Megaupload shut down

Swizz Beats is the CEO of MegaUpload, I’m assuming he’s the one who put together the people for that video.

My mistake was that I embraced the media and gave them the stories they wanted. Let’s just put this into the category ‘young and stupid’. I was giving them a glimpse into my exclusive lifestyle. For this openness I was turned into the scapegoat when the German new economy bubble popped in 2000. I was convicted for insider trading (actually saving a company and over 120 jobs) and got a probation sentence because the judge and prosecutor offered a deal to my lawyers.
Their case was a joke. Since when is the person that saves a company, pays the company money in exchange for shares and buys additional shares (for the same price) on the open market an insider trader? I took the deal and moved on with my life instead of spending the next few years in court rooms defending my innocence. You can’t imagine the rape party the German media had with me.
The Wikipedia page about me is the best account of how long-lasting these effects still are today. Find me a Wikipedia profile of a person that is worse than mine and I will buy you dinner. For your information my criminal record has been cleared under Germany’s clean slate legislation. Officially I can say I am without convictions.

I think that have really underestimated how strong (If not stupid) Anonymous are. If SOPA passes the internet is going to just…Wow.

America were right to do what they did, that have jurisdiction (Although the amount is questionable) This just seems like America wants to put the internet in its vices like it’s done with half of the world so far, The internet is what keeps the world flowing now, it’s only right one country saw enough sense to try and grasp as much jurisdiction over the majority of the internet, Not to mention cross-continental bullshit like this.

its funny cause when i was looking for shit everytime i come on megaupload they’re shits always deleted for copyright infrigment. the gov sure did pick the wrong site to go and shut down. they’re not gonna be able to stop this shit just like they tried to stop drugs and alcohol and if i remember correctly when they banned alcohol crime rate went up.

This is a lot bigger than people are treating it as. The US just arrested non-US citizens in New Zealand for piracy.

And I’m sure this investigation and whatever had cost more than how much was “pirated”.

Also, You do realise PIPA and SOPA more or less take a dump on the codified American Constitution? Whilst America would never use a referendum, I just think this whole thing stinks. America is drawing first blood here.

Whilst not a breach of human rights, I’d like to know how it is possible for America to simply walk into New Zealand and arrest one of its citizens? Whilst NZ could of delegated legislature to the US Embassy, that just seems impractical.

Arstechnica has been pretty reliable when come to fact from what I’ve seen. It seem the DoJ could actually have a rather legit case against Megaupload (If this is all the truth of course), but, I also agree with the fact the DoJ just out and out having the NZ police ship them here so fast does seem rather off in my eyes.

[]MegaUpload was primarily hosted in Virginia by a web hosting provider called Carpathia Hosting. Carpathia leased more than 1000 servers with a total of 25 petabytes of storage to MegaUpload.
[]MegaUpload had its second big data center in the Netherlands, where web host Leaseweb rented and hosted close to 700 servers for the company.
[]MegaUpoad users paid more than $110 million to the company via PayPal.
[]The MegaUpload imperium employed more than 30 people in 9 different countries.
[]The FBI and foreign authorities seized close to 60 bank accounts as well as various PayPal accounts.
[]Authorities also seized around 30 cars and motorcycles, including a number of Mercedes-Benz cars with novelty license plates like “STONED”, “GUILTY” and “MAFIA.”
[]MegaUpload founder Kim Schmitz allegedly owns 68 percent of Megaupload as well as its image hosting site Megapix.com and the affiliate site Megaclick.com. He owns 100 percent of Megavideo.com, Megaporn.com and Megapay.com. He made $42 million in 2010.
[]Mathias Ortmann, a long-time collaborator with Schmitz who was arrested on Thursday as well, owns 25 percent of the Mega empire. He co-founded MegaUpload and has been serving as the company’s CTO. Ortmann made $5 million in 2010.

[]Other emails show how executives discussed cash rewards for uploaders who had provided specific DVDs and other copyrighted works.

[]A MegaUpload programmer who was charged as part of the indictment uploaded multiple DVDs to the site.
[]Some of the emails show that MegaUpload had an interesting policy on when to follow take-down requests. When asked by Warner to take down files, the site’s CTO wrote in an internal email: “We should comply with their request — we can afford to be cooperative at current growth levels.”

Yeah okay guys, I agree with the Gubment basically turning into cyberdyne, but yo I am reading the whole indictment right now and Megaupload is straight up rackateering.

You can’t have your entire business model be about profiting from copyright infringement and admit to it all over the place.

The money Laundering wasn’t the rewards program, it was the enormous transfers of cash from here to the Netherlands

Again fuck da police and all that stuff, but Megaupload ran it shit so bad it deserves all of this.
