Metal Gear Rising thread. Releasing in Early 2013 for PS3 & 360

Pretty sure I heard Phil LaMarr. Although I wouldn’t doubt Khary Payton is involved in this game as well.

Interesting…

Yeah Platinum have a heavy feel when it comes to their combat, gives a great sense of impact, and its very evident in their new game Anarchy Reigns. I do like the smoothness of the original video though.

As badly as I wanted them to make a Shinobi game, I’ll gladly take this as a compromise.

I liked the older one better.

What you liked was a trailer for a game far from being finished designed by a group that only makes stealth action games. If Kojima didn’t think it was going to turn out well then you would have hated it in the end.

I’m just glad that this project wasn’t dropped entirely by Konami and that a triple AAA action developer picked it up. If we completely forget that this was going to be something a bit different and accept it for being another over the top Platinum action game we might all find ourselves a bit excited. I mean who here on SRK didn’t like Bayonetta? Plus the slice anywhere mechanic is still in place which was like the crux of Rising anyway.

I wanted to slice and dice in a stealth game. Having sword mechanics in the world of MGS appealed to me. Bayonetta does not appeal to me, it is a clusterfuck of shit flying all over the screen. Granted, I am in the minority with that opinion.

I hope they don’t remove the non lethal option of the HF Blade

I just noticed this is no longer MGS: Rising, it’s Metal Gear Rising.

Fuck yeah, new entry in the Metal Gear franchise. MG, MGS, MGA and now MGR.

^I don’t see how you can play the same game shown in the trailer with a non-lethal option.

Tenchu?

I get what you are saying but if even Kojima didn’t like where the game was headed… Plus this looks less clusterfucky than Bayonetta. The camera is closer to the character. I’m thinking it’s more like Ninja Gaiden than DMC or Bayonetta.

Check out this link. Rising had no direction, they had the cutting mechanic and couldn’t advance the idea. Rising was going to die until they switched producers and he brought in PlatinumGames.

Word, something must have happened in the development cycle. When I first heard of the game I was hyped, then forgot it was even coming out. Still, DMC/Bayonetta I consider a completely different genre, so I was irked after seeing the updated game. Oh well I will still buy it lol.

Apparently, what happened was, they had nothing. Only the cutting mechanic. Nothing else compelling or interesting at all. 2 years of dev time and nothing. That’s nuts.

This game looks cool, but “Revengeance” is probably the lamest subtitle I’ve ever heard from a company that’s actually trying. I pray that’s just a working title.

So I finally checked out the new Rising and all I can say is that I’m willing to give it a shot, especially since I love me some hack ‘n’ slash games. The only thing I’ll miss is the MGS4 feel it used to have based on the 2010 video(s) and the old game logo, assuming they’re using that Terminator-esque “logo” which doesn’t look as clean to me in my opinion.

Man the haters are hatin’. Haha. Makes me laugh. I’m not really sure how you can make a “hack n slash stealth game”. That just doesn’t sound right. If KP couldn’t make it work, it’s doubtful anyone really could have. Tenchu is a good example to look at, but you were just a ninja and not a super human cyborg with a high-frequency sword that could cut through steel.

I think the original game had conflicting directions. On one side, they probably wanted to keep the stealth mechanics… but on the same side, make the player seem powerful by making Raiden a powerful killing machine. Why the hell does a super human cyborg ninja need to sneak around, especially in MGS4 where Raiden was easily able to take down multitudes of grunts and metal gears compared to Snake? Furthermore, why wouldn’t he have stealth camo like Gray Fox did? How to properly combine the stealth gameplay and powerful hack n slash mechanic seemed to prove extremely difficult, as it’s very likely that the game was cancelled between 2010 and 2011.

Honestly, it’s for the better.

However, I just really want Zone of the Enders 3 above anything else. :frowning:

Seeing the original trailer, it seems just like Revenegance but a lot slower. The original is like standard Metal Gear speed but it doesn’t say Lightning Bolt Action. I still hope I can cut down the environment and such.

Less clusterfucky than Bayonetta…I think you mean *shittier *and clunkier than Bayopnetta.

I wouldn’t mention this game in the same breath with Itagaki’s NG games or DMC1 or 3…hell even 4. This looks like Death By Degrees compared to Ninja Gaiden Black and NGII in terms of combat. It just looks flat to me, it’s just not that exciting to see in motion. Like Platinum has some ideas, but they aren’t going to waste them on this game.
I’d much rather see Platinum create something original…

Classic you tube comment from me.

OMFGGGGGG EPIC!!!

So i was watching this trailer and my mom walked in on me and said Im grounding you i’d rather you watch porn because that trailer MGR trailer is too graphic!!! and we dont allow those vids to be played in this house young man.

This is a day one cop for me, it was back with the old style but with plat games on deck please!!! i still play bayonetta and vanquish. SO I know i don’t have to make Raiden in dynasty warriors anymore lol I load this up and go to work!!!

Let him have his fun.

That was still the youtube comment up until the last sentence chunk.

Well SF-Zero2 it can’t be TOO over the top. This isn’t Capcom’s SCREAMING GOD game or Bayonetta. I’m personally hoping for ‘tactical’ hack and slash. And actually (I’m sorry I haven’t played MGS4) there can still be stealth elements and I don’t mean scripted areas either. You can always divert attention to a group of bad guys to kill them somewhere off the main path. I mean if Batman Arkham can work as a stealth and brawler simultaneously there’s no reason why a Metal Gear Ray tossing MGRevengence can’t do it either.

Either way! This is the first we’ve seen of this new game and there is A LOT of explaining to do along with showing some previews for the press next year. At worse this game will score in the 7s and 8s. I don’t see Platinum and KP letting it dip any lower than that.
