overall review of final season of final show of marvel netflix:
pretty good. they didnt really have an evil villain like killgrave, instead it was multiple villains. trish being the final boss was kind of silly. so she killed some actually bad guys. punisher would’ve snapped their necks after ripping off their balls without blinking an eye. the only bad thing trish did was beatup a non evil guy who hogarth just claimed was evil. he wasn’t. trish didnt do her due diligence.
anyway without a final boss villain as compelling and charismatic as killgrave it felt like marvel netflix went out with a whimper
enjoyable but i’m really sad there will never be a defenders season 2. i rewatched season 1 of defenders and just really enjoyed all the interactions between the various characters, and danny getting beat up lol
no that’s bs as well. i never understand that part of season 2. jessicas mom is a horrific monster killer who murdered multiple innocents like whizzer. punisher would’ve filled her up with lead without blinking an eye
jessica was dumb for even supporting her mom in the first place. trish once again was the hero taking out the trash
You are leaving out a lot. Jessica had captured her mom, she was locked up. Trish, because she wanted powers, leaked the location of the doctor that cared for her mother. This broke the terms that Jessica’s mom agreed to stay incarcerated under. Her mother freaks, more people die, but Trish gets to try and get powers. Then, after Jessica talks her mom down again, Trish shows up and shoots her in the head. Jessica’s mom is dead because Trish wanted powers. That isn’t even getting into what she did to Malcolm.
Trish is nothing like the Punisher. Frank knows he’s a monster and doesn’t pretend otherwise. Trish is self-righteous and selfish and believes that all the horrible things she committed is justified because she’s doing “the right thing”.
wait what did trish do to malcom? i dont even remember. i remember they banged and she pump and dumped him after
jessica “captured” her mom but really her mom “captured” jessica, who was too mentally weak to take the criminal scum back to jail. trish did what jessica was unable to
ok before i type my response, i want to remind everyone to search my post history to see how anti SJW i am and my hatred of feminazis
but i think a lot of the blowback against trish is just cause shes a woman. the audience cheers every time the punisher murders obviously bad people and its cool. he’s a badass! but now a woman who is on a mission of vengeance and she’s a self righteous bitch. with the exception of the guy she beat up (but didnt kill) because hogarth lied, all the dudes she attacked deserved it.
the only bad thing trish did was try to kill jessica at the very end, which i thought was out of character. that to me made her the villain but everything before that? i did not sympathize with any of her victims, she was killing evil people, as confirmed by the guy who could cast detect alignment
Hogarth is more morally reprehensible than Trish but I can respect her character because she knows and she is and owns it. Trish in the other hand pretends to do things for the greater good. Everything she did in season two and three were done for her own ego. Her envy of Jessica is what drives her to fuck over everyone.
She took advantage of Malcolm’s attraction for her so she can get the info she needed to track the doctor that gave Jessica her powers. Once she found his safehouse she pistol whipped Malcolm, put him in the truck of her car and shot at him when he tried to stop her.
She relapse on her drug addiction because Simpsons inhaler gave her a temporary strength boost. She knew what it was doing to her but she kept it at since it gave powers. She almost made Malcolm relapse when she forced it on him.
Purple Man was a phenomenal villain. The script and directors did an outstanding job of twisting Tenants natural charm and charisma into something incredibly dark.
Him and Cotton Mouth were the MVP’s of the Netflix Marvel Universe.
True. I feel like Kingpin & Black Mariah deserve a nod too. They were brilliant. I’d include Bushmaster but he was more anti-hero after a certain point
I think what made Tennant a great villain is the fact it played on the charm he built with audiences as Dr. Who. In a 4th wall kinda way it fucks with you
Jessica’s mom was already in jail. Trish’s selfish ass was the reason she went back on the run. Jessica’s mom agreed to stay locked up if the doctor went free. He cared for her and nursed her back to health. Trish wanted powers. She pretended like she wanted to bring him to justice but she just wanted him to try and give her powers. Malcolm even got wise and called Trish on her bullshit. Jessica arranged to get the doctor a new identity and out of the country. Everything was golden, the doctor was scot free until Trish fucked it up. Trish leaked the doctors location.
most of this reply is also to darc_requiem too, thanks for refreshing my memory on the shitty things trish did in season 2
ok im glad we agree on the hogarth thing she was an awful human being in season 3, i think they went against her character development when she just ruined an entire family for no reason. hogarths love interest already said she was in an open relationship and it was fine, but hogarth still went ahead and told malcom to release the damning info. then to top it off she defended a serial killer.
thanks for the recap i had forgotten how bad trish was in season 2, ill agree with you there she was a bad person, but not evil. she definitely did malcom dirty. but i agree with her decision to kill JJ’s mother.
in season 3, her own mother is brutally murdered so it makes sense she would go on a scumbag killing spree. and actually, her first victim which was a dirty cop she didn’t want to kill, it was an accident. if you recall she was trying to get a confession recording and accidentally killed him. and thats when things spiralled out of control. she attacked the second guy to let JJ go free, but accidentally killed him because she could only see the evil serial killer’s face. she was distraught over her moms death and went into berserker rage. then the third kill was the serial killer who just killed her mom. dude anyone would kill their mom’s murderer.
in season 3 really trish did two bad things, the first was try to kill JJ at the end which i think was out of character. and the second was when she beat up some guy that hogarth lied about and said was evil.
other than that the first murder was an accident, the second one was due to her entering berserker rage, and the third was 100% justified. i think she’s a more nuanced character than most people are saying, and shes getting way more criticism cause she’s a woman. and again, im anti sjw, so im not parroting some sjw talking point here.
contrast to the punisher. he knows he’s not a saint but he does act according to some moral code. and he absolutely thinks he’s better than the scumbags he’s killing. even then though, he’s killed some people who were just doing their job. like all the soldiers he killed weren’t necessarily crooked in season 1 (the one protecting the CIA guy and also doing the raid on the compound at the end). they wouldn’t have known the punisher was a bad guy. but he’s a badass guy so he’s gonna be cheered
TLDR: Trish story arc is about how being a do gooder/self righteous person can actually result in shittiness. it is a criticism of vigilante heroes and a reminder why due process exists in the country. trish is a flawed character, but the hate she gets is disproportionate to say that of the punisher, who is also a flawed character, cause shes a woman.
We are never going to agree about Trish. Anyone that betrays family is worthy of great derision. Like Hogarth, Trish ultimately just cares about what she wants to hell with the consequences. At least with Hogarth, you know you are dealing with a snake. Trish epitomizes a certain Ojays song. She smiles in Jessica’s face, all while trying take her place. She willingly does terrible things of her own volition and justifies it by saying “she’s right.”
The issue is that both people do shitty things out of a bout of selfishness, but Frank acknowledges that fact about himself. At no point does Trish ever acknowledge anything she’s doing is wrong, and in fact EVERYONE else is in the wrong.
This “Trish only gets hated because she’s a woman” is bullshit. There are plenty of women in both the MCU and strictly the Netflix shows that cover every area of the spectrum. Why is it that Trish is so special that she’s being unfairly prosecuted?
