda ruined the “first run” feel for me

Strategy guidebooks offer more than ways to beat a game, they usually have plenty of interesting facts, art, and complete insight on the game. They are fun to look at and read.

Forget about it. Sometimes in life you just need to take the shortcut or simple way out.

I have an amazing MGS1 guide that I bought with the game back in 98. It wasn’t Brady or prima but I dont recall the company’s name. It had tons of info about the characters and interesting interviews with Kojima and Shinkawa. I should try to find that next time I’m at mom and dads house.

same goes for me. especially if it’s a well written guide, it’s a definite purchase. the umvc3 guide was top notch for me, same with the soul calibur V guide [even though i loathe that installment just because characters… reasons…]

after the game has been beaten, it ends up in the bin LOL.
seriously though, some of them have become coffee table books at my place.

artbooks bundled with special editions of games that you purchase, how do you feel about those?
