hey… sorry if im intruding on ur tournament talk but i gotta ask, and this seems like the place…
i live in md and the arcades i usually visit r at annapolis mall, towson, and white marsh (although i used to go to eastpoint a lot)… now, this might b because ive been going to arcades at really strange times (like lunchtime on weekdays), but does any1 know if theres any competition for mvc2 at those places anymore? i myself am awful, but the comp sux worse, so i dont really have a way to improve… i used to b intimidated by the beastly mvc2 players at towson, but i figure id even go thru the beatdowns if i thought i could learn somethin, but the past few times ive gone, there hasnt been any1 playing… seems like every1s moving to other stuff like tekken, or sc2…
anywayz… if some1 could tell me thatd b great, and also other places where i can find some fighting games (preferably 2d)
Gametime was the only arcade in the area that had any competition. So since it was closed down, there has been no central location for competition. Now it’s all scattered around mostly on console. Keep an eye out for Koop’s Gatherings or Battle of Bmore. Also I’m looking for a room (meeting hall type of place) to rent out to hold a fairly large local tournament. If you or anyone know of any cheap spaces (like less than $100 for the day) let me know.
Well I have a life but would like to get this off before Evo (whenever that is) - So the next one has to be in July, Friday or Saturday night. There are a few weekends available, so I just need people to drop when they think woudl be the best
July 10th
July 17th
July 24th
I want to keep it before evo and try to get some real comp up there to warm up for Evo. The entire Apt is mine now so there is room, and I think the setup from the BoB 2 was good for room - especially since we had the “free” X-Box room. Any of those weekends should work for me - but I need to know within the next couple of days to garuntee that I’m not working. LEave a note.
-:bluu:
The 17th works for me, not those other weekends. Jee I wonder why you like those weekends instead of the one I chose. Could it be because your OFF.
anyone want to game this weekend? i’m pretty bored and got a place where ppl can chill at…it can be a “mini-gathering” just let me know how many ppl want to come. just hit me up on aim @ alexasianboypei or just post. k ttyl
Yo, I heard about the “Frody vs. Alex” money match for $10. I gotta’ see this shit.
Oh, and I’m willing to play money games against anyone at Johan’s for any amount… excluding Isaac. I could play Isaac for dollar matches… I’m not going any higher though… 'cause he’s mad beast.
But anyway, gotta’ play Marvel, prep up for Evo… I <3 MD.
My train leaves Charleston tomorrow morning at 5:07am, and I’m supposed to arrive at Union Station in DC around 2:45pm.
Chances are the train will be late, as it always is. This being a holiday season, I don’t expect anything different.
My cell phone is broken, and turned off, but the house # is (301) 371-0170.
Khang/Isaac/Eric/Johan/etc: I don’t have ya’lls numbers with me, I couldn’t find them in the hurricane known as my apartment. Just give my place a ring and leave a message with the digits.
So, we gonna game Saturday/Sunday night? I’m bringing my stick and some lube to give it to Khang nice and gentle. I brought some extra for Eric if he wanted to get the other end
okay guys… I still need input on whether or not I should rent out the library. I think it’s still available (aug 14th). I wanted to throw around the idea of a free tournament. Meaning no entry fee, and the winners get nothing but a handshake and a smile (only if they’re lucky) That would fix the money issue. You all could have money matches but you would have to keep score until you left the library to exchange money. I would however need a few donations to cover the cost. Also, I don’t want to have this if only 10 people are going to show up. …and keep in mind it’s only 10am-5pm… and I know you people won’t show until 12.
also… ask around if anyone has any connections with hotels, fire stations, community centers, etc in which we can rent out a meeting hall for cheap for a day. Cheap = less than $125. Some fucking hotels are asking for 500$ just for 4 hours. Oh, and don’t laugh too hard at the fire stations idea… they usually have huge halls…
sparatik: Just a little heads up on getting a tourney venue, I rented a… decently sized conference room at a Holiday Inn here and it ran me $225. That was after a LOT of haggling, and even then it was from 12pm-10pm (also had to haggle the extra 2 hours). We ended up not getting hounded too bad when we ran late because nobody else was getting the room that night, but we got a good bit of dirty looks. That was here in Charleston, SC, so it’s probably more expensive up there.
If there’s a military base with a community center off base, you can usually get one of those for free. Don’t forget about shriner’s halls and lodges and such.
Eric: Got your #. I’m gonna give you, Johan, and Isaac a ring tomorrow as soon as I get into Frederick and find out what kind of plans I’m looking at.
Sweet… thanks for the info. I’ve tried American Legion’s… but I forgot about all those random lodges and shriner places. I’ll also call all the Holiday Inns in the area and see what they’re asking. I know all these bastards can’t be renting out those halls for that much money($500+ when I called)… and I didn’t know that it was possible to haggle. good shit, thanks again. …now if only the LOCAL people would help me out
