What do you expect, most those guys are probably 3S or SF4 players lol. Jk Idk, some people are just turned off by ccs.
We always play the latest and greatest, except with SFA.
With MvC we play MvC2, with CvS we play CvS2, with SF3 we play 3S, and same with ST/VSav/etc.
What’s interesting about SFA is that SFA3 didn’t necessarily make SFA2 obsolete. There’s reasons for that, technically and socially. And so I wonder if SF3 and SF4 ever really made SFA obsolete… I have to think that they did not.
Though, what I’m interested in seeing is what Capcom does with SF4 in the future. If we will all focus on the sequels to SF4 like we did with every other Capcom series title (imagine SF4-part-2).
And, I am interested to see what all the struggling games can do, if they can go so far as to be featured at Evo/SBO and finally get the attention they deserve.
Kinda a late reply to this, but I figured I’ll go ahead and do it anyway for other people that read this. Reversal ACing doesn’t change your gameplay much at all. All you’re doing is a poke that can be cancelled into a special move (usually a DP type move, but a super works as well) extremely late. The move won’t come out if they don’t AC, if that was the case you continue pressure/mixups like normal. It’s also not hard to build at least a level 1 kinda quick, as most characters can kara something into a move for a lot of meter. (kara c.rh xx DP as a shoto gives a level 1 in about 4 reps)
As for the CC damages, there’s really only a couple characters in the game that can do 50% at level 1 and 80%+ at level 3. Some, like Rolento, aren’t even in both categories (level 1 does like 30%.)
What’s with the thread’s rating? I find this to be a good discussion, with points that I have thought of for a long time. Doesn’t let me rate, either, says I did already.
I personally think that A2, apart from a few bad decisions, is one of the best SF games ever, and definitely my favorite. It’s not played these days much outside of GGPO, not only because of the arcade scene/port issues aforementioned, but also because there are just newer games and people tend to gravitate towards whatever’s new and popular. If people want to play an old school SF, they’ll usually pick ST (and now there’s HDR). Marvel is completely different so it’s no surprise that the last iteration is still played.
But if you look at many other things (not just games), you will often find some quality that goes underlooked or underappreciated. I don’t think something’s worth is determined by its popularity. Good things can often become popular and stand the test of time (a lot of Nintendo franchises, Disney, Michael Jackson, etc.), but then there are some obscure things that are good too and don’t get to shine like Sparkster on SNES, and Mac OS X (this one is slowly changing, though).
Since I recently got a stick I was thinking of getting back into A2 on GGPO (have been playing the game lately), but all I see are Brazilians with high pings. Where did everyone else go, ditched the game?
im always there just hit me up on aim
It just really depends on the time of day, sometimes it’ll be a Brazilian swarm or other times there won’t be one in sight and it’s all Americans. I myself am usually on late evening to early morning so if you’ve ever up at that hour we can try to play.
Why do the Brazilians love A2 so much? Serious question, i heard the Chinese and Koreans love KOF98, ST is pretty diverce, but hands down the Brazilians love A2. Shame i can’t play then at playable levels.
I don’t know much about the Alpha games in high level play, but they are celebrated for having very fun/interesting footsies.
For some reason, A3’s implementation of the Counter Hit always felt really neat to me.
Only a few of them are good, best bet is playing USA and Japan anyway.
the game just came out there
oh
none of us on ggpo are sure. i’ve tried asking, but all the responses i get follow the suit of “css = american american = very noob kkkkkkkkkkkkkkk \o/ \o/ \o/ brazl is best negociador = invicibel kkkkkkkkkkkkkkk”
A release of the PSP version to PSN, along with online battles, will lead to a resurgence. I personally loved A3 because of the amount of choices in the PSX version of how to play the game. Variety makes things awesome.
hated the contoller on the psp for alpha 3 max
