I forgot some games had art in the manual. Even if it was grayscale, I appreciated it.
How do you open those blue crates?
Max’s review of MGR:R was pretty good. I’m kind of surprised by the style change (been a while since I’ve seen his videos). What’s up with the JonTron style randomness? lol.
Is there a move cancel command? Like if I’m in the middle of twirling my Pole-Arm and some shit’s comin’ at me full speed, is my only option Defensive Offense?

Serious question for those you that played and finished it

[details=Spoiler]
Did you rike it?
[/details]

Respectfully, It’s the best Ninja Gaiden clone I’ve ever played. It’s a good start if they decide to make Rising a franchise, but aside from the flash there’s honestly nothing I haven’t seen in one form or another outta the various versions of current gen Gaidens. Parry is super lenient variation of the Intercept from NG Hurricane pack, Attack/Offense is a variation of NG2’s Furious Wind but without having to block first. It’s a fine game, and I’d recommend it to Hardcore Action fans, but it has far more in common with Ninja Gaiden 3 than anyone will ever care to admit, it’s just much more well thought out with more entertaining quick time events. I thought the NG influence was pretty heavy and apparent myself, even down to the enemy variety. Soldiers, doggy-like creatures, big enemies that sometimes get in the way of the combat when they’re filling the screen, muscle bound hulk dudes that love to grab you…You could swap the majority of the stages out for NG ones and be hard pressed to tell the difference.

It’s vastly too short in my opinion. I understand the “I can beat DMC1 or DMC3 in 2 hours too” mentality, but skip the cutscenes and you wind up with a game that’s about 1/3 the length of NGB or NG2. Part of it was the obligatory overly long MGS cutscenes slowing the down the momentum, but I didn’t really feel the game was letting me cut loose until the 4th stage, and with how short stage 5 wound up, the game has the problem of just ending right when things are getting really interesting. It’s over the top, looks great, plays great, but it lacks the long-haul-I-finally-did-it level of satisfaction that Black or NG2 had. It leaves you wanting more, which is a good and bad thing with the game’s length as is. The Metal Gear world and style works brilliantly for an action game though.

It’s a very good game, and Platinum does what it what does better than anyone: They understand the genre expectations and respectfully embrace and expand on what has worked before, rather than showing contempt for it(sup Ninja Theory). In that respect, the game is spectacular.
Konami should tap them for a sequel immediately so Platinum is involved from day 1 to finish, make MGR2 the same type of leap that you had from Zone of the Enders to Zone of the Enders 2. Off to great start already.

fighting mistral made me wet, I dont want this game to end
I didn’t feel that the game had any overly long cut scenes except for the cinematics between the Metal Gear boss fight and the last boss. I mean, the game took me roughly eight hours on first play through (without cut scenes), which is about on par with similar action games. That’s a good length for an action game as a first play through. Of course subsequent play throughs will be a lot shorter, but that comes from knowing what to expect and getting a better grasp of the game’s mechanics.
I bet you didn’t listen to all the codec conversations, it’s basically the only reason I’m still on my 1st playthrough lol.

They are AS long as any other MGS game but honestly more interesting.

I haven’t beaten the game yet but I agree with AlphaZero when it comes to MGR being similar to NG. It’s to be expected since they are both ninjas! Though the fact you can cut almost anything makes me wonder if NG will take this feature in the future especially with next gen looming. I’ll give my full thoughts once I beat the game but, Revengeance difficulty will ultimately be a true test of how this game ultimately stacks up with others in the genre.

The bosses kill most of the bosses in NG from a creativity standpoint so…

@AlphaZero

The game is getting story related DLC so there is no need for a sequel as of right now anyway. The epicness has just begun to unfold.
When I see MGR2 nextgen I don’t think I’ll be able to handle it…
I talked to this guy who is a huge Ninja Gaiden and God Hand fan. He thinks Rising is pure shit. He said he died several times in the DEMO and was constantly blind sided by enemies. Says Rising has a camera angle worse than Ninja Gaiden.

I have a hard time believing that. I had to try to die to see if the nanopaste auto-activated, because the demo didn’t have an UI element for it. You don’t beat Ninja Gaiden and die to the puny ass enemies they send against you in the demo, it’s simply not possible.

Someone on Neogaf got the lighting god S-rank Revengeance achievement. I wonder how they did it, because it would be hard even with broken stuff like wigs.
